Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 95 - 46: A Lineage-Ending Kick (Part 2)
The house had been in turmoil these past few days. Forget about recovering—he’d even gotten himself slashed. ’It serves him right. He could have avoided it, but he just had to take the blow with his back. The self-injury ploy might feel good in the moment, but he’s the one who has to suffer the consequences later.’
Qin Mei strongly disapproved of using one’s own body to block a sharp blade. If it were her, she’d rather be the one injuring someone else than the one getting injured.
In fact, the biggest problem was that he had refused to listen to advice at Modu Hospital, insisting on being discharged to return to Shijiu City. If he had just listened, stayed in the hospital for a few more days, and then rested at home, he could have been back to work like normal by now.
You’re the one who suffers when you don’t listen to the doctor’s advice.
Forget Jie Jingchen—even she, a person who never went out of her way to make enemies, had already developed a deep-seated grudge against her sister-in-law, Xu Chunyan, after only a few days with the Jie family.
"You know how to build a fire?" Jie Jingchen asked doubtfully.
Qin Mei rubbed her nose. "You can help me start it."
Jie Jingchen was speechless.
"Mom! Chunwang!" Xu Chunyan snapped to her senses, glanced at Xu Chunwang writhing on the ground in pain, and decisively ran to her mother. "Mom, are you all right?"
Liu Guihua was sprawled on the ground, unable to get up. Xu Chunyan couldn’t possibly lift her without Jie Jingwei’s help. Not that Liu Guihua wanted to get up; she planned on lying there and playing dead to extort even more money from Qiao Yanqiu. But when she thought of her son, Liu Guihua felt like she could just die.
Xu Chunwang was the Xu Family’s only son. If Qiao Yanqiu had really... rendered him unable to have children with that kick, the Xu family line would end.
"Don’t worry about me. Hurry and check on your brother," Liu Guihua said, pushing at Xu Chunyan.
"Jing Er, hurry and take my brother to the hospital!" Xu Chunyan said to Jie Jingwei.
Jie Jingwei hesitated, looking to his father. When he saw his father’s gaze fall on Qiao Yanqiu, Jie Jingwei steeled his resolve and made his own decision. On one side were his father and Aunt Qiao; on the other were his mother-in-law, his brother-in-law, his wife, and his son.
"Dad, let me borrow the car." Jie Jingwei still chose to take his brother-in-law to the hospital. His brother-in-law was the hope of the Xu Family; if he was truly ruined, their family line would end, his wife would surely raise hell with him, and there would be no peace from his in-laws. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Mr. Xie was caught in a dilemma, torn between his son and his wife. "You know how to drive?"
"Have Xiao Wang drive." Jie Jingwei didn’t know how to drive.
"Xiao Wang went to visit his relatives in the countryside," Mr. Xie said.
The corner of Jie Jingwei’s mouth twitched. He knew full well his father was just unwilling to lend him the car. Jing Wu knew how to drive, but under the current circumstances, it was unrealistic to ask Jing Wu to take his brother-in-law to the hospital.
Jie Jingwei called over two neighbors he was friendly with, and together with Xu Chunyan, they took his mother-in-law and brother-in-law to the hospital.
It was just one scandal after another for the Jie Family. Mr. Xie felt powerless to salvage the situation.
"Darling, you must be tired after all this commotion. Let’s go back to our room and rest," Mr. Xie said, pulling on Mrs. Xie’s arm to curry favor.
Mrs. Xie shot him a glare and ignored him, walking over to Qin Mei instead. She took her hand and asked gently, "Are you all right?"
"I’m fine." Qin Mei shook her head. ’That powerful kick... I’m in complete awe. Who would have thought that my gentle, elegant mother-in-law could be so ruthless when she’s truly angry? She showed absolutely no mercy.’
’Her mother-in-law’s line in the sand was her children. The power of a mother’s love was on full display.’
’If I want a harmonious relationship with my mother-in-law, I can’t be fighting with her son,’ Qin Mei decided on the spot. ’As long as Jie Jingchen doesn’t mess with me, I can bully anyone else, but not him.’
"That’s good to hear." Mrs. Xie patted the back of Qin Mei’s hand, then her gaze fell on Jie Jingchen, who stood nearby. Her face instantly clouded with worry, and she couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh. "Aih!"
"Mom," Jie Jingchen said, his tone one of resignation.
"Jing Chen, you can’t force things in life." Mrs. Xie gave Jie Jingchen a meaningful look, released Qin Mei’s hand, and headed back to her room, shaking her head in dismay.
Jie Jingchen’s face darkened. Qin Mei struggled to suppress a laugh. ’Not only did my words completely screw over Xu Chunwang, but they also planted a seed of doubt in my mother-in-law’s mind.’
Mr. Xie hurried after Mrs. Xie, giving her shoulders a rub and patting her back.
"So, Fourth Sister-in-law, who won and who lost?" Jie Jingjue sidled up to Qin Mei. "Mom didn’t give Liu Guihua any money, and you couldn’t make her cough any up either."
"I won, of course," Qin Mei said, holding her head high. ’Plans just can’t keep up with reality. My original idea was to reset Xu Chunwang’s jaw and use the opportunity to squeeze some money out of Liu Guihua. If Liu Guihua couldn’t pay, Xu Chunyan would have been fine too. I calculated everything, but the one thing I didn’t account for was my mother-in-law delivering a potential dynasty-ending kick to Xu Chunwang.’
Compared to that, a dislocated jaw was just child’s play.
"But Liu Guihua didn’t give you any money," Jie Jingjue argued, unconvinced.
"She’ll be giving money to the hospital," Qin Mei said with the smile of a sly fox.
"Medical bills count?" Jie Jingjue pressed, not ready to give up.
"Of course they count." Qin Mei laid it all out for Jie Jingjue, making him accept his defeat. "Our bet was this: if Mom gave Liu Guihua money, you win, and I’d give you the same amount. If I made Liu Guihua cough up money, I win, and you’d have to give me whatever she paid. Right?"
