Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 725: Illusory Mother
"Regent, I see them," the blue-scaled Imperial Guard Boss said as they approached the Massive Black Pyramid.
Because of its size, they had already spotted it very quickly and also detected the multitude of arkships parked around it.
On the rooftop of the highest tower of the Imperial Palace, Ibadon stood with his arms still folded and his black cape fluttering furiously.
They were moving with warp speed. But this warp speed was not due to any machinery within the Imperial Palace. The palace moved at warp speed under the influence of Ibadon’s own power.
Which was probably why the dragon guards could survive moving at this speed without being ripped apart by the sheer inertia.
Ibadon was protecting them. Or rather, he was protecting the Imperial Palace with his mysterious powers and indirectly protecting the dragon guards in the process.
Ibadon’s pitch-black eyes were locked on the Massive Black Pyramid.
His gaze pierced through space, time, and meaning, to lock on his target.
There.
Floating there, again the center of it all, wearing white robes and a calm smile. The All-King looked uncomfortably confident.
Ibadon’s brows furrowed. Ever since he and Kael officially knew their standing in the game of war, the latter had always made an effort to avoid Ibadon.
To see Kael comfortably hovering with a calm gaze strangely upset Ibadon.
What trick was being played?
Ibadon wondered.
If the All-King was waiting for him personally, it would mean that he had a way of dealing with Ibadon.
Or was it because he had become a Singularity?
This was also a possibility Ibadon had thought of.
Singularity Primordials were known to be way more powerful than regular Primordials and it was almost assured that Kael would have gained a few more abilities.
But the understanding of Kael’s possible source of confidence did not deter Ibadon, who would never happen.
The Imperial Palace did not slow down, rather, it sped up, tearing through reality like a cosmic flash to instantly appear in front of the horse of arkships and the Massive Black Pyramid.
However,
The most surprising thing happened.
The Imperial Palace stopped.
There was no flash from cannon fire. No defensive barrier to slow them down.
It just stopped, surprising both the lions and the dragon guards.
In that final moment, the Imperial Palace had moved so fast through reality that it was as if it had teleported.
To the lions, the Imperial Palace which was insanely far away suddenly appeared in front of them without any alarm.
And to the dragon guards, they didn’t even know when they arrived.
This caused a slight delay in reaction as the dragon guards began preparing themselves for a fight.
Same with the lions too.
But the reason the Imperial Palace had stopped at that last second was because of what Ibadon saw.
Right now, Ibadon’s eyes were wide open and his heart was beating fast. The blackness faded away and his eyes turned to a colour that had barely appeared throughout his life.
Ibadon’s grey eyes stared at the spot between the vast wave of arkships and the Imperial Palace.
His eyes had turned grey. This was the original colour. Not red, not blue, not green, and certainly not black.
It was grey.
The last time Ibadon’s eyes were grey was when he was in his early twenties.
That was because each colour of eyes Ibadon had represented different states of mind for Ibadon.
Red represented his casual nature and calmness.
Blue eyes meant that he had locked away all his emotions and was thinking with logic only. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Green eyes only appeared when Ibadon was in a state of extreme excitement or happiness.
The black eyes would appear and remain whenever Ibadon was frustrated or experiencing a combination of very negative emotions. And the only way to get rid of those negative emotions was to erase the source.
But his grey eyes, those were the eyes he was born with. The eyes he used to see his mother and father for the last time.
His grey eyes represented his lost childishness. It represented his vulnerability, his weakness.
And as far as Ibadon was concerned he had just one weakness that also served as his strength and his reason to keep on going.
His memories.
His memories of his life and his experience of being a child with a mother and father had the heaviest hold on him. So heavy that it was still dictating his actions ten million years later.
Derylia and Sakan must have been really fantastic parents.
These memories were also one of the factors that kept pushing him to take his revenge. He knew well that he would never be able to recover the warmth that he once had because of the lions.
Till this day, Ibadon mourned.
Till this very day.
This very second.
