Chapter 80: Chapter80-Abyssal Core
"I’m willing to accept the title," Daniel said slowly, his tone calm but unwavering. "But I hope to choose my own territory." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
The moment those words left his mouth, the Human Emperor felt a subtle sense of relief wash over him.
To him, that condition was barely a demand at all. The territory of the human race was vast—letting Daniel pick his own fiefdom wasn’t any trouble. Even if Daniel couldn’t find a place he liked, the Human Emperor wouldn’t hesitate to carve out a portion of his own land to grant him. At their level, land was no longer about practical ownership—it was symbolic, a gesture of power and influence more than anything else.
"You can choose wherever you like," the Human Emperor replied without hesitation. "Even if you want a piece of land from deep within the human heartland, I’ll find a way to make it happen."
He had originally expected Daniel to choose some prosperous region, a fertile land with rich resources and strong strategic value.
But what he didn’t expect was for Daniel to bring up the northern frontier of the human territories.
"Your Excellency Human Emperor," Daniel said, his eyes unwavering, "if I remember correctly, there are still large portions of unclaimed territory in the northern frontier."
The Human Emperor paused, caught off guard by the mention of that name.
The northern frontier? Was he serious?
That place wasn’t just unprosperous—it was dangerous.
It bordered the Abyss, a terrifying region that spawned monstrous lifeforms, and invasions from abyssal beasts were a regular occurrence. Given the looming arrival of the Millennium Apocalypse, the north was the last place anyone would willingly stake their claim.
Why would Daniel choose such a perilous region?
But after a moment of silent contemplation, the Human Emperor quickly saw through to the heart of the matter.
The northern frontier wasn’t just poor in resources—it was a crucible of danger and survival. Daniel’s choice likely wasn’t about strategic advantage or political maneuvering. No, it was probably to temper himself, to grow stronger by enduring the endless onslaught of abyssal beasts.
Realization struck the Human Emperor, and his gaze toward Daniel grew more complex. There was now a hint of genuine admiration in his eyes.
"I had thought you would choose a prosperous region," he said with a soft chuckle. "But it seems your temperament is even more tenacious than I expected. With that kind of drive, I’m certain it won’t be long before your power surpasses mine."
He did not hide his praise. In fact, the Human Emperor had never been stingy with compliments toward those he admired. At this point, he no longer saw Daniel as a junior or even a subordinate—he was already toying with the idea of grooming him as a successor.
Putting himself in Daniel’s shoes, the Human Emperor had to admit: when he was Daniel’s age, he wasn’t even close to being this composed, powerful, or insightful.
He had lived for over a thousand years and had seen countless so-called prodigies—but a monster of talent like Daniel? This was a first.
Which was why, upon confirming Daniel’s unbelievable battle record, he had decided almost immediately to crown him as a king of the human race.
Only he truly understood how terrifying Daniel’s potential was.
"Still," the Human Emperor said after a pause, "I must ask again—are you certain you wish to claim the northern frontier as your territory?"
Daniel nodded firmly, a flicker of resolve in his gaze.
His choice was not made on a whim.
Yes, part of the reason was indeed the Abyss. The dangerous proximity would allow him to engage in constant combat and grow stronger faster.
But there was another reason.
His third-stage Star Upgrade Quest required him to enter the Abyss. Since that was the case, wouldn’t it be more convenient to establish his territory there?
Daniel laid out his reasoning clearly and without hesitation. The Human Emperor, seeing how thoroughly thought-out the choice was, didn’t try to persuade him otherwise. Instead, he simply said:
"Since you’ve decided, I will immediately have my people begin preparing for your coronation ceremony."
With the matter of territory resolved, the Human Emperor smoothly shifted to the true core of their meeting.
"Now then, King of the North," he said solemnly, "I need to ask you another serious question. What exactly happened with the gnome race and Terra Fortress?"
Daniel had long anticipated this question.
Given how explosive the event had been, he knew it was only a matter of time before someone came seeking answers. That the Human Emperor was asking directly now was completely expected.
The only issue was—he didn’t know the answer himself.
Daniel hadn’t orchestrated anything. What had happened at Terra Fortress was a mystery even to him.
But fortunately, he had already prepared a perfect response.
"As for that matter," Daniel said with a faint sigh, "I honestly don’t know much myself. I simply followed the guidance of the god."
Now that the Human Emperor was convinced that Daniel had been chosen by a divine being, this explanation became perfectly plausible.
After all, could he really press a mere mortal to explain the decisions of a god?
Even if he tried to probe further—what could Daniel say? The will of a god was not something mortals could question, let alone comprehend.
Hearing the explanation, the Human Emperor let out a soft sigh.
He had already suspected as much on his way here. It made sense. No matter how monstrously talented Daniel was, he had only recently awakened his abilities. Events of such magnitude... even the Human Emperor himself had trouble investigating them.
How could Daniel possibly know?
But even if the answer didn’t shed much light, the incident still wasn’t without value.
At the very least, it had revealed something extremely important—the attitude of the god behind Daniel.
Of course, divine beings were unfathomable, and mortals could barely grasp their true intentions. But through this incident, one could infer a key point:
This god held no hostility toward the human race.
If they did, they would have allowed the southern regions of the human territories to be ravaged. But instead, they intervened.
That, in itself, was enough to bring peace of mind.
Because if a god had truly stood against the human race—combined with the oncoming Millennium Apocalypse—the humans would have had no chance at all.
With that, the Human Emperor withdrew from his spiraling thoughts and turned to Daniel again.
"Is there anything else you’d like to discuss with me?" he asked. "If not, I’ll personally accompany you to the northern frontier."
He looked Daniel up and down, noting his current aura and strength.
"I see you’ve reached Tier-6. This is the perfect time to enter the underground labyrinth of the north. That’s where your real battlefield lies."
"Even after you complete your Star Upgrade Quest, your next battles will continue to revolve around the north."
He paused for a moment, his gaze growing slightly strange.
"To think... it’s only been a single day since we met, and you’re already preparing to complete your second-star promotion quest."
"By the way," he added with a half-smile, "is there anything I can assist you with in that quest? Just say the word. If it’s within my power, I’ll help you."
Daniel lowered his eyes thoughtfully. After a brief moment, he nodded and replied,
"Please allow me ten minutes—I have a few matters to handle."
"Oh, and regarding my Star Upgrade Quest... one of the required items is 100,000 Abyssal Cores."
The Human Emperor had only offered his help casually, without expecting too much. He had the authority to mobilize all human resources, so lending aid to Daniel’s quest shouldn’t have been difficult.
But the moment Daniel made his request, the Human Emperor’s expression froze.
Wait... what?
One hundred thousand Abyssal Cores?!
Was this kid trying to rob the entire Abyss blind!?
