Still, it was a mystery even to me why the apple tree was specialised in fire magic of all. Was it because the apple's skin was red? Hmm.

Such useless thoughts went past my mind as I jumped around the burning spots, and slashed at the «Apple Wood» from its left flank.

"Rooooaaa—"

I had already changed the element attribute of my sword to fire, field boss's weakness, or basically most of the plant based monster's weakness. The slash dealt quite a good number of damage.

"Its weakness is «Fire Magic»! And for details, it's resistance against «Ice Magic» and «Lightning Magic»!"

"Why these elements of all!"

Lana grumbled, but alas, such was the way of life. Given the ice element resistance, Karua's dagger «Ice Me» clearly fell into this category, and her damage, too, slightly fell apart.

"Hn, it's still not my enemy. «Scale Break»! «Star Boost Tornedo»!"

Karua lowered the field boss's defense with her skill, and then delivered a multi-hit combo. Her damage was 80% of what it used to be. It appeared she was trying to bridge the damage gap by raising the frequency of her skill.

"«Lance Charge»! «Flash Stab»!"

Ester followed after Karua, accumulating the damage with singular attacks. It was also a strategic choice. The one-hit attacks had the advantage of timing, allowing her to break her combo and dodge if the need arises. Hence, the first step should've been to gauge the attack frequency of the target, and a close combatant couldn't be sufficiently cautious.

"«Impact Bash»! «Shock Hammer»!"

Sierra performed a ramming attack from the front, using only her big shield. If she had switched to «Art of War» skill, specialising in counter-attacking and so on, then the Art of Defense would've entered the cooldown, so she kept that as backup.

She also tried to inflict debuff on the field boss, but they're not normal monsters. A one or two attack wouldn’t be enough to achieve that. The damage she dealt with «Shock Impact» was quite average, but it wasn't all in vain. The debuffs like Paralysis accumulate over time.

There would surely be an opportunity to «Paralysis» boss, and it seemed like Sierra was out on a trial run to see how many more attacks she would've to do to Paralysis this boss.

"Alright, everyone's patched up! Here I begin then! Hehe, come out my swords of illumination—«Sacred Shining Swords»!"

Affirming everyone had been healed, Lana finally jumped on her dearest wish; switching to the attacker role. Her jubilant voice echoed as she unleashed her skill. Despite the support job, she sure was fond of the attacker role.

The four big swords appeared in the sky, and launched themselves toward the canopy part of the «Apple Wood». «Apple Wood» was a big monster, its height reaching 6 metres at least, so it allowed ranged attackers to target the boss easily without having to worry about allies.

"ROOOO—"

"! It's about to attack!"

"—«Cover Shield»!"

And now, the baton to lead the offense was back on our opponent's field. The field boss directed its eight branches in Sierra's direction, and launched a concentrated barrage. Unlike the scattered AoE to catch us in one big swoop from earlier, the spells focused on one singular point—Sierra.

The concentrated barrage was strong enough to put any typical tank in jeopardy. Sierra, though, repeated the same sequence she had during the beginning.

"—«Divine Shield»!"

"Woah, that looks so sick!"

«Divine Shield». This 4th order skill was the strongest defensive skill Sierra had in her arsenal. The four floating shields gathered at once point, each sticking against each other from their base, creating a big cross.

Honestly, it was a pretty cool scene. Any gamer love would be spellbound by the scene of controlling and fusing four floating shields in one at one's will. I, too, was spellbound by her shield.

"Hey, Zephyr. Stop staring, and give your command!"

"Hu—ahh, my bad!"

Whoops. Perhaps I had stared too hard, Sierra yelled, her face slightly tinged red. ...Wait, was she really angry? It didn't seem for some reason...

"It's barrage is about to come off! Get ready, though beware of any apple flying your way from the top of its head!"

And soon, the concentrated barrage came to an end. Then it was our counter-attack time!

But this was round two. We had to be careful as one of the field boss's gimmick was to drop the apples hanging on its branches, pick them up, and toss them into our mouths before shooting them like those automatic pitcher machines. At once, the field boss could load up with 30 of them, so any misstep could cost one too much.

What about the apples that fell during our attack? Fortunately, the boss didn't have a passive moveset to use them whenever available. Though the apples had gimmick on them. When they fell, they could inflict random debuffs if they fell over you. And that was something even more dangerous than receiving damage.

"Ah..."

"«Purification Prayer»!"

Alas, there were too many apples falling down, and one struck Ester. A «Poison» debuff icon appeared above her HP bar. Lana immediately cleansed it. Swift as ever.

Ohh, the field boss started to load the apple on its mouth. It's baseball—or maybe apple pitching time?

"It's getting ready to shoot apples. Be careful!"

"Your Highness Lana, please move behind me."

"I know! «Defense Blessing»"

It was a ranged attack, but sometimes the boss would ignore the target and indiscriminately launch its attack over a wide area. And the apples packed a punch, a lot. Also, it was considered to be a blunt attack, rather than a magic attack. So, it was not uncommon to see a member who had come prepared, donning the anti-magic equipment, would get knocked out.

I would even say it was a rather common occurrence, because the upper floors of this dungeon mainly relies on magic attacks.

"Poof-poof-poof-poof——!!|

Heh, that was an oddly calming sound. You know, like popping those bubble wrap?

Anyway, it shot a total of 24 apples, and the target was... Sierra. Maybe, it could also be Lana, but Sierra was protecting her behind. I was relieved since I knew she could handle it.

"«The Citadel Shield»!"

Sierra's choice of skill was defensive skill effective against physical attack. The apples collided against the Sierra's shield, raising a dull thumping sound. The impact caused apples to burst out in pieces at collision.

"Close combatants, it's our time! Lana, keep an eye on Sierra's HP! «Holy Sword»! «Vanquish Lightning»!"

"Hn! «64 Force»!"

"Then, I am starting! «Raging Spear War Dance»!"

"Roooaaarrrr!"

When the field boss was locked into one attack, it couldn't switch to another. Apple pitching was one of the moments for attackers to take advantage of the field boss's lack of movement, and bash it with everything they'd.

After that, it was the same situation. We continued to dodge while playing hit-and-run style, and taking an intermittent chance to shave away the field boss's HP. Before its last dying breath, «Apple Wood» used its ultimate attack, a tsunami of fire, trying to swoop everyone at once. It didn't pass Sierra, however. She raised everyone's resistance against fire magic by using the «Fire Guard» skill. The coup de grace was delivered by Lana. The huge sword, glowing in a sacred aura, gracefully cut through the air and nailed the «Apple Woods», reaping away its remaining HP at once.

The field boss disappeared amidst its sea of effect particles.

It was... quite an easy fight, if you ask me. Then again, we all had advanced jobs, too overpowered for this. And frankly, Sierra was the epitome of a tank!

"We did it!"

"Hey, look at so many apple drops!"

"Apple Curry~! Apple Curry~!"

As it remains, the «Apple Wood» had left behind a... mountain of apple, and a single treasure chest, gleaming in silvery radiance.

Well, one thing led to another, and the chance to open it was turned to Karua. Inside, there was a recipe. After deciphering it, we learned it was a cooking recipe for «Apple Sweets».

Then I thought, maybe it was bound to occur? Since everything we did was literally raising the flag for this. Everyone... probably had a good part of their attention directed toward what delicious thing they could get to eat.
