Chapter 119: Goddess of death.

(The land Vagosu, Vergino kingdom.)

A large door.

Stretching so far into the sky that it was almost impossible to see the top. The castle was not any smaller, so much so that anyone would be convinced giants lived there.

Surrounded by harsh weather, dark skies even though it was meant to be morning, and uneven terrain, Ava and the girls stood before the entrance of the goddess’s domain.

Not many people could brag about getting so far to the east and actually making it to the resting land of the goddess of death.

Everyone knew not to trespass onto the land, although many didn’t know why. Rumors spread that people who went never showed their faces again; others claimed it was because the demon lord rested there. Many conspiracies and rumors went around fast.

The king himself was among the people who urged others not to go anywhere near the land of Vagosu.

Of course, not everyone listened.

Some have claimed to actually see a castle and a goddess sitting atop it with two lions with the faces of birds resting beside her.

They claimed it was like their death was staring directly into their eyes, urging them to come closer.

No one was stupid enough to do that. So many prayed to her from afar to grant their requests. And nine times out of ten, it most likely came to pass... but at a cost.

Well, no one except these girls who were desperate enough to do anything.

"Are we supposed to just walk in now?" asked Veronica, her arms folded as she stood beside the girls.

True, the door looked unusual, so it wasn’t clear if opening it without an invitation was a good idea.

Seeing as many of the locals warned them not to enter Vagosu, it was safe to say they should be careful what they do.

"I think we should just ask for permission first. If she’s a goddess, then she should already know we are here already." Hina grabbed Alaric’s hand, holding him tight as if she was holding her own life.

"Okay then..."

Ava took the initiative.

Looking up at the gloomy sky, where she could see thunder building up behind the dark clouds, she curved her hands around her mouth.

"Goddess of death!!! Hefrina! We seek an audience!!!"

Her voice was so loud that it caused many of the crows to fly away in panic. The land had always been silent, with nothing but the sound of thunder entertaining them. It was only natural they would find it strange to hear a girl screaming at the giant gate.

But as time passed, the girls realized they were most likely not going to get any response.

"What should we do then? I can sense strong magic on the door, so breaking it might be difficult. I’d say we run up the walls, but I don’t know if you’d be able to do the same with Alaric." Ava’s eyes were focused on the roof of the gate.

"You... really want us to run up this gate?" Hina couldn’t help but make a nervous glint.

"Yes, if we build up enough momentum, we should be able to do it."

"I agree, we’ve spent too much time to get here to suddenly turn back." Veronica took a few steps back; she wanted to go first.

Demons were known to be exceptionally brave.

But just as she was about to take off...

"So this is the famous child of Trinity. A human."

That voice didn’t belong to any one of the girls. If that didn’t cause them to panic, then the immense pressure that suddenly filled their lungs as the voice came did it perfectly.

It was obvious someone was behind them, close to where Hina and Alaric were, to be exact.

Can you even call whatever was behind them someone? Anyone that can give off this much aura and poison from their presence can never be a living thing.

Which only meant one thing—

The goddess of death had come to observe the mortals that dared to enter her domain.

’She’s here!’

’I... I want to check her out—but something tells me if I look back now... I’ll definitely die.’

’She’s closer to Lord Alaric; I need to get him out of here!’

All three ladies panicked in their minds, fear from a person they hadn’t seen with their eyes.

Fear of the unknown.

"Hmm~, I see. He does look a lot like Barbados; it’s no wonder she is so obsessed with you. A king without a soul, such a sad ending for someone who could have ruled the heavens."

At this point, the said goddess had begun to touch Alaric’s chin, her dark misty fingers almost digging into his flesh.

It didn’t seem like she wanted to hurt him, but then again, this was a goddess; the gods are not so easily understood.

’I need to do something!’

Hina slowly turned her eyes. Just a small glimpse; if she could just get a small glimpse of—

Hina was frozen in shock...

The woman behind her looked like she was the embodiment of darkness itself. Her face was shrouded with a dark mist-like energy, making it difficult to read her expression, and while she wore a black dress with a veil covering her face, you could still see the countless souls of the dead hugging her skin.

It would make anyone puke.

Hina tried to look away as fast as she could.

Alas, she was too slow. Trying to outsmart a god was nothing short of foolish.

The moment Hina looked away, Hefrina grabbed Alaric’s hand and pulled him closer.

Unexpectedly, Hina lost hold of Alaric, her eyes widened in fear as she quickly forgot any hesitation she once had and turned around with rage etched on her face.

"Don’t you dare touch him!!!"

Her fist clenched with rage backing it up.

Ava and Veronica were confused as to why Hina suddenly screamed like that. Did something happen to Alaric?

They didn’t know. They didn’t care either.

Ava pulled out her blade, ready to back Hina up, while Veronica summoned magic circles to create a spell.

Then again...

How many mortals can take down a god?

"Fall."
