Reincarnated as an Energy with a System-Chapter 1722: Perpetual Awakening
Matthew stopped the sword of the one that attacked him, only to get shocked the moment he was attacked. It wasn't a strong shock, not enough to wound him. But it was strong enough to get his entire body to convulse for a second, and even get close enough to drop the sword in his hand.
That was why he had interlocked his fingers around the sword's handle, making sure that even if he was shocked enough to want to let go of the sword, he couldn't.
He was still trying to learn about his own powers during the fight. He needed to be careful as to what it was so that he couldn't accidentally do something to his enemy that helped him, or do something that harmed his allies.
He had gone through this dozens of times by now, so he was aware of what he could and could not do in a battle. The main thing to realize was to never use the powers on a human.
And yet, from all the powers he had used, it was not something that affected objects. It was a power that affected people. Whether it was a friendly power or not, he needed to figure out next.
He looked around for a second, seeing who he could use this power on. He thought of a dozen different people, but in the end, the only one he could safely use the power on was himself.
Matthew quickly moved away from the zapping figure and used the power on himself. Suddenly he felt something change within his body. The power affected just his body.
'Does it help me in battle?' he thought.
The last power he had was one that helped provide sustenance to whoever he was around. He had kept it so that none of his soldiers would ever be hungry or without energy on a battlefield, and it had helped them survive as a prisoner and then as a runaway.
That was the reason that despite the lack of food, they had survived so long in the forest.
The power enveloped him and he suddenly felt weird. He felt something protruding from the sides of his chest, feeling uncomfortable against the skin.
The armor was blocking whatever had appeared on his body and he quickly got rid of it to check. When he did, he was shocked beyond belief.
He had 2 arms other than his 2 arms, just inches below the real ones.
The leader remained shocked for a while. "Perpetual Awakening!" he thought in surprise. "Can this be real? Is this happening to me?"
The few who saw him get two of his arms out were surprised as well.
The two new arms Matthew had felt no different from the other two arms. In fact, they felt better. They came slightly toward the front of his chest so that when the arms were laid flush against the sides, they wouldn't overlap.
The new arms were also long, reaching past his knees.
'A whole new set of arms,' Matthew thought and began laughing in glee. He only laughed for 5 seconds before one of his soldiers shouted at him.
"Boss!"
Matthew looked to the side. "What?" he asked, searching to see what had happened. That was when he noticed Ning squirming on the ground, screaming.
Amidst the many clashes, he finally heard his voice.
"He is screaming about something. I think a spirit got into him," the soldier said.
"WHAT?!" Matthew shouted out loud, immediately rushing toward Ning who was on the ground, screaming and rolling. He grabbed Ning and found him stronger than he would've thought of someone so frail-looking.
Thankfully, with all four of his arms, he quickly grabbed Ning's arms to the side, pinning his flailing body to the ground. At the same time, he closed his eyes, feeling the spirit that was hiding inside of him right now, grabbing it.
Exorcists had two powers as a Spirit Awakener. Spectral Soothing and Spectral Healing.
Spectral Soothing allowed one to calm vengeful spirits, making them more and more docile with each passing second. The soothing ranged from simply calming them to a point where they had no thoughts or emotions of their own.
At that point, no spirit would have a reason to exist anymore and would simply dissipate away. All spirits that dissipated would give their energy back to the exorcist that dissipated it.
Matthew immediately started with Spectral Soothing and began calming the spirit that was inside of Ning. He was beyond surprised to find the strength of the spirit that was inside him.
'So strong. He had to be a powerful awakener himself in his past life,' Matthew thought. He continued soothing and slowly Ning stopped flailing around.
The more he soothed, the calmer Ning got. Then at some point, Ning finally opened his eyes.
"What… what happened?" he asked.
"I'm soothing a spirit inside of you. Wait a moment," the man said, focusing all of his attention on taking away the last of the will from the spirit.
Ning remained there, looking to the side where the soldiers were fighting the army to keep them at bay. He couldn't see much beyond that at the moment.
"Done," Matthew said, finally letting go of him. "That was a strong spirit. Where did it come from?"
"An Earl from the empire I killed about a month ago," Ning said, taking a closer look at the Earl's body. "Why do you have 2 extra arms?"
The leader smiled. "Perpetual Awakening," he said with a grin.
Ning's eyes widened slightly. "That's… incredible. I read that it is very rare."
"The odds of getting one is incredibly low," the leader said.
"Let us go back to the fight," Ning said, getting up, and grabbing his spear. "I'm glad the woman didn't shoot us while I was—"
His words stopped halfway through the sentence when the entire row of soldiers in the distance suddenly stopped moving and fell to the ground, finally dead.
