Chapter 41: 41. Baron Harvard [5].

Mira looked around and wondered where the fourth guard currently was because she was certain that the Baron had ordered four of his men to attack her.

She tried to turn around to check if the fourth guard had already grabbed Helen.

But before she could turn towards her back, the fourth guard swiftly hit her from behind, forcing her to fall to the ground.

The other three guards swiftly recovered themselves and united to stop Mira from getting back to her feet.

Although she was innately stronger than a human male, that was it.

She was just stronger than one person, and not three to four males attacking her at the same time.

If she had undergone combat training or had already awakened at her age, she probably would have been able to handle all four of the guards on her own with ease.

Meanwhile, Helen screamed and lunged forward to help Mira break free from the four guards, but a guard caught her by the shoulder and threw her forcefully to the ground.

Helen hit the dirt and lay stunned on the floor due to the impact to her head when she hit the ground.

She pressed one hand to the side of her head where she’d struck the ground and she could feel her fingers come into contact with something liquid and a little thick.

Meanwhile, Harvard was watching all these unfold in front of him, then to his surprise, he suddenly heard the voice of a little girl emerge from the crowd.

She was around the age of twelve, and Harvard was able to easily deduce that she was Helen’s daughter due to the fact that the little girl looked like a younger version of the woman on the floor.

Emma rushed over to Helen’s side, then grabbed her arm, screaming something over and over again, but Harvard cared very little about the mother and daughter.

Instead, he redirected his attention to the stubborn Tauren girl who had really caused a lot of trouble for him in such a short span of time.

Harvard watched as his guards hauled Mira upright.

She was bleeding from her lips and her left eye had swollen already. She tried to pull free from the guards but she stopped struggling the moment she noticed Helen on the ground with Emma crying beside her mother.

Seeing this, Mira suddenly turned weak.

Her legs lost their strength the moment she saw the blood on Helen’s hands and seeping out of her head.

Mira tried her best to hold back her tears then she slowly hung her head in disappointment and sadness.

She had never wanted things to end up the way they did.

She had only stepped forward earlier because she knew Harvard would have asked his guards to whip Helen just as they had done to others before her.

Mira didn’t want Helen to be flogged because she knew more than anybody else how ill Helen really was.

After her son had suddenly left the village to follow his dreams of joining the elite warrior’s party, Helen had fallen ill due to how worried she became about what would happen to Ray while he was alone in the big city, fighting against monsters and demons.

All these thoughts made the beautiful middle-aged woman overthink until she fell ill and Mira feared something worse might happen if Helen were to be whipped, which was why she stepped out to plead with the Baron.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as she had planned or expected them to be.

And now, they had a really angry Baron approaching them.

Mira lifted her head up and watched as the Baron slowly approached her with his hands clasped behind his back.

She looked at him and watched him maintain a safe distance between the two of them as he opened his mouth to speak.

"Do you know what you’ve done? You assaulted three of my guards during an official tax collection," Baron Harvard said conversationally as he continued. "And you did this in front of the entire village as well. So you understand that I can’t ignore what you’ve done, right?"

He asked, but Mira remained silent.

"If I ignore what you did here." Harvard continued. "There’s a high chance I will face the same thing in the other villages as well and people would think there are no consequences for putting their hands on my men. Young lady, you’ve left me with no choice but to take action. You understand that?" He asked Mira, but the beautiful Tauren girl with her swollen left eye remained silent while staring back at the Baron with the same contemptuous look the Baron had slowly grown to hate.

*Tch* Clicking his tongue, the Baron glanced over to his captain. "Take her to the center of the square. I hereby sentence her to public execution and make sure every single person in this village watches, especially her family." Harvard stole a quick glance at Helen, then at Emma who was still crying next to her, then he looked away.

Meanwhile, the crowd whispered in the background.

Many couldn’t believe what they had just heard.

It was one thing to punish a villager in front of everyone, but why would the Baron kill a young girl in front of them, especially in front of her family as well.

It didn’t make sense, but no one could speak up or stand up to him lest they became the next victim of the Baron’s insane brutality.

Many knew there was nothing they could do or say to change the Baron’s mind so they simply remained silent as they watched the guards drag Helen to her feet despite her condition.

Marcus, still hiding within the crowd, tried calling Emma over to him but she didn’t listen.

Emma didn’t want to be separated from her mother but Marcus didn’t want the little girl to see what was about to happen.

Determinedly, Emma buried her face in her mother’s side as the guards positioned them three feet from the center of the square.

Helen managed to hug Emma tightly so as to prevent the little girl from seeing anything.

Meanwhile, Mira was brought forward and forced to her knees in the dirt.

She looked up but didn’t glance at Harvard.

Instead, her eyes were on Helen and Emma alone.

She muttered a soft inaudible word to Helen as Harvard gave his men the signal and a sword fell a second later with the sound of her head rolling on the ground right after.
