How long had it been since I needed to fight seriously?

Six months or maybe more?

The last time I fought was against Ragnar.

I felt powerless.

I don’t really want to admit it, but fighting Ragnar showed me how weak I am.

So weak I couldn’t even save the one girl that really loved me.

I let out a tired sigh, pushing down my anxiety.

Now isn’t the time to doubt myself.

’Fourteen, some Low Overlord and some middle?’

I adjusted the grip on my katana as I looked around me.

The place was narrow with six pillars supporting the structure, not enough for a full-blown battle.

’Annoying but manageable.’

In the group of seven, those soldiers from Solace Kingdom had flanked me from either side.

Gone were their normal swords, replaced by unique weapons—axe, spear, chain, shield—.

An uncomfortable feeling surged through my body as I felt their killing intent.

They all had a aura of predators around them, as if ready to shred me into pieces.

’They had experienced quite a lot of battles.’

I glanced at Hayes, who was just at the edge of the hall.

"Can you handle the consequences, Hayes?" I curtly asked, making him halt.

He turned. "Don’t worry, Heir Himmel, no one will know how you died—."

"I am talking about them." I cut into his words, looking at the soldiers. "Can you handle the consequences of losing fourteen trained soldiers?"

His mocking gaze met mine as he ordered them. "Give him a swift deat—."

Removing the suppression on mana around me, I moved.

In a swift movement, I reached one of the soldiers.

The soldier quickly raised his broadsword, swinging it in a wild arc.

I sidestepped the trajectory, slicing my katana upward.

A head fell down, followed by a fountain of blood.

"Like you said," I began, gazing back at the frozen Hayes. "I will give them a swift death."

The hall turned into a chaotic battle.

A myriad of mana circles erupted in three soldiers’ hands.

A man with a war hammer charged forward.

I slowly spun in his direction.

He leaped forward, his war hammer high, simultaneously a crimson flame surged forward.

’hm?’

But at the last moment, the war hammer swallowed the flames.

The hammer slammed down, engulfing everything in flames.

Mana carried me out of danger as I felt the heat on my face.

The ground where I stood was now a crater of smoke.

The man leaped forward again, I feinted to my left, and he changed his direction, his side bare.

The katana split the man’s side, earning a scream that died down when I severed his head.

’Twelve.’

Hayes and the others had already moved out, leaving me with the soldiers.

The remaining soldiers regrouped, eyeing me warily as I touched the man’s body.

Andarnaur’s first ring marked his body as it floated around me.

The soldiers charged again.

A man with twin daggers rushed first.

I parried his daggers swiftly.

Behind him, a spearman thrust forward, his spear wrapped in a golden circle.

’Fuck.’

The spear’s tip blazed like sun, almost blinding me.

I closed my eyes shut, relying on the sound.

A hissing sound echoed, I spun and sliced.

A scream erupted in my ears as I hit the mark.

I thrust my katana at the source of the voice, the scream abruptly halted.

’Eleven.’

Five infernos of flames emerged from the soldiers’ hands as they rushed to engulf me.

The man with daggers rushed at me, blocking my path.

I pushed forward the floating body around me.

The man’s dagger impaled it.

I moved, grabbed his arm, and twisted.

His bone snapped, making him scream, which quickly died down as my elbow slammed into his throat.

But he did his work.

The five infernos surrounded me, making me unable to move.

--Use my ability, Father.

Olivia’s voice echoed in my head.

I did not think twice as I whispered, "Disturb."

A static-like energy burst forth from my body.

The crimson infernos twisted before they vanished.

Using the slight distraction of the soldiers, I clad my legs with mana as I moved near-instantly to the closest soldier.

Surprise filled his eyes, but his body moved on instinct.

He raised his shield, blocking my katana. The impact made the runes light up on his shield.

I spun again.

Doing what I had done thousands of times.

But instead of Neplh, I used mana.

A blade of condensed mana formed in my free hand.

My movement pushed the mana blade into the shield again.

It cut through the shield like paper, along with the soldier.

Mana screamed danger as an archer stood behind the now-fallen shield holder.

An arrow was nocked, clad with lightning on his bow, and he loosed it instantly.

A hexagonal barrier formed in front of me instinctively.

Lightning burst behind the shield, shaking the hall.

I tumbled back to my feet, nearly hitting one of the pillars as I felt my muscles spasm from the lightning.

A crimson surge of flames engulfed me.

I resisted the urge to use Muspelh as I made a wind magic circle, dispersing the flames.

A soldier with a spiked chain lashed out, wrapping it around my wrist.

He yanked, dragging me forward.

I rolled, dodging another arrow from the archer as I wrapped my hand around the chain and pulled.

The chain’s owner was effortlessly yanked towards me.

My fist burst his head like a balloon while I used his body as a shield from another arrow.

The ground beneath me started to break as someone used earth magic.

I slid one foot back on the broken tiles before bursting precisely at the archer.

He stood ready. An arrow rushed towards me.

Cladding my hand with mana, I grabbed the arrow, rotating it in my hand, and thrust it into the archer’s throat.

Tendrils of soil rushed towards my leg.

I leaped back, glancing to my rear, where a brute rushed at me with a cleaver.

I condensed another blade in my hand as I raised both hands to intercept the cleaver.

The tendrils of soil wrapped around my leg, making it impossible for me to move.

The brute sneered. "Got you."

For once, I heard one of the guards speak.

I smiled. "Wrong."

My mana blade dissolved, and the cleaver fell down, guided by my katana.

Before he could react, I raised my katana upward, stabbing him.

Glass crunched behind me.

I cut the soil tendrils as I turned.

