Chapter 53: Don’t try to Break Into the Factory

In a gazebo, Elara was drinking tea, she seemed to be waiting for someone, but they hadn’t arrived yet. A servant kept serving tea and cookies.

"I’ve had my fill of tea and cookies, you don’t have to serve me any more. Thank you for your services," she wasn’t as arrogant as usual, because she was supposed to show that she was a polite person, at least that’s the behavior expected of someone who holds the title of princess.

She hated the title and that’s why few people knew that she was Kael’s first daughter, since he was a Duke. She preferred to avoid attention in that sense.

Kael was wearing heavy clothes that looked like he was being tortured, and walking around in them under the sun made him sweat non-stop. In addition to the clothes that covered his entire body, he wore a red cloak made of thick fabric.

He couldn’t walk very far in the temperature, so he removed the cloak and asked one of the servants to hold it for him.

The day itself was hotter than usual, which was far from ideal, but they couldn’t control the weather and all that remained was to accept it.

Kael sat down facing Elara.

"I didn’t expect him to do that, but I managed to do what you asked," she said as she poured him some tea.

"He’s more interesting than I thought, but what matters is that Carl has fallen and won’t be bothering anyone anymore. But giving the job to Lucian doesn’t seem like the best option, anyway, I’ll keep an eye on it and hope I’m wrong."

They continued talking for a long time, Elara was already tired and just wanted to leave, but Kael was very talkative, a bit repetitive, and took a long time to finish his thoughts.

Back at the mansion, Darius was running, he hadn’t done any physical training for a long time so he couldn’t run like he used to, even his arms were getting flabbier.

He only trained magic, but in combat this could be a disadvantage, relying on magic alone is a serious mistake. Because if the enemy is too fast, or they are outnumbered, then training everything you can is the best choice.

Some may think that the adventurer should focus on just one area, in most cases just the area of their class. But that’s not quite true, apart from the Holy Country of Elfron, some other countries in the south and west thought something similar, but this vision never reached the center.

He stopped, lay down on the ground and used healing magic on his body, but Kaly said that he was using magic too quickly, he should feel some of the muscle pain and then he should use healing magic.

She was, the muscle pain was caused by an acid that the body produces when doing activities too fast, the body ends up accumulating the acid and then it starts to cause pain. Over time, the body begins to excrete all the acid and the pain doesn’t appear as before. This knowledge was not common in this world, science did not advance, everything that was created was out of necessity.

One example is firearms, there are cannons in this world. But other weapons don’t, since it’s possible to attack with magic, you just need a mage and with that, you can make ranged attacks. Like archers, or even spearmen, who can throw their spears at the enemy, but it depends on the situation.

The pain caused by lactic acid was called strengthening pain. There was a belief that pain was the result of effort and meant that something was being developed in the body, such as health or muscles. Everyone believed something different.

It was valid to think like this.

"I’ll try to work harder to meet your expectations."

"This is new... don’t try too hard, just try to get back to how you were before. Little by little you’ll get stronger, now we need your clones."

Darius used the magic, the clones felt no pain or fatigue. That’s why they were perfect for manual labor and dangerous tasks, since if they died, they just disappeared and didn’t really die.

This was a rare magic, few people learned it and few people were able to keep more than one clone, because of the mana it consumed. Just trying to generate a clone consumed 1/3 of most mages’ mana, some even consumed half. That’s why few people tried to learn.

Maintaining the clone consumed a lot of mana, so sometimes working harder was better than creating a clone to do the job.

This magic wasn’t familiar, but even familiar spells are complicated, firstly because of the way they would be taught, the person had to be at least didactic. Another factor is mana consumption, because these familiar spells are tied to a lineage, when it leaves the lineage the mana consumption is up to 20 times higher.

Somewhat similar to elemental magic, which consumes more mana than elements with no affinity. Because of this, many people also disregard affinities, as the stones only measure the lowest mana consumption in relation to the elements.

It’s not as if you were chosen and could only use one type of magic.

For lunch Darius made pizza, everyone liked it the last time he made it, so he accepted the order.

He had given up on going to the Academy, he just sent a clone with lots of mana and let him do all the activities and use magic. For some reason the mana recovery ring didn’t work on the clones, so he preferred to increase the mana by generating it.

He couldn’t run the risk of a clone disappearing while he was doing something that involved magic.

Nyme also had a lot of mana, not like Darius, but her mana was enough to generate a clone of herself with plenty of mana and continue her potion-making tasks.

She wore the mana recovery ring and sometimes the necklace with the pendant.

The more mana, the more mana recovered with the ring and the necklace, so she was able to maintain her potion production unchanged.

At the factory gate a man was shouting, it sounded like he had seen a monster.

Nyme went to the entrance and the adventurers followed her, they were playing cards, but they had to do security work.

"What are you doing here?" Celene asked as she put an arrow in her bow. "This is private property, if you try to enter, you’ll have to suffer the consequences," she said without caring about the man’s situation.

He was on the ground and a golen had a sword pointed at him.

Nyme ordered the golen to go back to where he was, everyone in the factory could control the golens, this was the easiest way to avoid accidents like this.

There is a barrier in the factory, it prevents people from entering, but if the person insists the golens are activated and start moving, they don’t attack, they just threaten, but if the invader attacks, they will fight back, but they never make the first attack. This was changed after the attack the golen made on the principal of the Academy, Kaly wanted to avoid unnecessary damage.

"I am El, I am a messenger and I have come on behalf of His Majesty the King," he said as he rose from the ground. He then took out a letter from a bag similar to those used by letter carriers.

Nyme began to read the letter, as she was the third in command of the factory. The first was Darius, then Kaly and then her.

"Now that, we’re not idlers who can afford to go out for a visit." She paused for a long moment, "but all right, we’ll go for it."

The man watched how insolent she was, but in a way he understood, that being summoned by the King meant dropping what you were doing and attending. If not, the person would possibly be arrested or killed, depending on the King’s mood and the importance of the summons.

When Kaly arrived at the factory, she asked to read the letter, her face showing an expression of disdain; Darius wanted to miss it, but it was his duty to attend.

The letter asked the alchemists from the factory to go to the Castle and present themselves to the King.

Kaly didn’t know what the King wanted, but it didn’t matter much, his will is sovereign and must be obeyed, although she wasn’t one to follow authority figures other than the rulers of Drakonia, in this case she had to follow for Darius’ sake.

The next day the three of them were ready, Nyme seemed like a different person, the way she was dressed made Darius’ attention go to her. Kaly noticed and said: "You could ask her to marry you, it would be good for you, as it would keep the factory in the family."

This made Nyme blush, but Darius didn’t say anything back.
