Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 120: Breaking the Internet
The next morning, my whole body ached like I’d been hit by a truck. It was probably from wearing the corset for too long, or maybe from absorbing way too much bad energy at the gala.
I groaned, reached for my phone lazily, and started checking the news to see if my appearance with Lando last night had made any impact.
"Holy shit!" I sat up on the bed, staring at my screen in disbelief. Not only were my name and Lando trending on every news site, but people on social media were going crazy about us too.
When I opened Zentra, there were countless photos of us everywhere, and some people had even made romantic—and honestly, some pretty cringey—video edits of us with background music straight out of a cheesy drama.
I took a deep breath before diving into the comment section, mentally preparing myself for hate comments... but to my surprise, there were barely any.
[They look so perfect together! They’re like the prince and princess I always imagine when reading a fantasy novel!]
[Damn! Isn’t that Helcia? The kitten mom?! And the one who just became Rosélle Beauty’s new face?!]
[Why is it that every time I open this app, this goddess is trending again? I didn’t even know she had a connection with the Brixton family!]
[Who’s that guy?? I didn’t know Victor Brixton had a son who uses a wheelchair!]
[Wait... he’s Victor Brixton’s illegitimate son? No way, so both of them are illegitimate children?!]
I couldn’t help but laugh. Of course, that fact alone was shocking to them.
Who would’ve thought that two people society once looked down on could come together and somehow become the perfect match everyone was talking about?
Some people even started defending us, saying that our status as illegitimate children wasn’t relevant since we weren’t the ones who committed any sins.
[I used to go to the same school as Lando Brixton, and I saw him getting bullied by his brother almost every day. Honestly, both Helcia and Lando are victims of their parents’ mistakes.]
I narrowed my eyes as I read that comment. I didn’t expect people to claim they had gone to the same school as Lando.
It was ironic, though, because most of them had just stood by and watched back then, none of them ever tried to help him.
Still, I couldn’t blame them too much. People were just trying to survive, and getting involved in a fight between rich heirs was practically suicide.
At least now, they were speaking up, even if they had to hide behind anonymous accounts.
After people learned about what Lando went through, no one dared to say anything bad about my sweet husband anymore.
And honestly, what could they even hate about him? He looked so gentle, so harmless.
I kept scrolling through the comment section for a while until suddenly, my phone started ringing. It was Marissa.
"Morning, Helcia!" she sounded unusually cheerful today, maybe because I had just gone viral, or maybe for another reason.
"Good morning, Marissa," I replied softly, my voice still hoarse from just waking up.
"There’s so much I want to talk to you about today, but first, you looked absolutely stunning last night!" she said excitedly. "You really managed to steal everyone’s attention, which is amazing for your career."
Then her tone shifted slightly, more serious. "But remember, rookies without a strong fanbase can fall fast. Be careful, okay?"
"I know, I know," I said with a small laugh. "Don’t worry, I’m not stupid enough to ruin my own reputation."
Honestly, I’d rather die for a second time than destroy my career before it even had the chance to truly begin.
"Speaking of your career," Marissa continued, her voice brimming with excitement, "I’ve got some good news about your auditions."
"Green Leaf Production said they want to see you again for the third round, while Red Zone Production..." she paused, and the silence instantly made my heart race. "They said they want to see you directly at the filming location."
My eyes widened in disbelief, and a wave of pride rushed through my chest. That could only mean one thing; Red Zone Production had officially chosen me to play the role of Elena.
For a moment, I just sat there, frozen, letting the words sink in. Then, slowly, a huge smile spread across my face. All those late nights practicing lines, the nerves, the exhaustion, everything had finally paid off.
"But Helcia..." Marissa’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. "Handling two jobs at the same time might be too much for you. Your role as Elena might not have many lines, but wouldn’t it be better to focus on one thing for now?"
In Marissa’s eyes, I was still just a rookie, so it was understandable that she thought it would be safer for me to take only one job at a time.
But I had already thought this through. I wasn’t just taking random risks; I had a plan. I believed that doing two projects at once would push my career forward faster.
Besides, it would show everyone how versatile I could be as an actress, that I wasn’t just another pretty face trying her luck, but someone who could handle a wide range of roles.
"I appreciate your concern, Marissa," I said softly, smiling even though she couldn’t see it through the phone. "But I can handle it. I’ve been waiting for this chance for so long, and I don’t want to slow down now."
I must’ve sounded so confident that Marissa finally let go of all the doubts she’d been holding about me.
"If you really want this, then go for it," Marissa said firmly. "I’ll help you manage your schedule, but once we commit to this, there’s no turning back halfway, Helcia."
"I know, Marissa. I understand," I said with a reassuring smile. "I won’t back down halfway."
After being away from this industry for so long, there was nothing I wanted more than to stand in front of the camera again.
I wanted to shine, and I wanted to be a star once more.
But this time, I’d make sure the road I took wasn’t as dirty or painful as the one I walked before.
