Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 223: Adolf’s Contract
After the elevator returned to the fifth floor, Kael and Chloe strolled past the pillars at a leisurely pace.
Their feet created crisp sounds every time they landed on the ground, causing a series of synchronized echoes to spread out from them.
Adolf’s helpless roars had seized, he had heard the sound of the approaching footsteps and patiently waited.
He secretly hoped that the person coming to meet him was Xu Ying or someone he knew.
Soon, the figure of a tall blonde man wearing black clothes appeared in his vision. The clothes he wore were incredibly simplistic, the way most lions liked them.
Adolf could not recognize this person immediately, after all, he had never seen Kael in his humanoid form. But the feminine figure beside this black-clothed man was very familiar with.
It was someone he had teased multiple times in the past.
"Chloe?" Adolf muttered, if Chloe was here, then the person beside her was none other than…
"Kael,"
Suddenly, the pain he had by his side that had reduced seemed to flare again as he remembered the golden figure that had slammed into him.
Adolf’s lips patted into a nasty growl, his limbs moved and pain shot into his body from the tightening metal strings.
He had tried to transform into his humanoid form but there were restrictions added to the magic of the metal strings, preventing him from transforming.
"Adolf," Kael opened his mouth as spoke the fiery lion’s name in the language of the lions.
Adolf didn’t stop struggling, rather, he began to struggle harder the closer Kael got to him.
He looked at Chloe with disappointment and anger, he couldn’t believe that she would betray them for this…
This…
This Primordial Lion.
Adolf seemed to have come to his senses when he realized that this person was actually the fabled Primordial Lion.
It made a little bit more sense for Chloe to have sided with Kael over them.
"My name is…" Kael started but was cut off.
"Kael, I know," Adolf said with a snarl. He wasn’t aware that Kael had evolved, but he could sense that Kael was stronger than him. Even without sensing the aura, the fact that Kael had knocked him out and broken so many of his ribs with one hit was enough evidence.
Still, Adolf being a lion was not so willing to turn into a sycophant for Kael just because he was the Primordial Lion.
Kael expected this.
Kael and Chloe drew closer until they finally stood in front of the large lion bound to the floor.
Kael turned to Chloe and handed her the info orb in her hand for her to hold. Chloe received the info orb with care while giving Adolf a side glance.
Adolf’s eyes followed the info orbs as they exchanged hands. He knew what an info orb was and wondered what was the content of this particular one.
"Aren’t you wondering how you’re trapped and where Xu Ying and the others are?" Kael asked at this time.
Adolf didn’t answer, he had a feeling that any answer he gave would be wrong.
"They ran away," Kael said with a calm smile, "They ran away and abandoned you here," His time was blunt and complimented by a harsh telepathic voice.
Adolf chuckled, "Xu Ying? Ran away?" He said, trying to hide his sorrowful laughter. It was hard to imagine Xu Ying running away in his case.
That heavenly beacon was the only way for them to establish a connection with heaven from this world.
Why would Xu Ying run away and leave his only chance of getting home?
To Adolf, there could only be two explanations for why Xu Ying and the others were not here.
It was either Xu Ying had gotten his paws on the heavenly beacon but left because he didn’t have time to save him.
Or.
Kael had overpowered Xu Ying, giving the Magus Lion no other choice but to make a strategic retreat.
If it was the first, then it meant Adolf could wait for a while and count on his father coming to rescue him. It wouldn’t be long before the Lion Kings would organize a team to come for him.
However, if it was the second possibility, it was bad.
But, if it was the first, Kael should not be so relaxed.
"Yes," Kael gave the large fiery red lion a chilling smile, "Xu Ying and the rest ran away and they didn’t even get to take the heavenly beacon,"
A chill went down Adolf’s spine, were Primordial Lions this terrifying?
"I could kill you, even if your father wanted to take revenge, he wouldn’t be able to do it immediately.
Either way, you’d be dead and wouldn’t be around to witness it," Kael added as he took a step forward.
Adolf instinctively reeled his head back, not willing to be too close to such a dangerous entity.
Lions might be dominating and ultimate bullies, but they were NOT fearless.
"Why are you still keeping me here then?" Adolf asked. His mind worked fast, realizing that Kael had a reason for keeping him here.
Kael nodded in satisfaction, Adolf was sensible when the situation called for it, it made his own part easier.
"Once I release you from your bondage, you will be able to use that escape rune you have inscribed on your body," Kael said.
He was referring to the Recall System Rune that Xu Ying had inscribed on all of them. Indeed, once the restrictions from the metal strings were gone, he would be able to activate it.
Once he activated the recall rune, Adolf would be able to return to the magic shuttle. Xu Ying had thought of this before leaving Adolf behind, but he also expected that Kael would kill Adolf before he could get a chance to use it.
That Adolf was still alive was not beyond Xu Ying’s expectations but it wasn’t a high probability on his charts.
"I know what you’re thinking, don’t think too much, I won’t kill you if you don’t give me a reason to," Kael said while flexing his fingers and releasing a bit of his aura.
Adolf’s pupils shrank and his mind blanked for a moment. Kael had evolved, he could tell.
There was no point resisting any longer. There was no point doubting Kael’s words any longer.
Adolf instantly entered a state of calmness and defeat. He had suffered a loss without putting up a fight.
If he managed to get out of there, he would have to go on a pilgrimage to prove his Lionhood again, if not, his mind would not be at peace.
"What do you want from me?" Adolf asked.
Kael’s smile got wider, this was what he wanted.
Chloe who had been silent all this while shook her head with a wry smile. Adolf was getting the same treatment Kael had given her when he caught her.
Adolf’s fear of death was stronger than his pride or any aggressive emotions that usually filled his brain.
A golden light began to glimmer from Kael’s eyes. The Law Of Conquering was coming together to form something.
"I want something from you, yes," Kael said, "I’ll release you and let you escape.
But on two conditions:
Condition number one, you will let Xu Ying know that I have a proposition for him and he should find a way to meet me.
The second condition is that you will be loyal forever to…"
Kael paused, feeling the Conquering Essence resisting his control after he said that last sentence.
Adolf guessed what Kael had wanted to say and frowned, he didn’t like those conditions at all.
But he didn’t protest, from Kael’s deep frown, he could guess that something was wrong.
Chloe also stared at Kael’s back, wondering why he had not completed that sentence.
"Fine then," Kael said to himself. He had just gained new enlightenment on how the contract process worked.
It turned out that it wasn’t as broken and omnipotent as he had thought it to be.
Apparently, there were subtle rules that guided the contracting process. Not all contracts that he made would be Consort Contracts.
Consort Contracts were unique in a sense, their uniqueness was dependent on many factors that made them stand out from any other contract.
The contract he wanted to form with Adolf was different and had to be fair.
Unconditional loyalty for the rest of Adolf’s life was a price that didn’t equate to getting freed.
Kael could still use a backhand method and force the contract to form either way, but that would come as a result of him suffering a backlash. For Adolf’s loyalty, it just wasn’t worth it.
’Is it because he is a lion?’ Kael didn’t know if there was a rule that restricted him from making unfair contracts with his fellow lions.
Adolf was his only specimen for now and he would need further testing with other creatures.
Kael sighed, his hopes dashed away for now.
"The second condition," Kael started again and the Conquering Essence within him began reacting again.
"You will obey me unconditionally seven times when I demand it," Kael said, altering the formation of the contract.
This time, the Conquering Essence did not resist and a golden paper filled with strange scribblings appeared in front of Adolf.
Adolf stared wide-eyed at the golden contact paper and read its content, all that was left was for him to accept or reject it.
"I reject,"
