Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 431: Rewrite the Stars (1)
Watching Adrienne break into tears, Lennox felt his heart ache for her. He wished he could take all the pain away. This wasn’t the reunion he expected once Adrienne regained consciousness. He was hoping for joy and relief, not this overwhelming sorrow.
Adrienne’s scream was heard within their manor. It awakened Rosemary and Hunter, who were staying in the other rooms on the same floor. Hunter opened the door without hesitation and rushed toward the source of the scream, his heart pounding with fear.
"Addie? What happened?" Hunter exclaimed, desperately searching for answers. What could possibly happen for his sister to scream in the middle of the night?
"I’m not the cursed child. Why won’t you believe me?" Adrienne pleaded, tears streaming down her face.
He and his mother found his sister curled on the bed, her entire body trembling in fear, while Lennox sat next to her, looking equally frightened and concerned.
"What happened to Addie?" Hunter asked, his voice filled with worry and confusion. He couldn’t understand why his sister had suddenly lost her mind. She acted completely out of character, like a child crying out for help.
Lennox tried to touch her shoulder, but Adrienne suddenly pounced on him, hitting him with all her strength. He stumbled back, stunned by the force of her attack.
"Addie..." Her husband looked at her with a pain-stricken face. "Addie," he pleaded, desperately searching for the woman he once knew.
"Please don’t hurt me anymore. I’m wrong. I’m wrong..." Adrienne kept mumbling to herself. "Please bring my mom back, I beg you."
Hunter was stunned in place while their mother covered her mouth in shock. Looking at his sister, he was reminded of those who suffered trauma and never fully recovered. What could have triggered Adrienne to act like this?
"Mom. Mom... mom..." Adrienne clung to her husband tightly, her tears streaming down her face as she whispered, "Give her back. Give her back..."
Rosemary couldn’t contain her tears anymore and embraced her daughter. She had never seen her daughter this terrified before. Adrienne was timid when she was younger, and after Rosemary woke up from a coma, she found her daughter strong-willed and confident, something Rosemary had always hoped for. But now, seeing her daughter so broken and desperate, Rosemary couldn’t help but wonder what had caused this sudden change in Adrienne’s behavior.
"Addie, Mom is here. Mom is here. Tell me what’s wrong, Addie." She begged her daughter, hoping to uncover the truth and offer some comfort.
Still, her daughter remained silent, her eyes filled with pain and sadness. Adrienne couldn’t recognize her either, and she’d looked at her as if she were someone else.
"Should we call the doctor?" She asked Lennox, who still had yet to speak since they arrived. He looked as if he was lost in his own thoughts.
"I’ll do it." Hunter made up his mind. He called the doctor and explained the situation.
An hour later, the Zhao family doctor arrived and gave Adrienne a thorough examination and medicines to calm her down. The doctor assured Hunter that Adrienne would be fine with some rest and prescribed her medication to help her relax. However, he couldn’t pinpoint the reason why she acted so anxious.
"Thankfully, her stab wound didn’t open. It was healing just fine, but I suggest seeking an expert to see if any underlying psychological issues are causing her anxiety and memory loss." The old doctor said. He’d been attending to the Zhao family for years and knew how to keep the family secrets buried deep. He knew that addressing the underlying psychological issues was crucial for her overall well-being.
He glanced at Adrienne, who was sleeping on her mother’s lap, pale and gaunt.
"The incident with her father must have triggered all the emotions and fear Miss Addie tried to bury deep inside to resurface. Medicine could help her, but facing her inner demons would free Miss Addie from the shackles of her past and allow her to heal truly."
He might be a medical practitioner, but he knew there were things that medicine alone couldn’t fix, and it included the deep-rooted emotional wounds that Adrienne carried.
"Thank you for coming, Dr. Lan," Rosemary said as she held her daughter, running her fingers on Adrienne’s long hair as she slept. "I’m sorry for troubling you to come in such ungodly hours."
"You don’t need to apologize, Miss Rose. I can’t possibly ignore your call for help when I know it was an emergency." The old doctor said before bidding goodbye, leaving Rosemary and Hunter grateful for his kindness and expertise.
Hunter glanced at his brother-in-law, visibly startled by Adrienne’s sudden outburst. Adrienne couldn’t recognize anyone, and that included Lennox.
"Get a grip on yourself," Hunter muttered under his breath, frustrated by Adrienne’s deteriorating condition. "Addie needs us now, more than ever. You need to be strong for both of you ."
Lennox sat on an armchair near the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the darkened city skyline. He then held his head in his hands, feeling overwhelmed with worry and sadness.
He knew Hunter had a point, but how could he help Adrienne if she was dealing with something beyond his control? He couldn’t shake the feeling of helplessness. He couldn’t bear to see her suffer like this.
"Mom..." Adrienne continued to cry in her sleep, her voice filled with anguish.
"She must have been terrified and felt alone when I got involved in a car accident." Rosemary’s heart ached as she listened to her daughter’s distress. She wished she could take away Adrienne’s pain and make everything better.
"With how the Jiang family treated her, I’m surprised Addie was able to stay strong and keep going," Hunter commented as he looked at his sister.
Hearing Adrienne’s seemingly nonsense words, Hunter couldn’t help but wonder if his sister also returned in time, just like him. He tried to recall any strange occurrences or memories that could confirm his suspicion, but Hunter wasn’t sure what to look for because he never met Adrienne in his past life.
He knew for certain that their mother had died in his previous life, and it must have been devastating for Adrienne to be left on her own. He couldn’t imagine the pain she’d been through. He clenched his fist on his side, regretting being unable to be there for her. He wished he could have comforted and helped her through such a difficult time.
