Reincarnated as the fourth son of a noble and tamed an SS-rank dragon-Chapter 59: Incursion Into the Forest
Elara was in the forest with some adventurers. The Guild had a security force made up of one S-rank adventurer, two A-rank adventurers, and five B-rank adventurers. The group’s strength was balanced and each member was able to cover another’s shortcomings. The group was created with this in mind, it was only used in crises and it had been standing still for a few years.
Although the adventurers still carried out missions, they never did any more on behalf of the Guild, they were considered a wasted force because they were never really valued and were only remembered in situations like this.
The forest was devoid of any monsters, and some hypotheses were created, such as that they had fled, but that would be difficult to do without someone noticing, the moment several monsters came out of the forest, someone would surely run to the Guild to report what had happened. That’s why this hypothesis was the first to be ruled out.
The second hypothesis was that someone very strong entered the forest and killed all the monsters, although this was possible, it was very unlikely and would take a long time, so more adventurers would be able to take down monsters at the same time and the number of reports would be smaller. Even with them slaughtering monsters, it wasn’t something that took long, the next day all the monsters were gone, so this hypothesis was also ruled out.
The third hypothesis involved an internal migration, such as them entering caves and deeper parts, this hypothesis was the most likely, but the reason for this was something no one could think of.
The fourth hypothesis was that the monsters returned to a state of mana, as everyone knew that they could arise from the accumulation of mana, it would be sensible to think that if the mana ran out they would be consumed. Even though this has never been reported by anyone, not even in history is there anything about it. It was highly unlikely, but not impossible, since no one even knew how monsters were created.
So the group went to investigate.
Elara was dressed provocatively, she wore short clothes to facilitate her movements, but when she went into the forest with her group she wore even shorter clothes, she was almost an exhibitionist. The group was made up of mostly women, the only man was Ect, he was a bit of a freak, but he was controlled by everyone in the group.
Elara’s speed of movement was amazing, so no one in the group questioned it, but it was a bit tricky to deal with when a man came in.
The mission began in the afternoon, it was almost night and there was no sign of a monster, not even in the cave, which was strange, because the cave had several claw marks that showed that iron bears lived there. The marks didn’t indicate this, but the carcasses of some dead monsters indicated that it was the home of some monster. So it was easy to deduce that these bears lived there.
The strangest thing was the absence of goblins, they managed to live with these bears, it was a harmonious relationship, the goblins managed to make fires to keep the bears warm, and in return, they received part of the hunt and were guaranteed safety.
Not all bears and goblins did this, so I didn’t have much information about how the relationship began. When the first adventurers reported this fact, many people laughed at the absurdity of it, but gradually more people began to see the relationship between two species that are natural enemies. Then the information became a proven fact.
"Be careful," Elara said after hearing a noise.
After a few seconds, the silence remained, the sound probably coming from someone on the team who had stepped on a stick.
"This is strange, I can’t even find insects, not that I’m complaining, but it’s very strange."
The forest was full of mosquitoes at night, so the adventurers made bonfires and burned some king fruit leaves, the same as sugar, for some reason the smell of the burning leaves kept the insects away. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
They even drove away monsters like orcs and clawed bears, which were bigger than iron bears, but both were appreciated by some people, who said that the meat of these monsters was the best meat they had ever tasted.
While other people hate it, so you either love or hate bear meat.
They set up two tents and split into two groups, Ect staying with the other female adventurers.
Elara decided to keep watch first, then they would alternate, so they could guarantee safety if any monsters appeared.
They also alternated by day, they didn’t want the same person to be on watch for two days in a row, that would wear them out, rest is important in hunting situations and that’s why they had a system for deciding who would be on watch. The system was to toss a coin and whoever caught it could choose who would be on watch first.
It was interesting, to say the least, but often someone got hurt by falling to the ground or colliding with someone else.
The moon was very bright, after the first attack its color turned reddish, on the first day it was strange, but by the second people were getting used to it. Some people said that the sky had changed because of some release of mana, so the moon had changed too, but Elara knew that it hadn’t, because when mana is released, many monsters are created and some people enter a state of eternal sleep.
They don’t sleep forever but stay asleep for up to a few months because their bodies aren’t used to all the magical power that has been released.
But apart from that, people would notice the accumulation of mana, they would somehow feel it, even those less sensitive to mana.
Their bodies would become heavy and they would feel more tired, the sensation was similar to when you reach the end of a dungeon, with the difference that people who reach the end of the dungeon are already minimally accustomed to the situation, so for ordinary people the sensation would be much worse.
Elara continued to stare at the sky.
Three days passed and Darius was finishing his preparations for the tournament, he was full of tasks that he should have finished, but he put off until later, he procrastinated sometimes.
Many people were in the city, so it was very difficult to find any lodgings, so some adventurers pointed out the Guild and the Arena itself, Darius managed to recover a little more money, but it was still very little, but in a way having more people in the city helped a lot in sales.
But he wanted to sell other products, but he needed permission from Elara, who hadn’t yet returned from her mission. So he just tried it out with the maids and his family.
He decided to sell pizza and a dessert, but it was actually strawberry yogurt. He knew a little about the process, but he was missing some bacteria to ferment the milk.
Strawberries don’t exist in this world, so no one could copy his idea.
But there was a problem, it would be limited due to the process, and he wouldn’t be able to manufacture it on a large scale, at least not yet. He was looking for people to supply some cows, he wanted to produce his own milk.
The idea was simple, he would use the village for this, but new people would come to his land, but only when he had won it from the King.
The idea was interesting, but Kaly said: "you don’t know when it will happen, these people will make friends, some may even have romantic relationships with people from the village, then they will have children and possibly call the village home and refuse to leave."
She was right, so he changed his mind and decided to just find people and put them in the village and leave them there.
He was choosing people who lived on the street and preferably who already had families, as the work would be divided between members of the same family or more than one family.
The people in the village already had their professions, so finding new people was fundamental to the plan.
He has already done this with one family, they are now looking after chickens and providing eggs, then he added another family to help with the work. That way everyone wins.
But his brother Soren will benefit most because he will inherit the land that Darius saved from economic collapse, as he called the possible food and economic crisis.
The city was quiet, but soon the calm disappeared. Elara and her group were on their way back to the city, the group was famous and so some people approached the gate as soon as they heard someone mention the name of the adventurers.
They were covered in blood and one woman was being carried by Ect and another was missing one of her arms.
The woman Ect was carrying was the group’s healer, her name was Agat.
Of the eight people, none came back uninjured.
