Chapter 470: I Would Rather Die Than Be With You (2)

Adrienne fought back the urge to lunge at him, knowing it would only give him the satisfaction he desired. She had to stay composed and find a way to protect Lennox without succumbing to Alistair’s manipulations.

"What do you want from me?" she asked, her voice steady but laced with an underlying determination.

Alistair took a step closer, his gaze piercing through her defenses.

"I want you to leave Lennox," he said calmly. "Come back to me, Adrienne. You know we were destined to be together."

At that moment, all their memories flooded into Adrienne’s mind. The years she had spent trapped in a marriage with Alistair—the manipulation and control that had suffocated her spirit. She had fought tooth and nail to escape his clutches and find happiness with Lennox.

Alistair’s smile widened, the darkness in his eyes intensifying, seeing her distraught.

"You underestimate the lengths I am willing to go, Adrienne. Lennox may not be directly involved in our affairs, but that doesn’t mean he won’t suffer the consequences of taking you away from me."

Adrienne felt a surge of anger course through her veins. She had always known Alistair to be a dangerous man, but she hadn’t comprehended the extent of his ruthlessness until now. She had hoped that she could escape the clutches of his influence by leaving him and starting anew with Lennox. But Alistair’s words made it clear that he would stop at nothing to regain control over her life. Adrienne knew she had to protect Lennox, no matter the cost.

Adrienne laughed coldly.

"And you think my husband is a weak person? You couldn’t defeat him for the past few years. What makes you think this time would be different?"

A flicker of anger flashed across Alistair’s face as he took a menacing step forward. Adrienne braced herself for whatever he would throw her way.

"You underestimate me, Adrienne," he sneered, his voice dripping with venom. "I’ve always known how to get what I want, and this time will be no different."

"You’re mistaken if you think I will love you even if you manage to break me and Lennox apart."

Alistair’s façade of composure wavered for a split second, a flicker of anger crossing his face before he regained control. His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper.

"You should know better, Adrienne," he sneered. "No one defies me and gets away unscathed. Isn’t this why you came here on your own volition? If Lennox Qin is as strong as you claimed him to be, why are you here?"

"I can’t believe you will hurt Myrtle just to lure me out! She’s your sister!"

Adrienne couldn’t contain her anger any longer. When she remembered the trauma Myrtle suffered that morning, her hands clenched into fists.

"That woman isn’t my sister." Alistair retorted. "I never had a sister."

Adrienne held her ground, refusing to let Alistair’s words penetrate her resolve. She knew she had to gather her strength and devise a plan, not just for her safety but for Lennox’s. She took a deep breath, steadying herself before responding.

"I came here because I know how far you’re willing to go," she said, her voice steady despite the tremor in her heart. "I’m here now, so you better keep your word."

Her heart pounded as Alistair’s words hit her with a gut-wrenching truth. She had come to Alistair’s lair alone, believing she could outsmart him and protect Lennox from his wrath. But now, standing there face to face with the man who had terrorized her for years, doubt clouded her mind.

Alistair’s eyes narrowed, his lips twisting into a cruel smile. "Oh, Adrienne," he mocked. "You always did have a flair for the dramatic. But mark my words, your defiance will be your downfall. You would have no other choice but to divorce Lennox Qin."

Adrienne stood tall, refusing to show any signs of fear. She knew that Alistair thrived on control and manipulation, and she was determined not to give him satisfaction this time. She had escaped his clutches once and would do it again, no matter what it took.

"You underestimate me too, Alistair," she replied with defiance burning in her eyes.

Alistair’s expression hardened, his dark gaze turning icy as he took another step closer. Adrienne could feel his presence suffocating her, but she refused to back down.

"You cannot escape me," he hissed through clenched teeth. "You belong to me."

Adrienne could see no reason for him to change his mind. He was looking at her like a predator closing in on its prey. The room suddenly felt smaller, suffocatingly claustrophobic as he taunted her.

"You see, Adrienne," he murmured, his voice laced with malice, "you are weak. You could never resist the pull I have over you. And poor Lennox, he will suffer for your mistakes. Do you think you can escape from me by marrying him?"

Adrienne’s hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her palms. This was the Alistair Han she knew. It didn’t matter what kind of lifetime she lived; this man remained the same. She glared at him, feeling pathetic at the same time.

"Mr. Han, I don’t know why you are obsessed with me. I also remembered turning you down for a reason. I married Lennox because I love him and would never regret choosing him."

Alistair’s eyes narrowed, his smug grin slipping slightly. His attempts to manipulate Adrienne failed, and he detested being out of control.

"Don’t delude yourself," he spat, his voice dripping with derision. "You came here willingly because you know deep down that you belong to me. Do you truly believe that you can outsmart me? That you can escape from my grasp?"

Adrienne squared her shoulders, meeting his gaze head-on. She then eyed the vase on her right.

"Lennox loves me for who I am, not for what you made of me. He has shown me a life I’ve always wanted, and I will protect that at all costs."

Alistair’s expression hardened, his patience wearing thin. His fingers twitched at his side, betraying his growing frustration. Without warning, Alistair lunged at her, his hand shooting out to grab her. But Adrienne sidestepped and broke the vase, picking up one of its sharp shards in her hand and stabbing him.

Alistair stumbled back, blood flowing from the wound on his arm as his eyes widened in shock. Adrienne then pointed the sharp shard against her smooth neck, threatening Alistair.

"What do you think you are doing?!" He shouted at her. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

She smiled. If there was something Alistair hated, it was for him not having control. He despised being placed in a situation where he had no say.

"Mr. Han, do you know I would rather die than spend a lifetime with you?"
