Chapter 27: Nyme’s First Mission

Baronet Bali sat back down on the sofa, he kept looking around the room and his attention went to a painting on the wall, the painting was of a ship, it was adorned with gold.

"I’ll be direct," Darius said as he sat down on another sofa, the Baronet stared at him, he felt a firmness in his voice. "We want to buy wood and the Duke informed us that you sell it, is that correct?"

"Yes, I own a sawmill, we can supply the wood you need."

"You sell it cut into boards?"

"Yes, we can also cut it to the size you prefer, or deliver the raw wood, without any cutting."

"I made a small mistake, at this meeting the person with the most knowledge about what we need didn’t come," he paused. "Tell you what, we want to buy all your production, when I say all, I mean all of it. But we still don’t know exactly what we want, so I’m going to advance an order and ask a messenger to send what we need today, can we do that?"

"Yes, we can," he was excited about making a sale.

"I’ll pay for part of it, in an hour we’ll get to the whole production," he took 300 gold coins out of his coin purse and put them on the table.

"All of it?"

"Yes, I want a long-term agreement with you, if that’s also your interest."

"Yes, it’s certainly in my interest," he said excitedly, and you could tell he was very happy about it. All the more so as he was barely able to keep his mansion due to low sales.

They said goodbye and while the Baronet left, the adventurers returned with Nyme and the others. The Baronet was watching the group.

"We have some not-so-pleasant news," Zai said with a smile Kaly found odd. "Elara wants to know when you’re going to hand in your mission, the deadline is today."

"I forgot, we need to go to the forest. You continue your training, at lunchtime ask the maids to serve you something."

"All right, let’s start training, see you later," Zai said cheerfully as he headed for a spot on the estate, this spot was the best, at least for them, because the trees provided shade and it was ventilated, it really was the best place.

The Baronet was watching, but didn’t say anything, just said goodbye once more and left.

Kaly returned to the mansion and told the maids that they should serve food to the adventurers and the children. Then she returned and went with Darius and Nyme into the forest; they were to take down some orcs, a red serpent, and a group of goblins. She already had the bodies of monsters in her bag of items, but she wanted to show Nyme what it was like to hunt and how she could use magic in situations like this.

Zenith stood at the door watching, Kaly asked her to accompany them.

In the forest, Kaly used her flute and some monsters began to appear, Nyme fearfully approached Darius. Zenith didn’t seem to mind, but she didn’t make any attacks, just stared at the monsters, as if she didn’t know what to do.

Kaly began to attack, and then Darius attacked with ice arrows.

Kaly approached Zenith and Nyme and taught them both the spells. Nyme tried to attack a slime, but the spell was weak and she needed two arrows to shoot down the slime. Zenith managed to shoot down an orc, which fell on a goblin.

"Don’t worry about it, it’s normal that you won’t be able to take it down at first," Kaly said as she collected the bodies of the monsters and put them in her bag of items.

"It’s okay, I really need to get stronger soon."

"Don’t worry, it will come with time."

They continued slaughtering some monsters, Zenith was already tired, she had only slaughtered two orcs and already wanted to stop. Nyme managed to shoot down a slime first, she had sharpened her arrow.

They continued until they had killed all the monsters and when they had finished they went straight to the Guild, there they went to Clara, who counted the monsters and recorded them on each one’s card, as the missions were level D and E, it only took two more missions for Nyme to be promoted. Darius didn’t understand how they arrived at these numbers, Kaly once explained it to him, but he gave up trying to understand.

"Some adventurers have delivered some artifacts, they’re in storage and waiting for you to evaluate them."

They went into a room, and on the table were some rings and a necklace.

"What do they do?"

"I’ve separated them by function, these rings give protection against fire magic, and these here increase resistance against physical attacks. These others increase attack. The necklace, I forgot about it, it recovers mana, 10 points every 2 seconds. But the adventurers who found it will only sell it for 1,000 gold coins."

"I’ll take them all, pay 150 coins for each of these items and 1,000 gold coins for the necklace."

"Really?"

"Yes, you can withdraw the amounts from my account, I want everyone to be rewarded for their efforts in finding these artifacts. But I still want my ad to be published, I still want more artifacts," she said as she put the items in her bag of items.

"All right, I’ll leave the ad up and when we have more artifacts I’ll let you know."

Kaly said goodbye and headed for the mansion, she was hungry and wanted to make all the potions as quickly as possible. On the way she went to the Blue Moon Apothecary, where she bought 20 more cauldrons and heat plates, so she could make more potions at the same time.

"Nyme, today we’re going to see your new limit for using magic. If you manage to make the 120 balls of water I told you about, you’ll be responsible for one potion cauldron, gradually you’ll be responsible for more. I want you to one day be the alchemist in charge of all the potions."

"All right, but shouldn’t we have a name?"

"Name?"

"Yes, the stores have a name, but we don’t use one, we just use the family crest and nothing else."

"You’re right, we can think of something, but I don’t know an interesting name," Kaly said looking at Darius.

"Let’s call it Scri Dragon," he said quickly, as if he had already thought of something, but he just thought of it on the spot, used an abbreviation for scribe and put it together with dragon. He was thinking about the pens when he did.

"We’ll use that name, even though I don’t understand it, but that doesn’t matter," Kaly said with a small smile on his face. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"When will the factory be ready?"

"I don’t know, it will take a few months, so we have to wait, then we still have to buy the furniture, but everything will be easier when it’s ready."

They continued walking until they reached the mansion, where they ate and then put up all the plates they had and then the cauldrons. All the benches and tables in the kitchen were occupied. There were two medium-sized tables there, the space wasn’t very big, but it was what they had and so far it was functional.

"Nyme, use water magic and fill the cauldrons to the brim. Count how many balls of water you’ve gotten. Wear this ring here for a few minutes and start."

"What does this ring do?"

"It will recover part of your mana every 5 seconds, it’s a bit slow, but I want you to have your mana fully replenished before you start."

5 minutes passed, Kaly placed Nyme’s hand on the board and it appeared that she had 243 mana points, it was still too little, but it made sense, she had only started studying a few days ago.

"Remove the ring and count how many balls you have."

Nyme began, she had managed to fill half a cauldron. She began to feel tired, as a recommendation she stopped using magic.

"70 balls of water."

"She got more than me, but she has fewer mana points than when I started."

"Yes, that’s for a reason, she has an affinity with water, you don’t, so your energy expenditure is higher."

"Affinity?"

"I think I’ve already talked about this, or not. But come on, every person, even if they’re not a wizard, has an affinity with some element, and they can have an affinity with all of them, or just one. But they have an affinity with at least one element. When you use magic with an element you don’t have an affinity with, you tend to use more mana than when you use an element you do have an affinity with. That’s why she uses a lot less mana than you do."

"That makes sense, but how do I know which element I have an affinity with?"

"We need an element sphere, it’s similar to the mana plate, depending on the color we know what elements a person has an affinity for. Another time I’ll see if Lucian has one."

"All right. Back to the point, what do we do now?"

"I’ll explain," she said approaching Darius, she put both hands on his head, then did the same with Nyme. "Now you know how to make this potion, since Nyme is out of mana, she’ll prepare the roots and you’ll make the potions, the 35 cauldrons will make more than 8,000 potions," she said looking at Darius, then pointed at the cauldrons.

"I’ll never get used to the feeling of learning like this," said Nyme as she cut the roots.
