Chapter 162: Ares Gu’s Fate (2)

While this was going on, the man who had ruined Elise’s reputation had left the mansion that late afternoon after receiving a reprimand from his elders. He believed they had finally cornered Adrienne Jiang last night, but this morning, Adrienne thwarted their seemingly foolproof plan.

Although he was disgruntled that Adrienne had escaped from his clutches, he didn’t have the guts to go after her this time. However, thinking about it, Elise Jiang wasn’t bad herself. She had truly satisfied his needs last night.

As he left the estate, Ares Gu had no idea that he had offended someone he could not afford to, and his family was leading to its downfall because of him.

The night was alive with pulsating beats and neon lights as clubgoers engulfed the entire dance floor. Bodies moved in synchrony, lost in the rhythm, casting their troubles aside for temporary fun. The air was heavy with the scent of alcohol and cigarettes when Ares Gu arrived at his usual spot in the club.

The bar beckoned him, its array of drinks designed to lure its customers further into their drunken haze. With an insatiable thirst for alcohol, Ares ordered one concoction after another, losing himself in a swirling cascade of alcohol.

Among the crowd, a group of mysterious men arrived together. Their dark suits and intense expressions set them apart from the revelers, their eyes darting around the club as if searching for someone—or something.

Intoxication clouded Ares’s senses, rendering him oblivious to several pairs of eyes watching him from afar like a kettle of hawks, waiting for their prey to lower its guard.

As Ares downed his final drink, a foreboding presence began to move towards him. Shadows danced and swirled, intertwining with the club’s fervent energy. The music grew louder, reverberating through his intoxicated mind.

The lights flickered and dimmed constantly, shrouding the club in a frenzy. People danced and mingled, their laughter reaching Ares’s ears. Sensing the need to use the washroom, Ares slid off his bar stool, intending to leave his spot for a moment. He relieved himself at the washroom and washed his hands in the sink when two masked men appeared behind him.

Alarm bells rang in his mind. A sense of dread washed through him as Ares looked at their reflection in the massive mirror before them. Before he could react, one of the men covered his mouth with a white handkerchief. Ares struggled to break free, but because of his drunken state, his attempts were futile, and he eventually lost his consciousness.

Ares didn’t know how long he’d been out, but the moment he opened his eyes, he couldn’t recognize his surroundings. The emptiness of the room only magnified the intensity of his apprehension. The walls seemed to close in on him, suffocating him in an atmosphere of doom.

Fear gripped his heart. He had a bad feeling about this. Those men had kidnapped him for a reason, and for sure, they knew his identity and the family backing him. He wasn’t tied up, but he felt too weak and was unable to move an inch from the cold floor.

The room he was in had no windows, and the walls were unpainted and gray. A single flickering bulb provided dim lighting, and it appeared to be stationary in time. The heavy steel door suddenly opened with a creak, and men in black suits entered.

Ares’s arrogance faded into a profound sense of helplessness. It was a stark contrast to the power he once held over the women he had preyed upon. Unbeknownst to him, his attempt to acquire Adrienne Jiang by devious means ultimately led him to this situation.

Suddenly, a voice broke the stillness in the room. The man’s voice was resonating with an edge of fury.

"I still don’t know why you are here."

The voice belonged to a man seated in a wheelchair. The soft glow of a flickering overhead lightbulb had previously hidden his face in darkness. Beside him, another man stood with an impassive expression on his face.

One of the men in suits stepped forward and forced Ares into a seated position on the floor.

Ares opened his mouth but found himself unable to utter a single word. The men before him were Lennox Qin and Gavin Si, but why did these two kidnap him? The media claimed that Lennox Qin was invalid and had lost his mind due to the accident, but Ares couldn’t comprehend why Gavin was involved with this.

Locked in a desperate situation, Ares asked, "What do you want from me? Aren’t you afraid to get the ire of the Gu family?"

Lennox let out a sinister laugh. Adrienne’s scheme only centered on the Jiang family, but that didn’t mean Lennox was willing to let off the Gu family at all.

"You thought you could escape the consequences of your actions, but tonight, I will let you experience the horrors you’ve inflicted upon others." Lennox’s words sounded ominous.

Ares’s mind raced, desperation taking hold of him. Lennox’s words pierced his consciousness, forcing him to confront the truth. Through his actions, he had shattered so many lives, creating a trail of suffering. Tonight, the tables had turned, and Ares found himself at the mercy of his captor, a man driven by revenge and fueled by love.

"Why are you doing this, Mr. Qin? I never dared to offend you!"

His body trembled, both from fear and the damp chill that permeated the room.

"Do you?" Lennox’s obsidian eyes settled on Ares. His gaze, penetrating Ares’ soul, was wrought with an unyielding rage.

"When you attempt to lay a hand on my woman, you have set the nail in the coffin. Do you really think I will turn a blind eye and pretend you didn’t lust after my Adrienne?"

Ares felt a wave of realization wash over him, understanding the depth of Lennox’s anger. He never knew that Lennox was a man who would stop at nothing to protect the woman he loved.

He stared at Lennox in horror. So it was because of Adrienne Jiang!
