Chapter 25: REVENGE SHOULD BE SERVED AS A DISH II

Caspian’s eyes widened at the sight of Sasha brandishing a knife. "What the hell is going on here?" he barked as he stepped between the two women.

At the sight of Caspian, Sasha’s face was ashen. She didn’t expect him to walk in like this. Her hands trembled and she immediately dropped the knife, running to him. "B brother Caspian, i it’s Ava," Sasha stammered with a trembling voice. Her hands trembled too. "She was talking violently to me like she wanted to hurt me. I only picked up the knife to protect myself," she lied unhesitatingly.

Ava almost clapped at the drama that unfolded in front of her. This was the Sasha she knew, not the one she’d been dealing with all this while.

Caspian’s jaw tightened as Sasha clung to his arm, pushing her trembling body behind him for protection. He had never seen his little sister that scared. As he stared at Ava who stood there unfazed, crossing her arms like she had done nothing wrong, he could feel a certain madness crawl up his bones.

All Ava had done since she got to their home was cause trouble for his little sister. She was so jealous of Sasha that she’d tried so many times to paint her black. First at their grandfather’s party, even now. If he didn’t know his little sister too well, he would’ve misunderstood the whole situation.

He pushed Ava’s shoulder, forcing her to take some steps back away from them. "What did you say to Sasha, Ava?!" He demanded. "Why are you trying to hurt her in her own home?!" He barked further.

Ava shrugged. "Hey!" She raised her voice, suddenly feeling offended by everything. "Are you blind or are you plain stupid?" Her question caught Caspian off guard. He stared at her speechlessly, and so did Sasha who stood behind him. "Why would I hurt Sasha? Am I the one holding a knife?!"

Caspian’s lips twitched in annoyance at Ava’s boldness. "Sasha would never point a knife at you if she wasn’t threatened. What the hell did you say to her, you peasant?!"

"Why don’t you ask her? It’s not like you’d believe anything I say," Ava retorted.

Caspian gritted his teeth before turning to Sasha behind him. Holding her trembling shoulders, "What did she say, Sasha?" He asked softly.

Not knowing what to say, Sasha started weeping.

Ava scoffed. "You better stop crying and explain to Caspian before he goes through the security cameras in the kitchen."

Sasha’s sobs faltered and her face grew pale. Her hair whipped to her face as she turned to the camera behind her with dread. Ava was never supposed to know about the camera, because the cameras installed in the house were as small as dots. She only just got to the mansion a few days ago and hadn’t even been given a tour of the house because of the chaos that had been happening since she came. So, how the hell did she find out about it?

"Instead of blaming me mindlessly, why don’t you check the footage to see who wanted to hurt whom?" Ava said before walking out of the kitchen.

Caspian watched her leave with a clenched jaw, but Ava hummed happily as she thought of the punishment that awaited them all.

.

At exactly 7 PM, every member of the household gathered in the dining room for dinner. The dishes prepared by Sasha were served, and to scorn Ava, all her family already rained praises on Sasha for the beautiful meal served without even having a taste of it.

Ava could barely hold in her smile as the maids poured the wines into everybody’s cups, but when they were about to serve William, she stopped the girl. "Grandfather will drink water," she said softly.

William was stunned, but she smiled softly at him. "You shouldn’t drink wine this late, Grandfather," Ava said with a saccharine sweetness to stop her grandfather from partaking in her little revenge. She knew the old man’s love for wines. She also knew he started his dinner by taking a sip of wine before eating his meal. "It’s not good for your health at your age."

Matilda raised an eyebrow. "And since when did you become a doctor, Ava?"

Ava didn’t flinch. "I’m just looking out for Grandfather," she replied smoothly, "He deserves to live a long, peaceful life, don’t you think, mother?"

William chuckled. "I will take water this evening if my granddaughter wants me to."

Ava smiled.

Sitting opposite Ava, Sasha frowned, but she quickly brightened up her face, feeling the need to change the topic on the table. She hated the attention on Ava. "I put in a lot of effort for dinner this evening," she started slowly, earning everyone’s attention. "I made it so we can all reconcile with one another. I don’t want us to fight anymore." She turned to Ava. "And Ava, please try not to get into trouble anymore, so you’ll not worry everyone."

Ava fought the urge to roll her eyes.

"Don’t waste your time trying to advise someone who doesn’t need it, Sasha," Matilda said before turning to Ava. "And you, you’re going to take a pregnancy test in two weeks. It’s one thing accepting you back into our lives, but I will never raise a bastard."

Everyone had somehow expected a reaction from Ava, but she didn’t give any. "Yes, mum. I didn’t do anything wrong, but I’ll do just like you’ve said," she said quietly though she fumed inwardly.

"Can we not dwell on the past?" Gaulin said softly. "Let’s just eat."

All of Ava’s family, except Whitlock, who took a sip of water, began eating. Their initial bites stirred nothing, but then, Jerome’s fork clattered to his plate, along with the rest of her family.

"What the hell-" he choked, reaching for the glass of wine, only to cough even harder after taking a sip.

Matilda screamed, fanning her tongue with both her hands from the excessive pepper. She’d taken the most portion into her mouth. She never liked spicy food to begin with. She felt like her tongue was on fire.

Caspian, Noah, and Gaulin were already on the floor, coughing their eyeballs out, while Sasha cried painfully.

Seeing everybody’s reaction, William was rendered speechless, while Ava leaned into her chair with a smile on her face. This was only the beginning, she thought to herself. The next time they laid their hands on her, she was going to do something worse.
