Reincarnated As A Dragon With Cheats-Chapter 33: Dragon Of Nightmares(1)
Chapter 33: Dragon of Nightmares(1)
The goblins’ bodies were trembling vigorously, and Azeth had no say in that.
He thought that the cold following the rain might be one of the reasons, but he quickly dismissed that.
Azeth sensed several other presences.
’Wait, are the goblins being threatened here?’ he suspected.
And it was not a baseless suspicion...
Especially with the stench of blood nearby. A very familiar stench. Azeth almost felt a repulsive urge to kill.
A sorrow followed too, a strange mixture of emotions within him.
There was the corpse of a small dragon hatchling lying nearby.
It became visible when Azeth said just one word, "Move."
And the goblins moved aside immediately.
.
.
.
A few hours ago...
The pack of wolves that had butchered the baby dragon remained not too far from the place.
They used a gigantic banyan tree as shelter from the incoming rain.
Their leader, a black-furred Death Wolf, sat on the ground, ready to rest as the others erected a barrier to prevent bursts of wind from penetrating and disturbing their master’s sleep.
"If not for the rain, we could have enjoyed the delicious dragon meat," said one of the wolves maintaining the dome-shaped barrier.
"Yeah, what a pity," another wolf beside him sighed.
There were about eighteen wolves at the moment, all of them adults. Sixteen were males, and two were females, who appeared to be the Death Wolf’s companions.
They sat close by, overhearing the bickering of their clansmen. They did not indulge in it, as they shared similar thoughts.
One of the females looked up at her husband and asked, "Your Majesty, why didn’t we bring the dragon we killed with us? Our people could have enjoyed the rare meat..."
She herself was drooling, wanting to taste it as well.
Dragons were weaklings. That was a fact.
There was another fact: dragons made fantastic delicacies.
So she could not help but ask,
"Also, I’m not sure why we came here if not for the meat. What was the purpose of visiting such a faraway place, Your Majesty?"
Eren, the Death Wolf, decided to answer and reveal the fear within his heart that kept growing significantly.
"A dream..."
"I had a dream..."
"A bad dream, Shaka."
"B-bad dream?"
"Yes. A nightmare."
Shaka gulped a small chunk of saliva as her head became elevated. One look at her eyes and Eren could tell that she wanted to know more.
"In this nightmare, picture this, Shaka: A monstrous dragon comes right here with thoughts of revenge. It hunts us down with a thirst for blood and tears us apart one by one. Then it proceeds to feast on our flesh. It turns our bones into gruesome tokens of victory and strength. Our teeth are ripped out and aligned like medallions. Yet its hunger for revenge is insatiable. It fuels its growth and seeks every living soul, enslaving them. We were all helpless. All we could do was wait to be consumed on a day stained with doom. Mere livestock and nothing more..."
Eren’s unsettling narrative left Shaka swallowing hard, her throat dry as dust. His words carried an eerie weight.
"And that is why you came here? To kill that being in advance?" Shaka inquired, her voice barely audible.
But Eren didn’t speak immediately. He first paused, then closed his eyes tight regretting something, and then finally looked at her.
"I made a mistake."
Shaka raised her eyebrows and simply stared.
"M-mistake, Your Majesty?"
A nervous gulp echoed in the tense air.
"Yes. This dream came to me like raindrops falling from the sky. The moment I killed the dragon hatchling, I envisioned it... A vision. A nightmarish vision."
The wolves beside him heard this, and for a moment, even their mouths went dry.
"T-then...?"
Eren turned to the one person who could help him.
It was Elder Liik, the oldest and wisest wolf of the pack.
"Uncle, could you please tell your suggestion?"
Liik was smaller, frailer, with less fur, but he still walked proudly. Perhaps due to aging, or the insane wisdom he had acquired, but his black fur had already turned brown.
He stepped forward after giving a brief glance at Shaka and Eren.
Then, after a small pause and putting his tongue out, he said, "It is a simple task. We must go and apologize to the messenger sent by the dragon. We must bow down qnd swear to serve him forever. That is the only way. If not, then..."
There was a brief pause, and a young wolf intervened. "If not, then what, Elder?"
"If not, then I would not consider His Majesty’s nightmare just a dream. It would most likely become a real, realistic scenario."
"Like a dragon killing us all?"
"Yes."
Silence filled the air, which was soon shattered by an eruptive burst of laughter.
"Hahahahahahahaha!!!"
It was Eren’s elder brother, the one missing an eye, Erst.
As prideful as he was, he was also spiteful due to losing leadership to his younger brother.
A Death Wolf himself, he let out a loud howl.
"We are the proud wolves of Talia! And some mere dragon will come and kill us? Hahahahaha!"
Others joined in the laughter, but Erst continued,
"I am a proud Death Wolf, and I would like to see... who dares show me Death?"
Liik barely managed to speak, "You may have command over death, Erst, but..."
"Enough!"
"The dragon is supposed to appear in the nearby goblin village, right? Fine! I will prove myself and kill him before he becomes a threat! All those who believe in me, follow me!"
Ten wolves followed him without question and ran after him.
Elder Liik could only shout from behind, "No! You must not enrage the messenger! He..."
But they were already gone.
And worse was yet to come.
Liik had clearly warned them not to anger the dragon, yet Erst did exactly what he was told not to.
He dragged the corpse of the dead baby dragon to the goblin settlement and dumped it right outside.
This was the exact corpse Azeth was now staring at.
And the presence he felt belonged to the wolves who soon appeared without difficulty.
"So he’s the dragon of nightmares? Hahahahahahaha!"
"..."
"Kill him."
