Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 113: Just Admit You Came to See Your Ex-Wife
Back in the office, Jonas Hawthorne didn’t do anything, just stared at those two messages for a long, long time.
In the end, he just replied with a single question mark.
Not a word more...
Of course, he didn’t know that Raine couldn’t even see his reply, because her phone was now completely lost to the sea outside the city.
Raine chased Mason Sullivan around for half an hour before the war finally ended.
It wasn’t because her anger subsided, but because she was simply out of strength.
Mason’s hair was a mess, like a bird’s nest, but he didn’t get mad. He just sat obediently next to her, looking like a puppy.
"Alright, Raine, don’t be mad! I was wrong, okay? I’ll help you organize all that data when we get back!"
"..." Raine didn’t say anything, not even wanting to look at him.
No matter how many deep breaths she took, she just couldn’t suppress the fire in her heart!
There were years’ worth of photos and videos on that phone.
A lot of them had never been uploaded to the cloud, and there were no backups.
Those were the last bits of her memories with Jonas Hawthorne...
She’d thought about deleting them after the divorce, but couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Thinking about it now, maybe everything had been predestined in some unseen way?
Maybe even the heavens couldn’t watch her hold on anymore, and had Mason destroy all those obsessions for her?
Whatever. It’s lost, so it’s lost. Sooner or later, she’d have to start her brand new life anyway. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Mason, seeing her stony face and unwillingness to talk, suddenly panicked, "Raine, I really know I was wrong! Don’t ignore me! Or else..."
Just as he said that, he suddenly jumped up, paced in circles, and was about to jump into the sea. "I’ll go get it for you!"
Raine originally thought he was joking, but the moment she turned she saw he was actually about to jump, so she quickly grabbed him. "Are you crazy? You’ll die if you jump in there!"
"Well, what else can I do? You won’t even talk to me..." Mason looked a little aggrieved.
He knew this was all his fault—couldn’t he have just kept his hands off her phone?!
When Raine saw his pitiful face, she couldn’t help but feel a little bad herself.
It was just a phone, really. She probably didn’t need to overreact so much.
Sighing to herself, Raine finally spoke, "Forget it. It’s been years anyway. Maybe it’s time for a new phone."
That old phone was one Jonas had bought for her.
So for all these years, she couldn’t bring herself to replace it...
Mason had no idea so many thoughts had flown through her mind in an instant. He just stared at her sudden relaxation, looking incredulous, head tilted, "You mean it? Really not mad anymore?"
"What, you wish I’d stay mad?" Raine shot him a look, rolled her eyes, and said, "Or do you really want to go dive for my phone?"
"I..." Mason opened his mouth, but all that bravado from before was instantly gone. He scratched his head and grinned, "Well, since you’re not mad anymore, why would I need to? Raine, are you hungry? Want me to grill you some fish?"
Raine, "...." What else could she say?
Seeing she didn’t respond, Mason quickly went to get barbecue supplies.
While those two were bickering, William Jennings had been sea fishing and caught a ton of fish. Time for a full fish banquet!
After Mason left, William Jennings walked over to Raine’s side and sighed, "Kid, Mason’s really a good one. I saw it clear as day—every little mood of yours, he picks up on. The second you’re mad, he gets all nervous. That’s someone who knows how to love a person!"
As a fellow man, William Jennings really understood what a man’s actions meant.
He wasn’t trying to force his granddaughter to pick anyone—he just wanted her to see clearly what kind of man is worth it.
Raine blinked and mumbled, "Really..."
"Find someone who loves you, who knows if you’re cold or warm. That’s pretty good." William Jennings said, hinting at something, "He’ll definitely treat you and your son well in the future, too!"
"Huh?" Raine touched her belly, surprised. "Grandpa, how do you know I’m having a son?"
She didn’t even know herself...
"It’s obvious! You look exactly like someone carrying a boy!" William Jennings left her with a mysterious smile!
Raine, "..."
——
The next morning, Raine got an apology gift from Mason Sullivan.
A giant desk was lined up with at least thirty different phones—different brands, colors, and styles. He basically got one of everything.
"See which one you like?" He sounded super proud of himself, his expression saying: I’m awesome, right? Praise me!
Raine clicked her tongue, "Any one would’ve been fine, why did you bring so many?"
Honestly, she hadn’t actually wanted him to replace it...
"How could I just pick randomly? What if you don’t like my choice!" Mason chuckled, nudging her, "Go on, pick one!"
Raine’s eye twitched a little. She glanced at the phone feast in front of her, then casually picked a white one.
Looked simple and clean—none of that over-the-top stuff.
"This one."
Just as she spoke, Easton Yancy walked in, "Ms. Sinclair, Mr. Keane and Mr. Hawthorne are here."
"Jonas Hawthorne?" Raine raised her eyebrows, puzzled. "Leo Keane’s here to sign the contract—why is Jonas here?"
"Um..." Even Easton Yancy didn’t know the specifics, so he didn’t know how to answer.
While he hesitated, Mason Sullivan tensed up like he was facing his greatest enemy!
Why the hell did Jonas Hawthorne show up too?
Could it be because of those two meme stickers he sent yesterday?
The second he thought he might have caused trouble, Mason grabbed his own stomach. "Owww!"
At his dramatic outburst, both Raine and Easton looked at him, totally confused.
Mason stammered, "I... I think my gastritis is acting up. Need to go home and rest, Ms. Sinclair—can I have the day off..."
Just seconds ago, he’d been grinning like an idiot, and now suddenly had stomach trouble? Raine was a little suspicious but still asked with concern, "Really? Should I take you to the hospital?"
"No, no! Just resting at home will do. I’ll head out now!" And with that, he bolted out of the office like he was running a hundred-meter dash!
Raine and Easton stared at each other. Was that really how someone with gastritis would run?
Obviously, the guy was just looking for an excuse to skip work!
Raine pinched her brow in exasperation, then said helplessly, "Put these phones away and let Leo Keane come in."
"Yes, ma’am." Easton nodded and went to collect the phones.
Soon enough, Leo and Jonas Hawthorne walked into Raine’s office together.
As they walked in, Leo kept shooting annoyed glances at the man insisting on tagging along...
He was here to sign a contract, but Jonas insisted on coming to ’look over it’ for him...
What a ridiculous excuse.
As if Leo couldn’t read a contract himself?
If you want to see your ex-wife, just say so instead of making it all so extra.
Men. Hmph!
