Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 170: The Gu Family’s Demise (2)
Law enforcement authorities were summoned at once to investigate the crime scene, hoping to unravel the truth behind Ares Gu’s untimely demise. Media outlets caught wind of the shocking event, and the news of Ares Gu’s death was immediately known to the public.
Whispers quickly filled the air as everyone tried to make sense of what had transpired. Speculations ranged from a brutal murder to a sinister plot, pointing fingers at those Ares Gu had offended. The Gu family, already embroiled in legal troubles, now found themselves thrust into a deeper abyss of tragedy.
Ares’s lifeless body was filled with bruises, and the news disclosed that the cause of his death was strangulation. They also confirmed that he was sexually abused before his death. Such a ruthless and brutal means of killing split the people’s opinion. Some claimed Ares Gu deserved it, for he was a notorious sex offender who had harmed several women before, while others believed he should have undergone a proper trial to pay for his crimes.
The police had already appointed people to investigate, but they were still looking for leads to follow. Ares Gu was a tyrant. He used his status and family to oppress others and ruin countless lives. He had long since been subject to scrutiny by others.
When the news of his demise reached the ears of his victims, they celebrated with joy and tears. Finally Ares Gu faced the consequences of his actions and paid dearly with his life. However, because the Gu and the Jiang family had recently been at odds, the Jiang family became the prime suspect in the speculations.
Marion Gu, the sole survivor of the Gu family’s demise, met Adrienne one rainy afternoon. She was wearing a disguise to prevent anyone from recognizing her as a member of the Gu family.
"Here are the deeds under your name." Adrienne handed Marion a manila envelope containing important documents. "Those properties are safe from the authorities as they weren’t declared as part of the ill-gotten wealth the Gu family acquired."
Marion stared at the young woman before her and looked at the envelope on the table before them. She was now free from the clutches of the abusive Gu family, but she didn’t expect that Adrienne would also help her receive her inheritance.
Curiosity piqued, Marion looked up at Adrienne, her eyes filled with gratitude.
"How did you manage to keep these properties hidden?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity.
Adrienne smiled with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Let’s just say I have certain connections in high places," she answered. "But don’t worry, Miss Gu. These properties are completely legal and won’t raise any red flags. Consider this as compensation for what the Gu family owes you."
Marion couldn’t help but feel a surge of admiration for Adrienne. Not only had Adrienne kept her word and saved her, but she had also gone above and beyond to ensure that her inheritance remained protected. It was a kindness that Marion would never forget.
As the rain continued to pour outside, Marion couldn’t help but think about the future that awaited her. She could rebuild her life from scratch with her newfound freedom and the resources she now possessed. No longer bound by the Gu family’s dark legacy, she could create a future filled with hope and happiness.
Then a thought crossed her mind, and she couldn’t help but ask Adrienne.
"My brother’s death... are you..." Adrienne, however, stopped her mid-sentence.
"No. I didn’t have anything to do with it. If you’re worried you’ll be implicated, you wouldn’t. Your brother’s sins have nothing to do with you either."
Marion was relieved when she heard Adrienne’s answer. It was a bittersweet moment for her, knowing that her freedom came at the cost of the Gu family’s demise. But she couldn’t dwell on the past. She had to focus on the future and make the most of the opportunity before her.
"Thank you, Miss Jiang," Marion said with sincerity. "I can’t express how grateful I am for your help. You have no idea how much this means to me. You’ve given me a chance to start over, and I won’t let it go to waste.
Adrienne nodded. Her usually cold eyes had a hint of warmth in them.
"You deserve this, Miss Gu. You’ve been through so much, and it’s time for you to reclaim your life. Use your inheritance wisely, and remember that you’re not alone anymore. If you need help, you know how to reach me."
Those words resonated deeply with Marion. She met someone she could rely on for help for the first time in a long while. She nodded her head as tears welled up in her eyes.
After meeting with Marion Gu, Adrienne went to Jinxiu Garden with her brother. Hunter’s attention was immediately taken by Noah, who insisted that his ’Uncle Hunter’ should play with him too.
Adrienne smiled at the scene before deciding to see Lennox in his study. Now that her college entrance examination was over, their studying sessions had returned to normal. She found her fiance speaking with someone over the phone.
Lennox immediately bid goodbye to the other line once he noticed her arrival. He waited for Adrienne to push his wheelchair, and she helped him move to the couch, where he could comfortably sit.
"How was your meeting with Miss Gu?" Lennox asked after she settled him down on the couch.
"It’s fine. Everything went well. And you?"
Lennox sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"Just some work stuff," he replied, his tone tinged with exhaustion. "It seemed Gavin wanted to bury me alive with more paperwork he’d sent me these days. He knows I despise it."
Adrienne sat next to him and eyed the slice of cake and a newly brewed cup of tea before them. Lennox always feeds her every time she drops by to visit Jinxiu Garden. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"You’ve been working so hard, Len, but remember to take breaks and care for yourself too." She reminded him.
"A pity I cannot marry you right now. You are the only one who can make me feel better." Lennox grinned at her.
Despite her best efforts not to laugh at his antics, Adrienne found herself moved by his sincere enthusiasm to marry her.
