REBORN: MEET MY BROTHERS-Chapter 36: A PACKAGE
"Why are you so excited about the Quinn’s heir, Sasha?" Jerome asked, smiling as he leaned back in his chair. His little sister had never shown this much interest in anyone before, and it amused him.
Sasha smiled shyly as she glanced at him. In truth, since a man as hot as Maximus had announced he was engaged to Ava, she’d felt inferior to her. Maximus was undeniably handsome, and even if she was positive he wasn’t wealthy, she hated the way he carried himself and treated Ava.
But now, things were looking up. An invitation came in from the wealthiest family in Lebron City for the welcoming party of the returned heir. Her heart raced with excitement.
The Quinn’s heir had been away for years. No one knew about him, not even his face. The only thing they knew about him was that he was a bastard billionaire and the only heir of his family’s empire.
But somehow, fate has brought him back to her. If she were to gain his attention from the party, which she was positive will happen, and get him to take an interest in her, she would be engaged to a top shot like him. She could already picture it.
"I’m just excited about the party, that’s all," she said sweetly, brushing her hair back. Jerome raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t push further.
Matilda that sat beside Sasha smiled. She could read her mind, and she’d never been more proud of her daughter. Sasha was finally seeing the bigger picture without her intervention, but she was going to help her get his attention at the party.
"I heard he’s been engaged for a while now." Caspian’s words made both Sasha and Matilda’s smile fade.
Even Ava that stood at the sidelines froze as well.
"What are you talking about?" Sasha hurriedly asked.
"Didn’t you know?"
"No one has seen his fiancee though. But there are whispers that she’s royalty," Noah chimed in. "Of course, that could just be rumors."
"Who knows..." Capian continued, "...he may finally introduce her at this party."
"Nonsense!" Matilda jeered. "Being engaged may also be a rumor. You know how people like to speculate about all these rich, potential heirs. This whole thing about having a fiancee may just be one of this."
"Mother is right," Sasha agreed, like saying this loud would magically change his fate. "If the whole fiancee thing is real, then there would be pictures of her, even if it’s just blur ones."
"We just have to wait and find out," Gaulin finally said, ending the conversation.
.
.
The saturday morning was just like any other day. The only difference was that Evelyn’s party was this evening and Sasha would not stop talking about it, even while they had breakfast. Honestly, Ava was drained from the whole hype.
When she found out from her family that Maximus had a fiancee who was royalty, she had refused to believe it, but she started having doubts and decided to do her research.
At first, she found nothing about him, not even any news about his family members, but then she saw a blog that was created to expose celebrities darkest secrets, and that was where she found it. Her excitement about the party had died down. All she could feel was bitterness.
Her family had been right all along. The only reason Maximus had approached her was because he wanted something from the Whitlocks.
Deep down, she’d suspected this from the start, but his unnecessary niceness had blinded her. She’d let herself believe there might have been something genuine about him, and now she felt utterly foolish.
Ava sighed softly, wanting so badly to hit her head against a wall. How can she be so naive again? After everything she went through in her past life, she’d sworn to be smarter, stronger.
Yet here she was, barely even a month since she was given a second chance, and she was already making the same mistakes she did in her previous life. Allowing someone like Maximus try to use her like she was desperate for affection.
She sighed again as she wondered how desperate Maximus’s family was that his mother even approached her. It didn’t make any sense to her. The Quinn’s household was one of the wealthiest families in the city. If he was engaged to a royalty, what could he possibly want from her family that he put on a show and lied to both her and her family?
Ava flinched as she felt a hand on her shoulders. She turned sharply, only to find herself face-to-face with Wadsworth. "I apologize for startling you, Miss Ava. I’d been trying to get your attention for a while."
Ava exhaled sharply. Shaking her head as she tried to calm her fast heartbeat, "There’s no need to apologize, Wadsworth," Ava said. "I was just... distracted."
"Is there a problem? You seem troubled. Is there anything I can assist you with?" He asked concerned, but Ava shook her head.
"I’m fine," she said quietly. "You want something?"
"Ah, no..." Wadsworth was still concerned about her, but he decided it was best not to push any further. "I just wanted to ask if you received your package. It came in earlier."
"What package?" Ava asked confused.
"Strange," he muttered, also confused as Ava, but he regained his composure and cleared his throat. "Miss Sasha was meant to hand it over to you. She requested it was left with her."
Ava frowned. "Thank you for informing me, Wadsworth."
The butler gave a quick nod before Ava walked away and headed toward Sasha’s room.
The door to her room was slightly open, and as Ava got closer, she could hear whispers. Sasha wasn’t alone.
Standing by the door, Ava’s eyes fell on Matilda who sat on Sasha’s bed with her. Different boxes containing jewelries were placed between them as they picked out the designs.
Ava’s eyes moved around the room until she saw the huge box lying on Sasha’s desk. The box was open, and at that sight, Ava became extremely furious. She was about to call Sasha on it but stopped when she heard their conversation.
"Do you have a twin sister, mum?" Sasha held out a picture that she removed from one of the boxes to the light.
Since Sasha and Matilda backed her, Ava caught a glimpse of the photo with the way Sasha held it. Her hand froze on the door frame at the sight, and she suddenly remembered something even if the memory wasn’t clear. She’d heard this question, seen this picture before, even if she didn’t know where, but she was certain of this.
She held her hair as she started hearing whispers that weren’t clear. "Yes... Mother is a twin... Hahaha... Are you shocked?" It was Sasha’s voice.
The room spun as Sasha’s voice kept ringing in her head, and Ava started feeling dizzy. She had to tighten her grip on the door frame to stop herself from falling.
Still unaware of Ava’s presence, Matilda’s eyes widened as she snatched the photo away from Sasha. "Where’d you get this?!"
Sasha was stunned by her mother’s attitude. "I found it in this box." She pointed to it innocently.
Matilda’s eyes soften when she heard Sasha’s timid voice. Her reaction wasn’t intentional. She forced a small smile. "I’m sorry, honey." As she tried to think of an excuse, her eyes fell on Ava by the door and she frowned. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Ava?!"
The voices ceased immediately, and Ava looked up as she tried to catch her breath. All these while, she had this feeling that she was forgetting something from her previous life, but she always brushed off the thought. Now, she was certain.
Matilda stood to her feet like she’d been caught doing something so bad. "What are you doing here?!" She demanded. "How long have you been standing there?!"
Ava’s knees were weak, but she managed to straighten herself. Inhaling deeply, "Not too long. I came to get my package from your daughter."
Sasha also rose from the bed. "Is this yours?" She asked innocently. "Wadsworth must’ve delivered it to me by mistake," she lied, earning a scoff from Ava.
"Well, that’s not what he told me. He said you specifically asked for my package, claiming you’d send it to me," Ava said dryly.
Sasha’s face dropped. She didn’t expect Wadsworth to say something like this to Ava. When she’d gone to get her package, she’d seen one for Ava. On every other day, she wouldn’t have bothered herself with it, but when she saw Maximus’s name on it, she became furious.
She would have destroyed the package and every trace of it, but she was curious about what was inside. She only opened the box before her mother walked into her room with boxes of jewelries, and she had been occupied with it.
"Are you calling me a thief, Ava?"
Sasha definitely wanted a fight, but Ava was not in the mood. She was trying to keep herself steady after everything that happened. "I only want my package, Sasha."
Matilda eyed Ava. "Give her the package, Sasha," she said before Sasha grumpily returned the package to Ava.