He had briefly escaped that state, his eyes were now an ordinary grey and one could even see the clear whites of his eyes.
Why?
Because Ibadon was now looking at the illusory figure of his mother standing in front of the Imperial Palace with the arkships behind her.
Her form was a faint gold and transparent, but anyone could clearly make out all the features on her face.
Her hair was arranged to fall to one side of her head and it flowed down to her covered breasts.
Derylia was tall, but would be considered a little on the small side by human standards. Even her humanoid form was laughable as she barely trained in any actual power.
The only power she could have had by creating consort contracts with lions, she abandoned it for Sakan. And since Sakan was not a lion, nor a Primordial, Derylia was rendered powerless till she died.
So although this illusory figure of Derylia was very realistic, it was also a stark reminder of just how stupid she had been.
No one should sacrifice power for love, no one.
"Mother?" Ibadon asked as he lifted off the rooftop and flew forward.
This was the first time Ibadon was seeing this version of his mother.
Back on planet Green Cloud, this illusory figure had appeared along with the other Primordials before fusing with him.
This was something that Ibadon had failed to observe with his eyes as he was distracted by the presence of Exalon at that moment.
Exalon, ah yes, how could the All-King ever forget that one of his most loyal subordinates had been forced to death by Ibadon?
Of course, he didn’t.
Meanwhile, Ibadon approached the tall illusory golden woman whom he knew as his mother, Derylia.
Derylia looked at Ibadon with a look of confusion. Then realization appeared in her eyes, followed by acceptance, and regret.
"Mother... is that you?" Ibadon asked.
Derylia gave a very melancholic smile. Like a soul that had been brought out of hell for a brief moment knowing fully well that the relief was never going to last.
"Ah, Ibadon..." Derylia said, her face decorated by two illusory tear marks that slid down her transparent cheeks.
"I’m sorry," Derylia apologized in front of everyone. In front of all the dragons and lions.
"I’m sorry I put you in this situation, it was all my fault," Derylia continued as she moved closer to Ibadon.
Two rows of tears slid down Ibadon’s cheeks. He couldn’t control himself. He wanted this, he wanted this moment to last forever.
His heart was broken and pieced back together the moment he saw his mother again. He wanted her to be back.
"No, no, no," Ibadon shook his head, almost whispering.
At the back of his mind, he wondered why his mother appeared here at this point. He wondered why she was in this illusory form. He wondered how she was still alive after all this time.
How?
But Ibadon’s logical thinking was heavily suppressed by his emotions right now.
"You didn’t do anything," Ibadon smiled, finally feeling a sense of warmth in his heart. Suddenly, the world seemed a lot more colourful.
Derylia shook her head, "I did, I should have never left you..." She said.
Ibadon opened his mouth, but no words came out. Indeed, she should have never left. If she hadn’t, she would still be very much alive right now.
"It’s fine mother. The lions are the ones who killed you," Ibadon defended from another angle.
"It’s fine now, you are here..." Ibadon then reached out to hold his mother’s hand.
However, to the dismay of Ibadon and the regret of Derylia, Ibadon’s hand simply passed through her arm without grabbing anything.
Ibadon didn’t seem to comprehend what had happened, or he refused to believe it. He reached out again to grab her hand but the same thing happened.
Again, and again, and again.
Ibadon tried and failed every single time.
Derylia sighed, "I’m gone Ibadon, let it go..." She leaned forward so that her face was dangerously close to Ibadon’s.
Ibadon shook his head, "Please..." He said pleadingly. All the son wanted was his mother once again. Even if he could get just a fraction of her warmth, it would be best.
Ibadon looked into the illusory eyes of his mother for some seconds. Unsure of what to do here. He never expected that something like this would happen.
Just then, something shocking happened. Derylia’s face began to twist and shift, changing into something else. Her smile widened into a sinister grin and her face became more masculine.
To the horror of Ibadon who felt like every second was an eternity of hell, Derylia’s face changed and was replaced with the face of the All-King.
A small bang went off in Ibadon’s head.
