Reborn with the Conquest System-Chapter 46: Chieftain
As they moved through the streets, the orcs were surprisingly gathering around the two of them. Many curious gazes came from the crowd, scanning Magnus body up and down.
Even the faint murmurs coming from the crowd showed they didn’t care.
"Meat?"
"But why is he riding?"
"Seems like fighter. Me want to fight!"
’Another observation. The orcs all seem to have varying levels of intelligence. Any orc which can hold a decent position in their society seems to have brains, meaning—’
His gaze swept over the scout in front of him.
’Interesting. What’s even more interesting is that he had dared to lie about the amount of orcs here.’
With a quick glance at the map, he saw more than a thousand orcs scattered around the nearby town.
"We’ve arrived." The orc said, getting off the wolf.
In front of Magnus lay an ominous stone keep, roughly 20 meters tall, with the only entry point being the gate to enter the structure.
Jumping off the wolf as well, Magnus followed behind the orc scout as they headed towards the door. Two guards looked confused at this spectacle, yet upon seeing the orc scout approach, they backed off.
Seeing the scout orc trying to push open a 4 meter tall door felt silly, yet he made his way over and shoved him aside.
Placing both hands in the door—
Creeeeaaaaaak
The doors that seemed to requirea dozen orcs to push were casually opened by Magnus, prompting a wave of murmurs to escape from the nearby peanut gallery.
"Strong."
"Strong like chief!"
Entering the hall, Magnus saw the three shamans and the orc chieftain.
A long table lined with food stretched for at least a dozen meters, on its very end the chieftain wolfing down a man sized piece of meat. Even while it was sitting, it exuded a powerful sense of oppression that wrapped around Magnus.
’Not bad.’ He though as he seized up the orc that was twice as big as other orcs even when seated.
At the same time, the shamans that were seated on the sides of the table had risen up and began looking at Magnus with hostility.
"How dare a human disturb our meal time!" The oldest shouted, his beard flying around.
All three of them began to now gather magic, a slight blue cloud visible to Magnus naked eyes concentrating on them.
Yet before he could channel his own magic—
"Sit." A voice echoed, steady like a mountain and deep like a sea.
The chieftain had spoken, and the three shamans sat down again. Seeing this spectacle, Magnus turned back to look at the chieftain.
A tense silence descended in the hall. Every orc was fidgeting, glancing between the unknown human and their chieftain.
"Sit as well, human."
’Hm? Is he scheming something or is he genuinely thinking I am no threat? No, doesn’t make sense, we’re about even—and he should know that? But why...’
Even as his mind raced, Magnus sat down at the end of the table, opposite of the chieftain.
"What’s your name and why come here?"
"Magnus, to conquer." A court reply from Magnus.
The orc chief paused his chewing for a moment, before shrugging and continuing as if it was of no concern. "Are you the one who killed Bugots? The lord of the dwarf castle."
"Yes, and shouldn’t you introduce yourself?"
"Rug. Why do you want to conquer us?"
"An enemy this close to my keep cannot be allowed to exist. And I do need to get a thousand subordinates who will obey my commands without hesitation, otherwise... ’ he made up a lie on the spot, making a throat slitting motion," My neck will fly. "
"That’s unfortunate. How about joining me as an honorary shaman then?"
As the chieftain’s words fell, the three shamans shot up from the table, eyeing the chieftain with a murderous state.
"That is preposterous! How dare a mare chieftain oppose our Shamanic Order! We will—"
The words of the eldest shaman were cut off as the chieftain also shot up, waves of pressure radiating out from him.
’What a spectacle, the only thing I lack is popcorn. But I can kinda tell where this is going—’
"Then how about the three of you fight him, and if he wins, all of you will get replaced by him as our tribes shaman!? OR DO YOU NOT RESPECT THE TRADITIONS YOU OLD DONKEYS!?"
"INSOLENT, HOW COULD A HUMAN EVER BE PLACED AS A TRIBES SHAMAN!?"
Shouting, yelling, screaming, cursing. Inside of Magnus head, a small Magnus was currently eating popcorn and watching the spectacle.
After plenty of curses were thrown around in not just common language but even orc language and spirit language...
"WE AGREE TO THE SHAMANIC DUEL!"
Snapping out of his reverie, Magnus ears perked up once he heard the world duel.
"How does the shamanic duel work?" He asked, yawning.
Seeing this, the three shamans scoffed at him, clearly enraged by his behavior.
"No direct contact between bodies or weapons, so you can only throw spells at each other and dodge or block."
’This doesn’t sound that bad... But I don’t know if the position I’ll get would even make the orcs count as subordinates. Much less if the chieftain is scheming something but...’
He glanced at his remaining skill points, a slightly mischievous grin on his face.
"Sounds interesting, I’m in. Where and when will the duel be held?" Magnus asked, his arms crossed.
"Let’s do it here, the roof of the keep makes an ideal arena to settle disputes. I don’t think the three of you would have a problem with that, would you?" The chieftain gave a side eye to the shamans.
"No, we don’t! You ungrateful bastard will be punished for your transgressions against our Order!"
"Yes yes, now let’s get going, I’m itching for some target practice." Magnus jumped in, drawing hostility from the three shamans.
Meanwhile, the chieftain gave an approving nod. He pointed to the side of the keep, where a staircase led up to the roof.
’If I really just need to fry three idiots with lightning to finish the quest, that would be nice...’ his thoughts trailed off while he ascended.
’No matter, three people want to become part of my xp bar, and even if the chieftain attacks, I’ll turn him into mincemeat by just dumping stats into strength.’
As the clear sky showed itself, an uneasy feeling suddenly came over him. ’But would I really slaughter a thousand troops if they simply submit to me, even if they’re lowly orcs?’
’Only time will tell, I suppose.’
