Reborn With A Technology System In A Fantasy World-Chapter 122: Soul Upgrade!
Chapter 122: Soul Upgrade!
Adrian stared at the message floating in his vision:
He knew exactly what it meant. The soul harvested by the System. Absorbing it.
Yet, a flicker of caution held him back. What would merging with another soul do to him? Would it change who he was? Overwrite parts of him? The possibilities were as terrifying as they were tempting.
He had to know the risk.
"Would assimilating... this soul cause me harm in any way?"
[No]
The single, stark reply surprised him. The System rarely answered direct questions about its deeper functions so plainly. He felt some relief, but he wasn’t satisfied. It said no harm, but what exactly was the purpose? "What is it for? What would the assimilation accomplish?" Adrian pressed.
[...]
Silence.
Adrian wrestled with his doubts. The Tech Core had guided him this far, albeit mysteriously.
He doubted the System meant him harm, he was it after all. Skepticism would only him nothing.
’I hope it’s something good,’ Adrian told himself firmly, pushing down the last vestiges of hesitation.
"Okay," he declared, the word echoing slightly in the vast space. "Assimilate."
No further prompt came. The System simply acted.
A tiny point of pure, brilliant white light appeared a few feet in front of him. It hovered, pulsating softly, like a captured star.
Adrian watched, mesmerized, as it hung there for a fraction of a second. Then, faster than thought, it streaked forward, a white-hot comet aimed directly at his forehead.
There was no impact, only a chilling, silent merging as the light vanished into his skin.
The agony was instantaneous and absolute.
It wasn’t physical pain, not in his muscles or bones.
It was his mind, his very self, being torn apart. A scream ripped from his throat, raw and involuntary, as he felt his consciousness shredded into a billion screaming fragments.
His will, the core of who he was shattered like glass under a hammer blow. Just as quickly, some unseen force slammed the pieces back together, only for the cycle to repeat – shattering, reforming, shattering again.
Time lost all meaning. Seconds stretched into eternities filled with nothing but excruciating, soul-deep torment.
He felt like he was trapped in a nightmare that lasted for years, centuries, an unending loop of destruction and reconstruction happening at the speed of thought.
He couldn’t think, neither could he reason; there was only the white-hot fire consuming his inner world.
He writhed on the impossibly soft grass, fingers clawing at the earth, tearing up handfuls of green blades in a futile attempt to anchor himself to something real.
His screams echoed across the Factory’s expanse, a continuous sound of pure, mindless agony.
He shouted until his throat was raw and tears streamed down his face as his body convulsed. He felt utterly, terrifyingly mad.
The pain was the all consuming, leaving no room for anything else. It was endless, a torment that felt like it had always existed and would always exist.
Just when he felt his sanity would dissolve completely into the void of pain, a shift occurred.
The relentless shattering began to slow. The white light, the invasive force, wasn’t just breaking him anymore – it was forging him.
It hammered his shattered will, not to destroy, but to temper it, folding it over and over like molten steel, driving out impurities and weaknesses he never knew existed.
The agony remained excruciating, but now it served a brutal purpose.
Finally, after an eternity within that fractured time, the pain vanished. It did not fade, nor lesson. It completely vanished.
One moment, agony defined existence; the next, profound stillness. It was so abrupt and so complete that the memory of the torment itself seemed to blur, pushed aside by an overwhelming wave of unnatural calm and crystalline clarity.
Adrian lay still on the grass, breathing raggedly. Slowly, shakily, he pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, then stood. He opened his eyes.
The world was naked. He saw the swirling colors of the sky not just as patterns, but understood their subtle shifts and currents.
He felt the texture of the air against his skin, the minute vibrations in the ground, the life thrumming within each blade of grass – all with a hyper-awareness that was almost overwhelming.
His mind felt like a diamond; sharp, hard, and impossibly clear. Thoughts flowed with effortless speed and precision.
A wave of notifications soon bloomed before him, the System’s voice resonating within his newfound stillness:

[Soul’s Memory Yet to be Processed]
Adrian clenched his fist, trying to feel something.
Physically, he felt unchanged. Yet, the difference within was staggering. He felt... transcendent. Limitless.
He could process a thousand complex thoughts simultaneously in the space of a single breath. He felt superhuman, not in body, but in mind and spirit.
A memory surfaced: The oppressive weight of a warrior’s aura, and Master Von’s dismissive explanation when he brought it up during training –
"It’s just projecting your will onto the world. Forget it; your mental strength can’t do anything."
Couldn’t. The word echoed in his mind. Now, he knew differently.
He didn’t know if there were techniques or theories behind it, but he simply focused his intent and he willed the air around him to move.
Instantly, the vibrant sky seemed to pulse. A gentle sigh whispered through the grass, ruffling the blades around his boots.
He could feel the air, sense its currents and molecules as easily as he felt his own heartbeat.
It was effortless, like flexing a new limb. A smirk touched his lips.
’Gentle,’ Adrian commanded silently, and the breeze responding, softening into a barely-there caress.
