Chapter 8: First Kill

Pebbles had just briefly noticed the notification. He did hear the words.

But they felt masked under his scream.

Just moments earlier, one of the spiders had collided with a slightly elevated rock right beside him.

The rock broke in half, and about half the momentum was carried forward.

It hit Pebbles right in his abdomen, sending him flying. He crashed onto the cave wall as the system displayed his status.

Pebbles had already lost close to half his health from an indirect impact.

A direct hit and I’ll be back in the Land of Souls...

Pebbles coughed, a sharp, choking sound tearing out of his throat.

A small spray of dark blood splattered into his palm that stained his claws red.

His vision swam as he forced his eyes open.

Above him, a cloud of dust slowly settled, drifting through the cave like dying smoke.

And within that haze...

Red eyes burned.

If earlier they had only been faint glimmers, now he could clearly distinguish their intensity.

Quite bright.

A hoarse chuckle escaped his lips. A rought chuckle and a breathless one. He spat saliva tainted with blood onto the stone as the chuckle stuck onto his face.

He was impressed by this facade.

Every spider around him had shifted their attention toward the baby Stone spider.

And even those still lurking inside their holes began to stir. They became restless due to thrombosis effects of Aggro.

Pebbles didn’t fully understand the skill.

But he could clearly see the result.

The spiders were being drawn toward her.

And the intent behind their movement was anything but kind.

The moment the dust cloud had settled, the spiders launched themselves towards the baby.

This time they were faster and packed much more destructive force.

Just a small impact and the platform on which the baby Stone spider was standing, turned into dust.

It, however, was unharmed so far.

But thr attacks had nowhere died.

From up, left, right, front and back... attacks came from everywhere and the Baby spider dodged all of it!

It was quite agile. But the threads helped it too!

Who said she couldn’t shoot herself away!?

Pebbles watched the drama in front of him as the baby Stone spider kept dodging again and again.

Sometimes she’d use the threads as shield and other times, she’d use them to deflect the incoming Stone spiders.

But nothing ever goes as planned in this accursed world. Not when the world if filled with prejudice and imbalance!

The baby Stone spider was crushed under the rocks after the impacts landed on large rocks in the cave. The rocks broke free frkm the ceiling and simply fell on the baby.

She did escape fatal injuries, but her legs were trapped. They were crushed and green blood flowed around...

Ding!

[The effect of Aggro has ended.]

Pebbles looked at his system screen once and then to the scene ahead.

"Hahaha, you swons of bwitches. Cowards. Come. Come let’s see if you can kill me today, Hahahaha."

Pebbles heard. Pebbles saw. Pebbles lowered his head.

Pebbles felt ashamed.

A great dragon I am...

...I am supposed to be a great dragon.

...my aim is to be a great dragon.

...I’m supposed to be a dragon...

Bizzare thoughts ran in his mind as he tried to correct himself and make sense of it.

A dragon needs to be strong.

A dragon needs to have pride.

A dragon needs to be greedy.

And...

Pebbles raised his gaze of determination

He spotted the injured baby spider that was on the verge of death.

...a dragon must protect his followers!

And he launched himself ahead.

He stood up and walked weirdly. But then normally.

He gritted his teeth hard and then focused. His vision improved.

The feeling of tiredness had vanished.

Ding!

His speed increased.

The Stone spiders had come to their senses and then merely exchanged glances with each other.

They were understanding the situation as one simply suggested, "She must have used Aggro to lure us. Good. She deserves death."

"Death? Okay. Deserved."

"Deserved."

"Deserved... but why use skill? Why Aggro?"

One of the spiders simply turned around and spotted Pebbles charging towards it.

"The Dragon!" It screamed while one of its legs pointed at Pebbles running at at him.

But others mistook it for simply answering the question.

"The dragon? Ah. Yes. The dragon. We hunt. Food. But she stop? Why?"

"The DRAGON!!!"

When the spider screamed once again, other spiders turned towards it only to glance the way where Pebbles was running towards.

"The dragon!" Screamed another while trying to use threads to stop Pebbles but he was just too close to the first spider that had noticed him.

Ding!

Blood flow increased to the tail and it became just a bit thicker.

Pebbles turned a full 360 as his tail lagged behind for just a second.

Combined with the speed that he gained by running, the tail swung had much greater momentum.

And it made contact with the Stone spider.

The Stone spider, was a youngling. It had just reached adolescent.

[Stone Spider Lv.6]

Therefore, it had yet to develope extreme defensive skills.

Its skin hadn’t hardened to the toughest stones yet and hence, it resulted in a massive damage.

One attack from Pebbles, a soft one, caused a destructive throw of the spider.

It was launched straight to the ceiling where hung the long conical rocks.

BOOM!

First, the launched spider formed a small crater on the rock and got stuck to the bottom most part of it. Then the rock dislodged from the ceiling and made its way to the ground.

BOOM!

The spider hardly and barely had any time to escape from the falling rock and before realizing it...

Ding!
