Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 186: I’m Helping You
Raine Sinclair followed his gaze, her eyebrows furrowing instantly, and asked in confusion, "Sean, I don’t understand, why do you constantly help Jonas Hawthorne?"
"I’m not helping him." John Franklin replied naturally.
Raine was even more astonished, "What do you mean?"
"I’m helping you."
This left Raine dumbfounded...
Before she could laugh, John continued, "Grandfather hasn’t left yet, right? And neither brother has shown up yet, right? The eldest brother is dealing with the Hawthorne Group, but the third brother is different."
Just mentioning the third brother stopped Raine’s breath!
"The third brother... the third brother is here too?!" She even stuttered a bit!
"He should be about to act." John nodded.
"What is he going to do?" Raine quickly stood up and grabbed John’s sleeve, "Sean, what other plans do you guys have? I’ve already let go, why do you still need to trouble Jonas Hawthorne? I’ll go talk to Grandfather..."
As she spoke, Raine turned and walked toward the door!
But just as she stepped out, Sean’s slow voice reached her from behind.
"Raine, didn’t Jonas take your blood before? And it was while you were pregnant."
The volume wasn’t high, but it instantly stopped Raine in her tracks.
She swiftly turned and squinted at John.
"How did you know, Sean?"
"Your medical records were easily accessible," John said, raising his head to look at her, "Raine, I really didn’t expect that for Jonas, you’d joke with your life and the child in your womb. Do you realize if the rescue equipment was inadequate, or if there weren’t enough personnel, your life could have been lost that day!"
At the last sentence, John’s tone finally showed some fluctuation!
This girl hid it well, none of the family knew!
If he hadn’t specifically checked the medical records, he wouldn’t have known at all!
"..." Raine’s throat felt dry under questioning; after a long while, she sighed, "Sean, it’s all in the past. Moreover, I’m fine now, aren’t I? I promise you, I won’t do it again."
"Your promise to me is of no use. The third brother already knows about it. What he will do, I cannot say." John replied calmly.
"Why did you tell the third brother? He’s a martial arts champion, if he really goes after Jonas..." Raine’s heart suddenly grew uneasy as she clung to John’s arm, feigning innocence, "Sean, think of a way! I don’t want to owe Jonas anything! We’re already separated, why make me owe him more?"
Without a change in expression, John withdrew his hand, "We’re seeking justice for you. What do you mean by owe? It should be he who owes you!"
"But..."
"If you’re so afraid that Jonas might die at the hands of the third brother, then stick with Jonas," John suddenly suggested.
Raine was taken aback, "Stick with him?"
"With you around, the third brother definitely won’t act." John explained.
Upon hearing this, Raine’s conflicted heart instantly felt relieved.
When she looked at her second brother again, her big round eyes squinted into a narrow line!
"Sean, why do you always put me and Jonas together? We’ve divorced! There’s no feeling left! Forced unions are never sweet!"
"Forced unions may not be sweet, but they’re satiating," John continued to smile, recalling the times when this girl would beam whenever she mentioned Jonas, and couldn’t resist teasing, "You used to tell me this. You said as long as you liked him, that’s enough. You didn’t care if the fruit was sweet or not, you just picked it anyway."
"I..." Raine embarrassingly opened her mouth, unable to admit that the forced union wasn’t just unsatiating, but bitter, almost costing her her life!
Just as the siblings were saying this, Jonas arrived at the door.
He lightly knocked on the door and walked in with a graceful stride, casually glancing at John, "Sean."
"Hm." John nodded.
Raine was immediately furious, "That’s my brother, why are you addressing him like that?!"
How could someone who’s divorced not have a sense of awareness at all?!
Jonas looked sideways at her, but didn’t argue.
Seeing this, John quickly comforted her, "Raine, don’t be so..."
"Hmph!" Raine ignored him and started walking towards the door.
Really wondering if second brother has taken some wrong medicine lately, always helping Jonas!
After Raine left, Jonas sighed quietly with a sense of loss.
John, however, was not worried at all, instead bringing up business with Jonas.
"The old lady’s condition has been very stable lately, the toxins have been cleared thoroughly, and no one has tried poisoning her again. How is your investigation going?"
"This batch of drugs is not limited to Sedonia, many areas in Vesperia have it too. It’s still under investigation." Jonas answered.
Although he discovered the relationship between Candace and Sean Ford, and found their financial transactions, he didn’t find any records related to nerve toxins.
"Try to be quick. If there’s another incident, I fear... the old lady won’t hold on." John conducted a thorough examination on Silas Linton, finding that although her life had been spared, her bodily functions had been compromised.
They definitely can’t compare to her previous health.
The words immediately intensified the atmosphere in the office.
Jonas’s eyebrows were tightly knit, his gazes deep as night.
Seeing this, John added, "But you don’t need to worry too much, I will do my best to help the old lady recover."
"Thanks." Jonas said, then stood up.
Watching him prepare to leave, John added, "Be careful lately, someone really tough is watching you."
Jonas paused slightly but didn’t question further, leaving the office.
He had just reached the hallway when he saw Raine leaning against the door, staring absentmindedly at the hurried pedestrians ahead.
"Raine? Haven’t you left yet?" Jonas asked, a hint of surprise in his deep, dark eyes.
Raine heard him, glanced at him briefly, but remained standing silently to the side without speaking much.
Seeing her avoid his gaze, Jonas smiled and asked, "Waiting for me?"
"Ahem!" Raine frowned irritably, "I’m just enjoying the view!"
If not for Sean’s words, she wouldn’t have possibly stayed to wait for him.
Really wondering where third brother might be hiding, ready to knock Jonas’ head open with a single punch!
Jonas noticed her words belied her true feelings but chose not to expose her. Instead, he said, "I’ll go get the car."
"No need, you can ride in my car." Raine ran her fingers through her hair and coolly looked towards the back, where a Bentley had stopped, coming towards her.
The driver got out, courteously opening the car door for her.
"Sure." Jonas smiled, and followed her into the car.
The driver, who hadn’t closed the car door yet, was completely stunned.
This... isn’t this the former son-in-law?
How did these two end up together? What’s going on?
