Reincarnated as a Fat Bastard in an Eroge Game-Chapter 26: Well Crap
This is crazy.
No wonder I kept getting that weird feeling whenever I looked at her.
According to Jenny, I had told her that Angel was once my roommate — something that happened two years ago. While we were roommates we had apparently crossed a line at some point and with time developed some kind of weird relationship. She said she didn’t know much about it since I avoided the topic most of the time, but at some point after moving up a class and then getting demoted back down due to my lack of combat talent, I had cut all ties with Angel completely.
Then after some time she resurfaced as Micheal’s girlfriend.
According to Jenny, something had happened between me and Angel — something I never told her — and there was a high chance Angel was using her relationship with Micheal just to get close to me. Her actual reasons for that, however, remained a mystery. That was the main reason Jenny had been so cold toward her from the start.
"Are you sure she’s really using him? Maybe she actually likes him," I suggested.
Jenny shrugged. "Well, that’s within the realm of possibility, but you can never be too sure. So just avoid her. Don’t even look at her."
I gave her a dry look. "I don’t see how looking at her helps her accomplish her grand plans, but fine. I won’t."
For the first time, she broke into a cheeky grin. "Good."
I instinctively reached over and patted her head, stroking it once. She giggled.
What the hell? I mean it’s cute and all, but it’s kind of jarring given that I can still clearly remember how terrifying she was back at the cafeteria.
"Alright, back to the main questions. What are the important things I’m not remembering?" I asked.
She looked up, sighed, then pushed her hair behind her ear and let it fall across the other side of her face.
"Alright. I’ll just tell you the important things for now — you’ve always been one heck of a secretive idiot so I don’t know what counts as ’important’ to you." She held up a finger. "Firstly, you’re an orphan. From what you once told me, you lived in Sepharen before the Government picked you up and brought you here. Secondly, this is Terium Nexus, where we’ve all been for a very long time now — it’s also where we first met. Thirdly, you’re in Class C at the moment, but your placement could change when the next session starts."
"What class are you?" I asked.
She smirked. "A."
Damn. She must be really good.
Placement here isn’t determined by physical ability alone — theoretical knowledge counts for just as much. That’s probably why the protagonist ended up in the same class as me despite not being particularly sharp. The guy might be strong, but he’s not exactly sound knowledge-wise. Though that would likely change come the next academy session.
Wait — Lyra is Class A as well. So why was she in the practicals with us? Could it have been a combined exam?
"Finally," Jenny continued, "you are mine."
The grin was still there, but her eyes had gone dead again.
"Yours? Like... your boyfriend?" I asked.
"Well... not officially. But it’s more than that, actually." She tilted her head. "You’re my husband. My darling."
I had absolutely no idea how to respond to that.
"I... um... I don’t think we should be going that far already," I said.
"Why not? We’ve already done everything." She suddenly took my hand and leaned in close — really close. Those eyes were something else entirely. "Also, I love you. And you love me too. What else is there holding us back?"
"Calm down. You seem to be forgetting I can’t remember a single thing," I said.
She clicked her tongue and looked away.
"Um — about the written exams," I said.
Her eyes went wide. "That’s right, I completely forgot. Without your memories, how are you supposed to take the exams?" She frowned. "Is there anything we can do about that?"
She bit her lip. "Well, I’m not in the same class as you, and unlike today’s practicals we’ll be in different halls for this one." She paused. "It’s called ’written’ but it’s actually CBT, done on computers, and it requires personal verification to begin. So I can’t access your papers without you physically being there."
She sighed and rubbed her forehead. "What do we do?"
CBT? So it’s not pen and paper at all? Well, crap. That makes this significantly worse.
"Hold on," she said suddenly.
I looked up.
"There might be a way."
