A short while before the Class-51 began on their plan---

"...This match is so packed with more competent classes than I thought."

I was genuinely impressed by the effort of everyone.

"This is the finale for a reason. And I reckon, the quality is further high due to the vast number of high-ranking jobs the academy acquired this year."

Ester replied to my murmur with a reason. She was right, and I nodded gleefully.

"You sure are enjoying all of this, eh?"

"Well, of course! The detailed map Karua sent shows we're up against some challenges. Quite ingenious if I may add! To be honest, I did wonder about the situation of Class-12, and their alliance. So, I am astonished that they actually managed to bring even Class-5 in alliance, and Rina's class is already in cahoot. Moreover their strategy is just chef's kiss. Ingenious, and marvelous! Truly, very much Rina-esque!"

It was the map of the field I had asked Karua from, which she sent via black cat.

My several assumptions were cleared out when I checked it. Like, I was sure Class-12 was collaborating with someone, but not who. but after glancing at the map, everything became clear. First, it appeared that northwest was where half of the classes had gathered, which included Class-5, Class-12, and Class-51. And then, there was a 4th base which had been completely transformed into a fort.

At least, the three classes were in alliance. But, the bulk of attention was put in the fortresses.

Fortresses. This tactic, to reinforce the base and turn it into a legitimate fortress, was quite effective even in the game.

By fortifying the base, it allowed ample time to stop the advances of attackers, while also granting defenders a window to get their act together.

This tactic mimicked the strategic location importance that one could see in the «Rhombus Field» of E-rank guild promotion test. Maybe she had thought of it from there? Anyway, basically, while the importance of matter in the Rhombus field was to capture that strategic (central) base, the Fortified Base turned itself into that strategic point.

There were multiple advantages to follow up on this; like, much easier to defend which was obvious, the walls of the fortress nearly touched the boundary of the square which allowed them to swiftly juggle between two places and et cetera. It was also easy to split enemy forces and headhunt them individually.

Defense, and attack---it was two words, oh wait, actually that would count as dozens of birds, with one stone.

However, this could only be achieved by the help of production jobs because of the rigid requirement of those «Barricade» items. So I hadn't been expecting this to appear in the match of 'Combat Department'---no, wait a minute. Wasn't one of the guys in Class-12 a dwarf?

«Dwarf» were extremely oriented toward production jobs even in contrast to other «Human» categories. But they also had quite decent combat role jobs, so I wasn't surprised to see him in «Combat Department». If anything, their combat roles had been quite explored as well.

However, when lumped together, their strength was indeed in production jobs. I was thoroughly caught off-guard for this reason. Perhaps, Rina had already broken through many boundaries of strategist if she had managed to pull all of this together by herself.

It really heartened me to see her growth. She had come so far!

Ahem, anyway, the fact was I didn't know the bases in the north were all fortified. There were just too many gaps in the map that made it harder to link. I presume Karua herself wasn't sure what she was watching, so the map reflected its maker's ambiguous nature.

To confirm the situation, I had Ester come alongside me to check the bases, and it finally dawned upon me that our opponents had chosen the «Fortified Base» route. Maybe, had I known about it earlier, I would have arranged a force and taken down the supposed production job-esque job holders and thwarted their plan. However the bases were almost completely enclosed, saving the last touch up, when we made it to them while eliminating what seemed to be alliance's scouts in the south.

Furthermore, reading on Karua's report, it appeared they'd erected yet another 4th fortress near the mid western edge of map to pave the path for reinforcement in case the other fortress were under siege. Tut-tut, they'd really outdone—ahem, I mean became a problem for us. Promptly, I made my decision to crash against their wave with our full force.

However, the situation was far from over for us. Apparently, Class-3, Class-10 and Class-9 in the east had also joined hands according to Karua. The leaders of the three classes, along with their members, had caught the team of Rika, Pamela, and Misato in a siege.

My words, I really was a bit nervous about the situation. We didn't have any of our members nearby to support them. Well, technically there were three from Machos, and the Quartet, however I couldn't be sure they would've managed to achieve anything.

In a turn of misfortune, I was busy together with Ester and Celestine to deal with the scouts from the south. Man, and I so, so dearly wanted to join in the fray. Dang it!

Ultimately, I decided to borrow the hand of nearby Mert, contacting him via the black cat of Karua. I was honestly already going to have a negotiation with Class-8, so this was just the perfect chance.

I wouldn't have been sure riding on hope of Mert either, that he could save our Class-1 members from a pinch, however the deal was sealed considering it was the chance to catch the leaders of three classes en masses.

As long as they're in the same boat, Class-8 would've no choice but to work together. Either way, it all ended in our members safely escaping from the predicament.

Well, this also meant we owe Class-8 one. Let's see how this spells out in the future~.

But gosh, I had so wanted to sneak in that battle. However I was fettered with the cause of the southwest area—it was the closest location to our base, which would've posed a problem if someone else hijacked it---that I couldn't. —*O' Dear Life, why must thou be so cruel?*

Though afterward, I stopped receiving the further report, so I didn't know what actually transpired there, but I had faith in our elite members. They shouldn't be so easy to go down.

Now I have to wait for the following information. Oh wait, considering the time—we're almost 20 minutes in the game, maybe a Recap moment would be the faster way to know the situation.

And soon, the giant screen broadcasted the highlighted moment. And good lord, I was befuddled. Who could've thought we had two alliances actually, each with three classes collaborating together!

It was if they'd given up on ranking, a surprise since only one could be the overall victor in this finale. Nevertheless, they'd decided to tread on this path, and this was a path left only when they're facing a mammoth of an opponent.

So I presume they're dreading the force Class-1 was.

Fuhaha, that was such delightful news. To think we'd been considered such a force they decided to forsake their chances of victor! Absolute Carnavale!

A grin unconsciously crept on my lips.

"......So, what's our next step? Should we probe their strength?"

Ester murmured while eyeing one of the said fortresses. The opponents were in the middle of further strengthening their defense after building the fortress.

Either way, we were past the point to probe their strength.

"No, we're returning back."

"Hmm. Are you sure?"

"Yup, or well, it's actually to gather our force. We're not going to see any more scout coming our direction, which means we're out of the preparation phase. It's time to engage into big moves. And our initial goal was to eliminate scouts, which we had."

I called out for a retreat as our first phase in our strategy had been achieved. The area was secured and scouts eliminated.

It was now counterproductive to stay any longer. If our opponent decided to send forth a big force, it would be a fool's errand to engage against them with only a few of us.

I checked the time, and confirmed 20 minutes had passed. On the way, I checked out on other members and summoned every team back to our base.

—However Karua was missing among them.

—Instead, what returned was her black cat.
