Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 147: Too Convenient to Be an Accident
Even though I felt a little sleepy, I couldn’t relax enough to sleep after remembering that tomorrow I would attend the trial.
Honestly, the thing that made me the most nervous was the fact that Addison didn’t make any movement at all. She didn’t call me or send any threatening messages.
I even unblocked her number so I could receive her threats and use them in court later, but nothing.
It felt too calm... the kind of silence that comes before a storm.

The next day, Lando texted me, asking me to wait for him at home so we could go to the courthouse together.
At first, I thought it’d be more practical to just meet there. The airport was closer to the courthouse anyway, so having him go all the way home first felt unnecessary. But when I thought about how nervous I was for the trial... going with Lando actually sounded comforting.
So, I agreed to his plan.
Around two hours before noon, Lando’s car finally arrived at the mansion. He asked Henry to take his luggage, but he didn’t even step out of the car.
"Are you okay?" I asked right away as I sat inside and saw him. His hair was messy, his clothes looked a bit out of place, something I had almost never seen on him. "Do you want to rest a bit inside the house?"
He shook his head lightly. "There’s no time," he said. "And I’m fine. I just overslept and rushed to catch the flight earlier."
Overslept? That didn’t sound like him at all.
"What time did you even sleep last night?" I asked curiously.
Lando looked away, mumbling under his breath, "Six... in the morning."
My eyes widened the moment I heard that. "What on earth were you doing?!" Without thinking, I grabbed a blanket and spread it over him. "If you don’t sleep properly, you won’t be able to function! I know you’re busy, but you can’t ignore your health like this! What if you suddenly pass out because you barely sleep?"
I couldn’t stop myself from scolding him. With his condition, overworking himself was the last thing he should do.
"I’m not ready to be a widow yet," I grumbled dramatically. "Now sleep. I’ll wake you up when we get to the courthouse."
Lando let out a tiny breath—maybe a laugh, maybe just exhaustion—and nodded. "Alright..."
He didn’t argue or explain anything. He just closed his eyes quietly.
I grabbed a small pillow and placed it next to him, helping him lean comfortably against the window. If only his wheelchair could recline... but for now, this would do.
When we arrived at the courthouse, I immediately spotted Ethan waiting near the entrance. The moment he saw us, he hurried over with a worried look on his face.
"Mr. Brixton, Ms. Orszebet, I have bad news," he said, his voice tight.
He kept checking his watch nervously before finally saying, "I’m afraid we won’t be able to go through with the hearing today."
My brows pulled together. "Why?"
If the hearing wasn’t held today, then I would fail to get my reward for my random quest.
Penny said I wouldn’t receive a penalty if I couldn’t complete the random quest, but still... losing such a large amount of money definitely felt like a punishment!
"The lawyer representing Mrs. Davenport just informed the court that Mrs. Davenport cannot attend the hearing today," Ethan explained. "Apparently, she got into an accident last night and is currently being treated at the hospital."
I clicked my tongue and looked at Ethan in disbelief. "Really? She just happened to get into an accident the day before the trial? Isn’t that... extremely convenient?"
Ethan nodded, clearly frustrated. "I know it’s just a trick. But since her lawyer provided photos of the accident and her current condition, the court decided to cancel today’s hearing."
"How convincing are the pictures?" I asked, my voice stiff.
"Very convincing," Ethan said with a troubled look.
He pulled out his phone and showed us the photos he managed to snap earlier. The moment I saw them, my heart dropped.
There was a smoking truck, the side of Addison’s car destroyed badly, and... her driver was found dead, his body covered in blood.
Apparently, the truck had slammed straight into the driver’s side, so Addison wasn’t hit directly.
"The driver really died?" Lando asked, his eyes darkening.
Ethan nodded. "Yes. I confirmed it myself. Mr. Mores passed away last night."
I looked at the pictures with a storm of emotions inside my chest. I was certain Addison was only pretending to be injured, but the driver’s death was a strong indication that she wasn’t faking it entirely.
"If I can prove that she’s faking her injuries, can we still have the hearing tomorrow?" I asked.
Ethan pressed his lips together. "It depends... but I might be able to pull some strings to make that happen." He paused, then added, "The real question is, how do we prove she’s lying?"
Mr. Mores died in the ER, in front of doctors and nurses. There was no way to deny that. But what if Addison planned everything? What if she arranged the truck? What if she sacrificed her own driver just to avoid court?
I clenched my hands tightly beside me. It sounded extremely cruel, but knowing how wicked Addison was, I couldn’t rule out the possibility.
"Husband, can you provide me with a few trusted doctors?" I turned to Lando.
"Yes," he said right away. "But I doubt Mrs. Davenport will allow anyone outside to examine her."
He was right. With such a strong alibi presented already, Addison would never let a neutral doctor near her.
"I’m not asking them to examine her," I said firmly. "I need them as witnesses."
Then I looked at Ethan. "Mr. Rowell, I’ll need your help too."
Ethan straightened up immediately. It seemed that my confidence also boosted his. He looked determined that he could drag Addison to court tomorrow. "Just tell me what you need, Ms. Orszebet," he said. "We’ll make sure she shows up in court tomorrow."
