Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 160: Never Going Back to the Way Things Were
Lily Sinclair had no choice but to get out of the car.
But she didn’t go in.
She just stood silently in front of the Sinclair Family’s old residence for a long time.
In the darkness of the distance, Winston Clayton followed her over.
He crossed his arms, leaning slantingly against a tree, the wide brim of his baseball cap pulled low to cover his face.
He glanced at the woman standing in the darkness, his thoughts a whirlwind.
Once, he too had felt such hesitance and struggle.
Looking at Lily Sinclair at this moment was like reliving the past...
Some memories, even after a long time, just cannot be forgotten.
Lily Sinclair didn’t realize someone was following her, or perhaps she didn’t care.
As she stood there, a light drizzle began to fall from the sky.
As autumn began to set in, the rain became more frequent.
She let the fine rain brush past her hair, her cheeks...
Lily Sinclair didn’t take cover, she just stood firmly like that.
Suddenly, she recalled the memories of wearing pink rain boots and running around in the rain with her cousin as a child.
They were so young, they couldn’t resist jumping into puddles on the ground.
After the splashing sounds, they would laugh for a good long while at the sight of the water spraying around...
Those were happy times back then, carefree and free of worries.
No one had imagined there would be so many things to deal with upon growing up.
Now wanting to return to those days is impossible...
The rain poured down harder and harder.
It wasn’t until Mama Chambers, who was on the night watch, came out to check if the newly transplanted flowers by the gate were getting soaked, that she discovered Lily Sinclair standing at the gate getting drenched.
"Second Miss?"
Mama Chambers called out tentatively, looked carefully, and hurriedly asked the security to open the gate after confirming it was Lily Sinclair.
She quickly supported Lily Sinclair to walk inside, "Oh my heavens! Second Miss, why are you standing in the rain? Quick, come inside! You’ll catch a cold!"
At this moment, Lily Sinclair was stiff all over.
She couldn’t remember how she got inside the Sinclair house, just that Mama Chambers gave her a hot bath and prepared ginger tea for her.
"Second Miss, don’t mind the taste, drink it up, and have a good sleep. By tomorrow morning, you’ll be full of energy again!" Mama Chambers said confidently as she helped dry her hair, "That’s how I take care of the eldest Miss every time she gets caught in the rain, you know she rarely catches a cold."
Upon hearing this, Lily Sinclair’s brow furrowed slightly, "Where’s my sister?"
"The eldest Miss went to bed early. Being pregnant makes her easily tired, and after talking with the master for a long time last night, I imagine she’s really exhausted." Mama Chambers said with a smile.
In the past, the eldest Miss often had insomnia, tossing and turning all night.
Now that she’s pregnant, things seem much better, not sure if she’s tired or if her mood has improved, but many times she falls asleep as soon as she hits the bed.
Lily Sinclair recalled how her cousin has been struggling a lot since becoming pregnant, not just that, she’s also bought a lot of clothes and items for the baby...
If something happened to this child... what would become of her cousin? 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Seeing that the second Miss was quiet, Mama Chambers added, "Second Miss, drink the ginger tea and rest early."
With that, she quietly left the room.
After a long while, Lily Sinclair turned her head to look at the purse on the bedside table.
The medicine inside hadn’t gotten wet at all.
She couldn’t help but wish, if only that rain had been a little heavier.
If only it had washed away that medicine...
——
The next day.
When Raine Sinclair woke up, the rain outside hadn’t stopped.
Stretching lazily, she suddenly noticed a chill in the air.
Mama Chambers knocked and entered to bring her a heavier coat.
"It’s getting colder day by day; you should wear more layers, Eldest Miss."
Raine Sinclair rubbed her sleepy eyes and replied with a smile, "Okay, I understand."
Mama Chambers had watched her grow up, and for years, whether it was getting hot or cold, she never let her forget these reminders.
"Hurry and get dressed and come downstairs. The second Miss came last night. She looks worried, probably wants to discuss something with you!" Mama Chambers added.
Raine Sinclair raised her eyebrows in surprise, "Lily came? Why didn’t you wake me?"
"It was too late, and I assumed she was tired." Mama Chambers explained, urging once more, "Come on, Eldest Miss, get dressed and keep warm!"
Forcing herself awake, Raine Sinclair threw on her coat and headed downstairs.
She didn’t see anyone in the living room, but when she turned around, she found Lily Sinclair already sitting by the dining table.
Her grandfather and mother hadn’t returned the previous night, and her father had left early in the morning.
So, it was just the two sisters in the house.
The breakfast spread was quite generous, offering both Western and Asian dishes.
Lily Sinclair chose milk and a sandwich, but didn’t take a bite, her gaze was somewhat vacant as she stared at the century egg and lean meat porridge in front of her, lost in thought.
"Lily?" Raine Sinclair walked over quickly, "Mama Chambers told me you came last night? Do you need to talk?"
This girl, she hadn’t been in touch much lately; the few messages sent were cryptic.
Her coming over was a rare occurrence.
Hearing this, Lily Sinclair finally came to her senses, "No...it’s nothing."
She dared not meet Raine Sinclair’s gaze, and instead looked down, starting to stuff the sandwich into her mouth.
Raine Sinclair keenly noticed her odd behavior, her eyes filled with curiosity, "What have you been busy with lately? Easton mentioned you’ve been leaving work early; is something wrong at home?"
"No." Lily Sinclair shook her head, certainly unable to divulge what she’d been experiencing lately.
Even she hadn’t imagined such dramatic events would happen to someone like her?
Yet magically, it all... really happened.
Seeing her siblings clearly out of sorts, undeclared concerns filling her eyes with worry.
Noticing this, Mama Chambers approached and guided Raine Sinclair to sit down, gesturing toward the century egg and lean meat porridge in front of them, "Eldest Miss, please eat something? Didn’t you say you wanted my porridge yesterday? Try it; it’s delicious! I added extra meat just for you!"
At Mama Chambers’ words, Raine Sinclair glanced at the rich porridge in front of her. Indeed, It was packed full of ingredients!
Ever since becoming pregnant, her taste buds had been ever-changing!
Either she didn’t feel like eating, or she’d eat only vegetables, or she’d be craving meat!
Never before had she imagined pregnancy could be such a trying ordeal!
"It smells amazing." Raine Sinclair marveled, picking up a spoon to stir the porridge for a taste.
But just as she was about to take a bite, Lily Sinclair stopped her!
"Hold on!"
"..." Raine Sinclair paused, looking at her in confusion, "What is it?"
"I..." Lily Sinclair opened her mouth, suddenly unsure of what to say, her eyes darting nervously.
