Chapter 49: Egg

Standing there, although he was tired, Magnus still felt like he could go another round if the chieftain tried anything.

Turning to look at him, he noticed most of the orcs looking away from him.

’As if they’re uncomfortable?’

"Ahem... Fetch him some clothes." The chieftain spoke, still looking away.

’Clothes? What—’

A bad feeling swept over him. ’I got hit by a fireball, don’t tell me...’

Steeling his heart, he looked down. His entire body was charred by the fireball, and his clothes had long since been turned into ashes.

Everything was on display.

A fur cloth was thrown to him by one of the orcs, and without hesitation he put it on.

’Orcs are not that bad. They’re really not that bad.’

[I wouldn’t just be worried about your clothes...]

’Huh!? What do you mean!?!?’

[You will see HAHAHAHAHA]

A few minutes passed, before everyone was once again looking at him.

"Now then, since you’ve won you should become the official shaman of this place. But... " The chieftain hesitated, before he pulled out an amulet of sorts.

"Consider this a sign of your membership to the tribe." Saying that, he tossed the amulet to Magnus who caught it.

Magnus began to inspect it.

A normal wooden amulet, with no suspicious markings of any sort. Under it was some sort of metal piece the size of a palm, yet Magnus’s expression grew worse the moment he saw it.

Not because he knew what it was, but because he saw his reflection.

His eyebrows were burnt off. His eyelashes were burnt off. His hair was burnt off. The charred skin had already fallen off, revealing a completely hairless head.

’I’ve reincarnated and turned into an egg... Ha... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA...’

"Uh... Magnus?" The chieftain asked, the sadness in his voice apparent.

"What is it?" Magnus replied, still looking at his own reflection.

"Let’s do the ceremony so you get your rank."

"A cereomy? Didn’t I beat all three of them so I just get the position?" Magnus asked, confused.

"You do get the position but you need to formally ascend to the rank of shaman. You need to go around, perform a simple ritual in front of the tribe, and—"

His words cut off, and a purple light started shining from the amulet. Before magnus could react, a chain shot out of the metal piece and wrapped around him.

’Why didn’t I feel anything coming!?’

Yet as his rage filled gaze turned to look at the confused chieftain, the chain wrapped around his eyes. The world around him distorted, and his consciousness faded to black.

---

In an underground cavern, a white shape was making its way through the endless rocky tunnels. A pair of blue eyes shone with an unnatural light, scanning every little detail it came across.

Occasionally, low growls escaped from its opened mouth, while the rumbling of its stomach gave away it’s hunger.

"Foooooooohd..."

[Magnus! How long are you gona keep this up, it’s only been two days!?]

"Zip it, you wanker! You wouldn’t get what it’s like to wander a cave fully naked, looking for a way out! MY DIGNITY! MY PRIDE AS A HUMAN BEING!"

He threw his head back, rubbing his bald head.

"GONEEEEE! ALL OF IT, GONE!"

[Whose fault is it for accepting a suspicious amulet? Gee I wonder...]

"Why didn’t you warn me it was going to be a trap? Why didn’t you tell me you could do something as stupid as draw a teleportation array on a tiny ass amulet!?"

[I can’t babysit you forever, Magnus. And I didn’t sense it either, the chieftain also probably didn’t know. ]

His anger simmered, pausing at the words he read. A confused expression showed on his face, the worry in his tone apparent.

"What do you mean, can’t babysit me forever? That implies you might one day dissappear? And that he didn’t know... I can believe that but he’ll still get it."

[Who knows what the future holds, so you know... Get a working brain, you dipshit! How can someone be stupid enough to take a trinket from an enemy!?]

"And here I got worried about you for a second!? You dick!"

[I can’t wait to see how you’re gona excuse this once it happens a second time.]

"It won’t happen a second time, I’ll learn every single magic there is and I’ll be ready for anything!"

[Sigh... I regret my decision with picking you.]

"And I regret to inform you you’re stuck with me. Anyways, it’s been a day of walking so how much have I crossed already?"

Glancing at his map, a very long line stretched behind him. The deep brown color signified dirt, and an occasional splash of blue had shown underground rivers and lakes.

’The only good part is that I have officially completed the stupid quest, even if the reward is nonsensical.’

In his left hand, a purple gem was clutched firmly.

’Flowstone, was it? Something about encasing souls in an energy field, can you explain it properly this time system?’

