Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 135: Proactively Handing Over the Room Card
Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Proactively Handing Over the Room Card
Chen Group, celebration banquet.
Under secure escort, Lin Zhiyi carried a safe and followed Xue Man into Chen Hongwei’s resting room.
Apart from Lin Zhiyi, the accompanying personnel included Bella and Shen Yan.
Shen Yan was recommended by Bella, and without much thought, Lin Zhiyi knew this was Song Wanqiu’s intention.
They all wanted to put her in a dire situation today.
But this suited her just fine.
If Shen Yan didn’t show up, the play wouldn’t go on.
As soon as Lin Zhiyi entered, she was met with Chen Hongwei’s naked, threatening gaze.
He lit a cigar, laughed, and said, "President Xue, quite punctual. I thought you didn’t want to come."
Xue Man, wearing a black backless evening gown with a superior and efficient aura, replied without faltering, "Mr. Chen is one of our biggest clients, how could I dare to neglect you?"
After speaking, she glanced at Lin Zhiyi and said with commanding presence, "Why haven’t you gone yet? Do I need to prompt you for such a trivial matter?"
Lin Zhiyi’s face turned pale as if marching to her doom, she walked up to Chen Hongwei.
"Mr. Chen, this is the jewelry you ordered, please take a look."
After unlocking the safe, Chen Hongwei took out the jewelry box and opened it.
The brooch was the same as before, but the sapphire that had been in the fish’s head was now an ordinary sapphire instead of a Kashmir Sapphire.
Just as Chen Hongwei was about to burst into rage, he noticed a room card stuck on the inside of the box lid.
He immediately understood that Lin Zhiyi had compromised.
"Hahaha," Chen Hongwei laughed heartily, put on the brooch on his chest, and said, "Not bad at all, I like those who recognize the way things are, and I really like this brooch."
Xue Man gave a slight nod: "Thank you, Mr. Chen. We won’t disturb you further and will take our leave."
Chen Hongwei waved his hand: "Go ahead, I’ll see you later at the banquet."
His words were directed at Xue Man, but his eyes were almost glued to Lin Zhiyi.
After leaving the resting room, Lin Zhiyi was somewhat distracted.
She caught up with Xue Man and pleaded, "President Xue, I’m feeling a bit unwell, I’d like to get some air in the hall before heading to the banquet."
Xue Man’s face stiffened with displeasure: "Lin Zhiyi, it’s too late to escape now."
Lin Zhiyi bit her lip and nodded.
As she turned around, Shen Yan took her arm.
"Zhiyi, I’ll accompany you."
Accompany?
Lin Zhiyi knew Shen Yan was afraid she would run off.
The two made their way to the lounge area of the hall and ordered two glasses of juice from a server.
Lin Zhiyi stirred the fruit juice in her glass with a straw.
Across from her, Shen Yan kept urging her to accept her fate.
"Zhiyi, just accept your lot, we can’t fight against those rich people."
"If Mr. Chen were willing to step back, what a good situation that would be - others would be envious."
When Shen Yan said this, her tone rose, even with a tinge of disdain.
Lin Zhiyi fixed her gaze on her and said faintly, "Right, others would be envious."
"As long as you understand," Shen Yan lowered her head to sip her juice, a sneaky smile on her lips.
As Lin Zhiyi lifted her glass, her hand slipped and the juice spilled over, drenching the hem of her dress; she quickly stood up and shook off her skirt.
"I’m going to the front desk to get some tissues."
She hurried off, but mid-way, she accidentally bumped into someone.
The person steadied her, and upon recognizing her face, quickly greeted, "Miss Lin, are you all right?"
Lin Zhiyi, lifting her skirt, somewhat helplessly said, "Assistant Chen, I am sorry, my dress is wet and I was going to get some tissues."
The person she bumped into was Gong Chen’s assistant, Chen Jin.
Chen Jin looked at the water stain on her dress: "Miss Lin, don’t move, I’ll go to the front desk and get you a dry towel."
"Thank you."
Soon, Chen Jin returned from the front desk with a towel and handed it to Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi took the towel but did not immediately unfold it.
In her peripheral vision, she saw someone hastily approaching.
As that person arrived, Lin Zhiyi looked at Chen Jin with a hint of joy: "Assistant Chen, thank you, please convey my thanks to Third Young Master. You can go back to what you were doing."
"Hm?" Chen Jin paused, startled.
But before he could ask Lin Zhiyi, Shen Yan clung to her like a plaster.
"Assistant Chen, what were you discussing? Thanks for what? You being here means Third Young Master is also here, right? Where is he?"
Chen Jin’s expression chilled, he said sternly: "Miss, Third Young Master doesn’t know you. What are your intentions for inquiring about his whereabouts?"
Shen Yan’s face stiffened, unwillingly pointing at herself: "Assistant Chen, how could Third Young Master possibly not know me? We’ve met many times, I’m..."
Chen Jin didn’t pay her any attention, turned to Lin Zhiyi, and with polite nods said: "Miss Lin, I’ll be going then."
"Take care."
After seeing off Chen Jin, Shen Yan’s face twisted with anger and she turned to grip Lin Zhiyi’s arm tightly.
"Zhiyi, what did Assistant Chen tell you? What’s happened to Third Young Master?"
Lin Zhiyi winced in pain and looked up with eyes filled with helplessness.
"Shen Yan, we’re best friends, that’s why I told you, and now I don’t even know what to choose."
"What do you mean by that?" Shen Yan’s tone hardened.
Lin Zhiyi sighed and slowly unfolded the dry towel in her hand.