The remaining six soldiers regrouped at the edge of the hall.

A soldier with a flail spun it overhead, spewing embers.

The flail sucked his owner’s mana crazily.

"Die, you freak!"

The soldier yelled, and fireballs erupted from the flail.

I quickly dove behind a pillar.

The fireballs licked the edge of the pillar, melting it.

The marble cracked, and the pillar shattered from the side.

Two soldiers slowly started to walk towards me.

’Hmm.’

I took a step back from the almost broken pillar.

I lowered myself before cladding my legs with mana.

A swift round kick broke the pillar, and it toppled over, crushing the nearby soldiers.

The flail-using soldier stumbled back.

I quickly rushed forth, simultaneously conjuring a blade in my free hand.

The flail soldier tried to move away, but my blade thrust into his side.

I cut open his side while I looked at the remaining three soldiers.

A chill ran down my spine as one of them made a magic circle of ice.

A blizzard appeared, freezing the air around the hall.

Ice started to creep up my foot while freezing my katana.

The same person rushed towards me with a sword.

I parried his sword with my mana blade while cracking the ice off my foot.

He tried to kick my gut, but I quickly dissolved the mana blade.

He stumbled forward.

I spun, reforming my mana blade in his gut.

He tried to shout but could only gurgle up blood.

Only two left.

They attacked together—an axeman and a swordsman.

The axeman’s weapon swung wildly, each swing heavier than before.

The swordsman thrust sneakily.

I sidestepped, my katana severing the man’s sword hand.

The axeman roared, heaving his weapon.

I ducked easily.

My katana impaled the axeman’s foot.

The man howled.

Grabbing his head with both my hands, I twisted.

His neck snapped, and his body fell down.

"Huff...."

I exhaled softly.

Silence settled.

I took in the destruction around the hall.

The hall lay in ruins—cracked pillars, scorch marks, ice melting into blood-pink puddles.

Rubbing my neck, I walked out of the hall.

Once again, I started to search for Hayes.

For some reason, he was still within the palace.

But my steps slowed down just as I closed in towards the backyard.

A soldier clad in bluish armor blocked my path.

"Stop, Elijah. Time, please!"

Heather’s ragged voice echoed through the palace corridor.

She took deep breaths, placing both hands on her knees.

Elijah skidded to a stop, turning back to her.

"Are you alright?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

"I am… fine." Heather straightened, her cat-like eyes locking onto his. "It’s just… we’ve been running in circles for a while."

"We don’t have a choice," Elijah exhaled, placing a hand on his waist. "And we still haven’t found her."

Heather took another deep breath before speaking. "Let’s go outside."

Elijah blinked. "What?"

"We’ve searched the entire palace," she said while tying her hair back. "I’m sure she’s not here."

"You might be right...."

Elijah’s words trailed off as his gaze shifted to the window.

Against the moonlit sky, a girl with wings wrapped around her waist flew, carrying another girl in her arms—like a princess.

Elijah bolted to the window and threw it open.

"Zenith!" His voice rang out, grabbing their attention.

Zenith veered toward them, hovering effortlessly, while Siersha watched the scene unfold with her usual calm.

"What’s happening?" Heather asked, her eyes fixed on Siersha.

"Pasithea," Zenith whispered grimly as she floated mid-air. "She’s in the backyard. And she’s in danger."

Their expressions turned serious.

"We need to move," Elijah said, already turning on his heels.

"Elijah."

Serisha’s calm voice made him halt.

"Yeah?" he asked, looking back at her.

"Tell Himmel about it…" she said, her voice low. "...And you’ll die a painful death."

Elijah let out a dry chuckle. "...Okay."

Zenith’s ember eyes lingered on Siersha for a moment.

Was she imagining things, or was there really something between her and Himmel?

"Let’s go," Heather said, rushing toward the backyard.

Elijah trailed behind her while Zenith soared through the sky.

They quickly reached the gate leading to the backyard.

Elijah burst forward, throwing the doors open.

Moonlight illuminated a lush garden filled with small animals and vibrant plants, their leaves swaying gently in the night breeze.

But his gaze remained fixed on the center of the yard.

A man sat on a small boulder, his posture relaxed.

Beside him, Pasithea lay—unconscious.

"Hm?" The man tilted his head slightly, his gaze landing on Elijah.

"I was expecting Heir Himmel to come save her," he sighed, shaking his head dismissively. "Not some randoms."

"Stay away from her," Elijah barked, drawing his sword.

The man—Marvis—raised an eyebrow before lazily pinching Pasithea’s cheek.

"Who?" he asked, feigning confusion. "You mean her?"

Elijah lowered his stance, muscles tensing as he prepared to charge.

"I’d think twice if I were you." Marvis rose to his feet, his expression unreadable. "It’s not har—"

He stopped mid-sentence, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied Elijah.

Then, almost absently, he muttered, "Wait… what’s your name?"

"…Elijah."

Marvis let out a chuckle. "Ahh, now I remember. You’re ’her’ son, huh?"

Elijah frowned. "Who?"

"You don’t know?" Marvis chuckled, shaking his head. "No one ever told you who your mother is?"

Zenith and Siersha landed silently beside him.

Elijah clenched his jaw, forcing himself to stay composed.

"Anyway…" Marvis stretched lazily. "Will Heir Himmel come or not?"

"He will," Siersha answered coolly. "But I’m not sure you’ll be around to meet him."

Marvis’s smirk widened, excitement flickering in his green eyes.

"I wonder…" he mused, voice mocking. "Will he be angry if you all died?"

Before anyone could react, the plants around him surged to life.