[It’s as you said, used to encase a soul in flow energy and shield it from other flow energy. ]

’So what does that mean!?’

[What I said. Keep it on yourself.]

’Ah... Whatever. I give up...’

Refocusing on the map he had open, he saw something that caused his pupils to shrink. A bunch of moving icons, the clear yellow color burning into his retinas.

’There’s things underground! There’s actually things underground! The first living things I’ll encounter in this stupid cavern system is ahead of me!’

[Why are you getting so excited over seeing living things?]

’Because it’s living things that I can control! And we’re underground!’

[So?]

’What do you mean, so!? If it lives underground, and can stay here, that means it can probably dig through the ground! Meaning I will get to the surface easily!’

In his excitement, the sense of exhaustion faded from hid body as he shot forward. He even went as far as using mana to reinforce his legs using his martial art, allowing him to cross more distance per step.

’ Finally, I can get out of this shitty underground space —’

1000 meters had turned into 500. Terrain was rapidly flashing past Magnus, his dynamic vision barely keeping up with the things he saw.

Soon, the tunnel widened, its circular walls expanding until a vast room came into view. Slowing down his pace, a crunching sound came from up ahead.

’I have a bad feeling about this one...’

A message window seemed to flicker before him for a split second.

He stepped out of the tunnel, and his breath was taken away by the scenery unfolding before him.

He had come out of one of the countless tunnels that led into a large spherical room, roughly positioned in the middle heigh wise.

The entirety of the room was a deep blue color, having been seemingly coated in an unknown substance. Specks of light shone occasionally, turning out to be the same species of glowing mushrooms he encountered when he fought the reincarnated shaman.

’How beautiful... Except for those things.’

His eyes were now firmly locked onto the closest thing he saw moving about.

’Is that... A pumpkin? But an evil glowing magical pumpkin?’

A spherical shape that floated mid air. 8 lines of blue light shone on its sides, connecting the top and the bottom of it. Worse still, he saw something vaguely moving about inside of the pumpkin, hiding behind the blue light.

There were hundreds of such pumpkins, and in the middle of the room stood an even bigger one.

’Though unlike the others, this one is covered in some sort of runes. Maybe I should try to contro—’

His body froze, and every hair stood up instinctively. His heart pounded like crazy and cold sweat began trickling down his back.

His very thoughts came to a standstill.

’ SPoo...tted...’

One of the smaller pumpkins had turned to face him. Though it looked the same from all sides, he knew it was gazing at him. More of them began to look towards him, the pounding in his ears becoming louder.

’Ple... See...’

Finally, a gaze much different than the others settled on him. Though the previous ones caused his body to freeze due to their malice, this one looked at him with curiosity.

The being in the middle began to move towards him, the edges of the rune covered being slowly trembling.

Another vibration, and light began to shine from its top as it began opening. Pure and radiant, the entire cave was instantly lit up by the light.

Magnus heart nearly stopped, an even bigger sense of crisis overwhelming him.

A pitch black system window appeared.

[IDIOT! ALL STATS, WILLPOWER!]

The dark energy in his brain suddenly moved about, rapidly dissipating under the influence of the light yet providing a brief respite. His blurry thoughts cleared for a moment and formed a coherent sentence—

’all... Stats... Will...’

A light shone from his eyes as his willpower stat increased, breaking past an invisible barrier.

He didn’t think anymore, he couldn’t—

He turned around, letting his legs carry him as fast as he could. He began to use mana to strengthen his body, his speed skyrocketing.

KIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

A thunderous screech shook the cavern, yet Magnus didn’t dare to look back. The light still shone from behind him, yet his instincts kept screaming at him not to stop.

’IF I TURN AROUND, I’M DEAD!’

His foot stomped on the ground, shattering a rock effortlessly—

His hand shot into the wall, causing a collapse—

He turned and turned, trying to hide from the light coming from behind—

Even with the screeching and the endless rumbling coming from behind him, Magnus saw the light becoming fainter the more he kept running.

30 minutes later, he collapsed to the ground, surrounded in utter darkness. Darkness that gave him a sense of comfort.

He couldn’t feel his legs or arms, and he simply sat there in silence, only an occasional gasp escaping his lips.

’What the fuck... Was that...’

[A prison.]

’A prison for what?’

[One of my own.]
