The bloke was barking out commands but it didn’t last more than a second before the captain began making gurgling sounds, as though his throat had been sliced.

A few moments later, everything turned silent.

Harvard’s eyes widened in surprise when he heard nothing from the direction his captain had been.

Then he swiftly pulled back from the window and his heart began to hammer loudly in his chest.

He pressed a hand against his chest and tried to breathe slowly, but how could he breathe calmly when his men were dying outside?

He had over thirty guards outside, yet he could hear each and every one of them dying one by one.

’Thirty guards!! I brought over thirty guards to protect me!!’ He uttered repeatedly in his thoughts.

’They are not awakened fighters but they are trained knights, yet I can hear them dropping like flies outside.’

’What the hell is going on here?’

His hands trembled as he fumbled with his ceremonial sword, but then, an arrow pierced through the carriage wall, stopping right beside his head.

"Eiii!!!" Harvard yelped before dropping his jeweled sword and the blade clattered uselessly across the floor as he pressed himself into the corner.

He could hear the screams of his men stopping one by one until there was nothing left but silence. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Harvard’s hands shook as he retrieved his sword, but the weapon felt like a child’s toy in his grip rather than a tool for combat.

’Perhaps they’ll just take the gold coins I have with me?’ He thought desperately.

’I have a lot of gold and silver coins in my treasure box right now, it should be enough to satisfy these bandits or assassins, right?’

’If they could just take it and leave, I’ll... ’ Harvard paused once he heard the sound of footsteps approaching his wagon.

The door handle turned and Harvard quickly picked up his decorative blade with both hands before raising it with the hope of using it to protect himself.

His rings glinted in the afternoon light, which filtered through the carriage’s window, as the door swung open in front of him.

Harvard watched as a young man stood before him, his back to the golden light of the sun streaming through the forest canopy.

He noticed that the sword in the young man’s hand was still wet with blood and his heart stopped beating for a millisecond.

He tried opening his mouth to speak, to offer him gold or even to negotiate and promise the young man anything he could offer, but before his mouth could produce any coherent words, the young man swiftly moved his arm, and Harvard noticed something small pierce through the air.

He felt the impact before he could understand what had happened, but then he lowered his gaze to see that a throwing knife had buried itself in his left thigh.

Harvard screamed when his body finally recognized the damage that had been done to it.

But the knife wasn’t just any ordinary blade.

It had been coated with Ray’s deadly <<Paralysis Sting>> skill which caused a lethal, icy cold toxin to flow through his veins, forcing his limbs to turn paralyzed.

Harvard’s sword fell from his fingers and his legs turned numb.

He tried to stand but he couldn’t.

He tried to walk and or even move his toes but he couldn’t do either.

His body wouldn’t respond and the paralysis slowly began to spread from his leg upward, crawling up his spine and locking his muscles in place as his arms fell limp at his sides.

His lungs felt heavy, making it difficult for him to breathe.

Harvard stared at the knife and finally realized that it had been poisoned, because that was the only explanation for why his body had suddenly turned unresponsive.

But then, he noticed Ray stepping into the carriage.

Harvard tried to speak, but Ray reached down to grab Harvard by his expensive collar, then he pulled him out of the wagon.

Despite Harvard’s considerable weight and the fact that a lifetime of rich food and expensive wine had left the Baron soft and really heavy, Ray easily hauled the Baron out of the carriage like he weighed nothing at all, causing the Baron to hit the dirt road while his rings scraped against the hard floor.

He tried to push himself up but his arms still wouldn’t move, so he could only gasp and look as Ray rested him against a nearby wagon.

Harvard swiftly glanced around and noticed the bodies of his captain and his guards.

All of them were sprawled across the ground with their blood spreading through the forest road in red pools.

The afternoon sun shone down on the carnage and Harvard couldn’t help but swallow a huge gulp of his saliva as he muttered in his thoughts. ’I’m going to die.’

’I’m going to die here and no one will know what happened to me.’ He thought, but then he noticed Ray crouching down in front of him.

Harvard stared up at Ray’s face and noticed how young Ray was.

From what he could see, he guessed that Ray had to be between nineteen and twenty years old but this didn’t explain why the young man in front of him was staring at him with nothing but a cold, ominous gaze.

He didn’t even recognize the bloke, and rightfully so, because he barely even recognized his guards or the staff working in his mansion. Thus, he couldn’t possibly recognize the young man standing before him.

But with how Ray and his single companion had skillfully taken out his men, Harvard could only conclude that Ray and Mira were mercenaries or assassins.

Meanwhile, Ray didn’t speak or look like he had anything to say to the Baron.

Instead, he simply looked at Harvard in a way someone might look at a problem that needed solving.

"Wait..." Noticing this, Harvard’s words came out as a wheeze. "Please... I have gold. In my treasure chest... It’s filled with gold. Take it. Take all of it. It’s yours if you want..."

Ray’s expression remained neutral and this filled Harvard with even more fear as he desperately tried to negotiate with Ray.

"Listen. I have connections. In the capital! I could make you rich! I can give you land! A title! I could even make you a knight! Whatever you want, I can do it for you, just..."

Ray interrupted the Baron by raising his hand, then he extended two of his fingers straight towards the Baron.

Harvard noticed this and his eyes widened the moment he understood what Ray was about to do, but before he could stop it from happening, Ray embedded his two fingers straight into the Baron’s eye sockets.
