Chapter 182: Was he ignoring her?

Dressed in a long satin nightgown, Ella skipped down the stairs with a laptop in her hand.

"You guys are here..." Ella paused when she noticed a persistent gaze on her, "Why are you looking at me like that, Penny?"

Penny smiled, "Miss Yu, you look so pretty."

Ella touched her face instinctively before she smiled brightly, "Thanks for the compliment.’’ She didn’t get that a lot.

"Girls..." Ella sat on the throne chair and turned the laptop in their direction.

And apart from Shishi, the calmest and most professional one of them, the rest gasped.

"It’s live! It’s live!" For some reason, Rin felt a little emotional. A few months ago, she was still helping Esther get information against Ella.

Just thinking about it made her squirm uncomfortably. But today, she helped Ella in such a huge task and her chest swelled.

At a little distance, Bertha wiped her tears as she watched her young daughter seated between the other four ladies, talking about work.

She glanced at Ella, her eyes filling with gratefulness.

"The responses..." A soft mumble came from Penny who was looking at the laptop closely, "...they are huge. The views are rocketing!"

"Miss Yu, the website has been ready for a while now but you held back on releasing it until today..." June looked at her.

The other three also turned to Ella.

"I was getting hated everywhere so I thought I should make some money out of it hehehe~"

The four ladies: "_"

In fact, Ella’s way of handling the matter was pure genius in a lot of ways.

And that did not go unnoticed by people who were proficient in this field, like Shishi.

Ella had been posting on her social media consistently for a while now. And every post of hers stirred a controversy, with people making speculations, digging into her past and present. freewebnøvel.coɱ

And just when public curiosity towards Ella reached its peak, Ella disappeared.

One can say that from the very beginning, Ella had the vision of reviving her social media for the sole purpose of her profits. And it was not just her randomly posting her selfies.

What contributed more to that was the university fiasco. Imperial University was one of the most prestigious institutions and a scandal so big definitely garnered a lot of attention.

Although that was not a part of her plan, Ella utilized it to maximize her benefits. Right when people were waiting for an update from her, she disappeared.

And when everybody was watching her closely, she returned and dropped her website, garnering millions of views without any flashy advertisements.

After discussing the future plans, Ella arranged for a driver to drop June and Penny at their places.

After she returned to her room, she did her skincare, pulled out her notepad and jotted down about a few ingredients which had become a part of her routine lately.

That night, Ella wandered out of her room around midnight but the lights in the study were off and the master bedroom was closed as well.

She stood in the hallway a few seconds longer, before eventually returning to her room in silence.

In the next two days, the stocks in the ’Elle’ had almost been emptied. Most of the items were sold in a flash.

As the products were popular and rare, the fashion fanatics brought it like crazy, with some of them reaching out to the official mail to ask if there were more specific items in stock.

On the third day, Ella watched the money in her account grow up to millions overnight and plopped on the bed like a satisfied koi fish.

"Miss Yu, E-Esther has been texting me constantly again," Rin informed the girl who was lying on the bed with a wide grin on her face.

Ella paused, "Ignore her."

"I ignored her the past few days as you wanted but... but she is threatening..." Rin’s knuckles turned white around her phone. Ella said nothing at first, just took the device with a slow inhale.

Ella took Rin’s phone from her.

Esther’s last message read: [Rin, you can’t really be dreaming of turning over a new leaf by ignoring me. If you don’t respond to me, don’t blame me for what might happen to you or your mother in the future."

Ella looked at Rin who was trying to appear calm but the anxiety on her face was palpable.

In the past few months, the girl had grown more mature and composed. But at the end of the day, she was just a girl in her late teenage years.

Ella approached her and stroked her head.

Rin froze.

Ella looked at her, "I have involved you in this. But don’t worry, this facade will soon be over."

"Miss Yu?"

"Talk to her. Do what she says...for now," Ella added, her tone darker. "She’s digging her own grave. We’ll hand her the shovel."

Rin shivered involuntarily. For a moment, she felt like the person in front of her was not the easygoing Ella they were familiar with. That vicious gaze—

In the blink of an eye, Ella seemed to have returned to normal as she flashed her a soft smile.

"Y-Yes, Miss Yu."

After Rin left, Ella walked towards the window.

In her previous life, she had trusted Esther like a fool. She had lowered herself for other people’s comfort and let herself be trampled again and again by Max and Esther in the name of love and family.

In this life, she was never going to repeat the same mistake. But she had wanted to reconcile with her parents before dealing with Esther.

At the end of the day, Ella did not want them torn by having to choose between her and Esther.

So, she had slowed things down, pretended to be clueless in front of Esther and let her do as she wished for a while.

But now... it was probably too late for that. Since Esther was getting restless in dealing with her, Ella would make sure she got satisfied this time!

That evening, all the four ladies who had helped in setting up the website received their pays.

Rin and Shishi visited Ella’s room to thank her personally, visibly more composed.

On the other hand, in a dingy apartment, Penny burst into tears when she saw the amount of money she had received. She kept thanking Ella profusely on the call.

Same was the case for June, who was a single mother. They had landed many jobs before but their pays had never been so high so when she called Ella, she sounded calm but one could hear the wobble in her throat when she thanked her.

And the old security guard in Ella’s apartment also got his share.

The entire event proceeded smoothly and Ella’s first attempt in making money was a hit.

Satisfied with how things unfolded, she clicked a selfie and posted it on her social media, captioning it as: [Thank you for your constant love and support~ I know you missed me too much <3]

As soon as she posted the picture, eager netizens started commenting in 0.1 seconds.

[This girl... is too thick-skinned!]

[Eh... She should open her eyes and see that she was being hated, not loved.]

[Delusional.]

[But still richer and smarter than you, this sister above!]

[What?]

[I visited her website when it was launched and everything was above a hundred thousand dollars. Now, most of the things are sold out so do you realize how much money she made out of it...]

[I am envious *sobs*]

[Bro, look at the luxurious painting behind her... Isn’t it one of the rare Renaissance pieces! She is rich for real!]

[I heard she was richer at her peak.]

Unlike a few days ago where the only support comment she had gotten was from that weird usernamed person @theonlysuninhersky, more people were supporting her now.

However, surprisingly, the only person who had supported her when nobody else did seemed to have disappeared completely now.

Ella scrolled through the comments for a little more before she slumped on the couch.

She opened the contacts and her fingers hovered over the first name in her contact list—Adrian.

After their confrontation that happened a few days ago, she hadn’t seen him for a while. Neither Adrian had contacted her nor had he returned to the Eve Mansion.

Even Ji Yan hadn’t appeared at the Eve Mansion after that day.

’Adrian, Adrian, are you ignoring me?’ Ella quirked her brows, looking at the caller ID that wouldn’t stop blinking on her phone just a few days ago but now, it had completely gone silent.

Ruby, Kade and even Ronan dropped texts to congratulate her for the successful launch of her website. Yet, Adrian did not.

After giving it a thought, Ella dialled the number finally.

Hearing the sound of rings, she sat up on the couch but after a few moments, her face fell.

Adrian did not answer the call.

A niggling emptiness settled in her chest. He usually answered her call in a split-second, even when she did not talk, or when he was working but now that she was calling him, he did not answer.

The strange feeling lingered in her chest for a long while before she forcefully tamped it down.

Ella had plans for tomorrow so she could not dwell on things that weighed her down... or people who disappeared at their convenience.
