Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 165: A Man Worthy of Your Love (1)
Adrienne suddenly fell silent, much to Lennox’s surprise. He wondered if she disapproved of his actions toward Ares Gu. However, he knew that if he let Ares Gu off, the man might try to harm her again, which didn’t sit well with him the first time.
Lennox cleared his throat, breaking the awkward silence between them. Adrienne didn’t say a word but looked down at her lap, fidgeting with her fingers.
He could sense Adrienne’s internal struggle, realizing that her silence was likely a result of conflicting emotions. He gently reached out and gently touched her shoulder, silently conveying his understanding and support.
Lennox couldn’t bear the silence any longer and said, "Addie, I did what I had to do to protect you; I couldn’t let Ares Gu harm you again. Do you hate me now?"
Adrienne looked up at him with a glint of worry in her eyes.
"Of course not. I know, Len. I just... I can’t shake the feeling that there could have been another way to deal with him. I don’t want your hands to be tainted with blood because of me."
Lennox took a deep breath, feeling a bit guilty about his actions. Perhaps sending Ares to a male brothel was too much, but at that time, he wanted to teach the man a lesson. Sometimes, one needs to experience what they bring to each other to realize their mistakes. Also, he never wanted to hurt anyone, but he couldn’t stand by and watch as someone he cared about was exposed to danger.
"I know you’re upset, Addie. But you must understand that sometimes we must make tough decisions to protect the ones we love. I’m sure you understand, as you’re also willing to spare your brother from your family’s scheming."
Adrienne then wondered what Lennox would think of her if Ares succeeded and defiled her that night instead of Elise. Would he still want her despite it, or would he forsake her because of it?
She couldn’t help but feel a pang of uncertainty, questioning whether Lennox’s love for her would remain unwavering even in the face of such a horrifying outcome. She couldn’t shake off the fear that her worth in his eyes would be tarnished forever if Ares carried out his sinister plan. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
It wasn’t like she had fallen in love with him, but she would be lying if she said she didn’t feel anything towards Lennox.
"Len, would you still want me if he succeeded that night?" She voiced her concerns.
Lennox stared at her for a long moment, making her heart skip a beat.
"I would love you still, Addie. Do you think I will leave you because another man took your first?"
Lennox’s voice was filled with sincerity and determination as he reassured her. Addie could see the unwavering love in his eyes, which gave her a glimmer of hope amidst her fears.
Adrienne shook her head. She didn’t perceive Lennox like that. Instead, she saw him as a pillar of strength and loyalty, someone who would always be by her side no matter what challenges they faced. Lennox’s words only solidified her trust in him, making her feel grateful to have him in her life.
"No, but-"
"There’s no but," Lennox said. "You’re mine; I’m yours, and nothing could change that. If you will allow me, Addie, I want to become a man worthy of your love."
Adrienne had to bite back on the words she had yet to say. She didn’t mean to make Lennox hurt with her question. It wasn’t as if she wanted to make him insecure about his place in her heart; she was just curious. She just wanted to know how Lennox would think if the scenario turned out differently than what they had.
"Don’t worry, Addie. My heart is yours alone. My feelings would never waver for any reason, nor would they ever waver for anyone." Lennox continued.
He then leaned forward, shortening the distance between them, and kissed her forehead. It held no passion, nor did it hold any lust. It was just a simple kiss of assurance.
Adrienne slightly blushed at his sudden show of affection.
"Thank you," she whispered softly. Her voice trembled with a mix of gratitude and vulnerability. The weight of Lennox’s words and the tenderness of his gesture reassured her that she was safe in his presence, allowing her to let go of any lingering doubts or fears.
"You already know the answer. You have since asked the question. I will love you unconditionally, no matter what happens in the future. If ever my feelings changed in the future, I know that I would love you even more."
Lennox’s words enveloped her like a warm embrace, filling her heart with a sense of security and certainty. At that moment, she realized that their connection went beyond mere words or gestures; it was a deep bond that would withstand the test of time.
Adrienne never thought she would be able to meet someone like him in this lifetime. When she was reborn, she hardened her heart and built walls around it to avoid loving the wrong person again. But Lennox had effortlessly shattered those walls, reminding her it was worth taking the risk to love and be loved. With him, she felt safe enough to consider letting go of her past and embracing a future filled with unconditional love and happiness.
However, her deep-seated hatred for the Jiang family remained. Adrienne knew that as long as she and the Jiang family lived under the same sky, she would never be able to live at peace with Lennox and her family.
The wounds inflicted by the Jiang family were too deep for Adrienne to simply let go of her hatred. Despite her growing feelings for Lennox, she couldn’t help but feel conflicted about their future together. The constant reminder of the Jiang family’s presence made it difficult for her to fully embrace the love and future that Lennox offered.
