Chapter 135: Chapter 134: Celebration

"You’ve been busy all day, eldest son, take a rest and head home quickly. You and your wife have to go to work tomorrow," the old lady ignored her daughter-in-law and spoke to her son.

Their voices were not loud, but Han Yi and Lin Wan, eating inside, heard them clearly.

Han Yi was used to this, but it was somewhat embarrassing for his newlywed wife to hear. "In the future when I’m not home, just keep your distance from Great Aunt," Han Yi softly reminded Lin Wan, worried she might suffer later.

"Hmm," Lin Wan had suffered quite a bit from this Great Aunt in her previous life, who often took things from Grandma.

After Great Aunt’s family left, only Han Yi, Lin Wan, and Grandma were left at home. Lin Wan followed Han Yi to tidy things up.

In fact, there wasn’t much to tidy up.

Having been busy all day without a nap, Grandma was getting too tired due to her age. Lin Wan helped her go to rest.

Besides a few benches yet to be returned, everything in the courtyard was cleaned up. Han Yi urged Lin Wan to go inside and rest for a while.

Lin Wan, having been busy since midnight, was indeed a bit tired.

Han Yi went out to return the tables and chairs, while Lin Wan picked up a basin of water, closed the door, and gave her body a simple wash. Returning to the new room, she lay down but was painfully poked by something hard underneath.

Upon lifting the quilt, she found peanuts and walnuts.

This made it impossible to sleep. Lin Wan opened a box in the room and put away the extra quilts not needed now. She kept one light quilt to cover herself.

After Lin Wan arranged the quilts on the bed, Han Yi had also tidied up the tables and chairs.

Upon entering, he saw Lin Wan bent over, picking up things on the bed.

Han Yi knew that newlyweds have these items placed on their bed for good luck. Aunt Jin and his second aunt helped place them last night while he was present.

The house suddenly became quiet, leaving only the two of them feeling idle, inevitably letting their thoughts wander. Han Yi was momentarily at a loss, not knowing what to say, so he simply turned and went to the shop.

Lin Wan, after tidying up the bed, organized the tea mugs, washbasins, pillow towels, and hot water bottles sent by relatives and friends. In this era, most people couldn’t bear to spend money, so they gave items. Thankfully, she was sensible and didn’t let Han Yi buy these bits when arranging her dowry.

Looking at the clock, it was already past five. In the summer, it gets dark late, making it too early for dinner. Not seeing Han Yi return, Lin Wan simply sat on the bed to rest for a while. Unexpectedly, she fell asleep shortly after lying down.

When Han Yi entered, he saw Lin Wan sleeping peacefully, eyes closed, with her long eyelashes resting quietly, and the corners of her mouth slightly upturned, probably having a sweet dream.

Han Yi looked at the time and thought it was time to make dinner. He originally intended to ask Lin Wan what she wanted to eat, but was surprised to find her asleep.

Seeing her sleeping soundly, he didn’t dare to wake her. He helped by adjusting the ventilation fan down by a notch and quietly closed the door before heading to the kitchen.

Han Yi had started learning to cook from the age of ten. Over the years, every time he returned home, he handled the cooking and laundry. While the taste wasn’t quite as good as his mother-in-law’s, it wasn’t bad either.

When Lin Wan and Grandma got up, Han Yi had already prepared a simple meal. Cooking during the big summer was truly a torment, even though they weren’t using firewood, coal was still very hot.

Most of the meat dishes brought back at noon were taken by Great Aunt, leaving only some cold dishes at home.

Han Yi made some corn grits and heated a few buns. The family ate a simple meal, and Lin Wan didn’t let Han Yi do the dishes, choosing to wash the utensils herself.
