"Then let's see how trap fares."
"Mmh?!"
All of a sudden, the horse's pace grew weaker.
Cassand glanced below, and noticed a meshed, rope made snare sticking to horses's legs. The snare was pulling on the horse while they continued to advance through the force.
They'd been afflicted with the «Slow» crowd control effect, an effect from «Mirage Trap». It was the 4th order skill, an advanced version of Shizu's «Landmine Placement» skill. Unlike before, when she could only use landmine traps, the new upgrade unlocked many other traps to use. And as the name implied, they're typically hidden from the naked gaze.
To go through it again, Shizu had placed her traps in advance for the ambush, and had kept her opponent's occupied with «Flash Bullet» until it was too late for them to realise they'd walked into the trap.
This cancelled the «Drive» skill Cassand had activated to mount a charge attack, slowing them down to get a target on them.
"Now's the chance! «Multi-Burst»!"
"«Flare Burst»!"
Mert and Shizu immediately launched their offensive. However—
"Trivial stuff! «Dark Blood Buster»!"
Taking the risk of friendly fire, Cassand unleashed an arc shaped energy attack of darkness attribute, destroying the traps.
"Scatter now!"
" "Let's do it! «Boost Drive»!" "
Once the traps were out of the picture, the knights promptly activated their offense with familiarity, and narrowly escaped from the wide area attacks coming from them.
As the one who had always sought skirmishes to handle the matches, t1 showed their expertise and broke free. Keeping their vigilance up, they immediately began with adaptive measures.
"You're good at it."
"Haaaaa!!"
Cassand sniped the timeframe Eden's members were scattered apart, their attention on other knights, and mounted a charge attack.
"Take this—«Dark Crusher Edge»!"
"«Iron Wall»!"
Sierra, however, put his offense to halt.
From his research, with reference from inter-class competition, Cassand figured Sierra was an immovable wall against ranged offense. But, if he tried hard, he could get her in close combat. After all, he saw her as the most dangerous among all.
"I am keeping her busy! Do your thing!"
"«High Sword»!"
"Hn. «64 Force»!"
"«Multi Strikes»!"
"«Raging Spear War Dance»!"
The other advanced job members of Cassand prompted their fourth order skill, surrounding the «Eden»'s member between their aim, and took their shot at Mert and Shizu.
Karua and Ester however intercepted them... no, it appeared as if they did intercept them, but much to their expectation—
"It didn't even tickle!"
"Hn-nya?!"
The longsword holding boy, «Pegasus Knight», remained unfazed at the face of opponent's attack and delivered a heavy swing of his longsword, blowing Karua away. He was LV15 in his advanced job.
"«Stun Lightning»!"
"«Magic Bullet»!"
The counter-attack came with a cost, leaving the Pegasus Knight imobile while he recovered from skill action. Mert and Shizu responded with support fire.
"Rgh!"
The Pegasus Knight used his shield as cover, and ran past them. The second advanced job member was held back by Ester.
They got Eden on this one, but if there was one thing, Eden had never lost in coordination. Just as it appeared they'd entered a stalemate, Rina's message ran in their mind.
«Temple Saber’s three member squad has slowed down, presumably to lock their timing. They're planning a surprise attack from the flank!»
Apparently, the three members of t1 attempt on targeting the «Northeast Giant Castle» was a fiend, and instead, they're eyeing the opportunity to catch Eden's members in a surprise assault.
Had it been anyone else, this could've been a checkmate move.
After all, they're in a stalemate, evenly matched with minor differences, but the reinforcement could easily topple that balance. And under the lack of enough firepower, it could've collapsed them.
Unfortunately for t1, Rina saw through their feints.
"They're getting reinforcement!"
"You aren't going anywhere!"
Cassand bellowed just as Ester's warning went up. The northern squad was just moments away from them.
And just as they'd—
«They're here! Now's the time, Shizu-san!»
"Turn on—«Multi-Trap»!"
Rina reminded Shizu, her words carrying implicit meaning, prompting Shizu to invoke some sort of her skill.
Just as Shizu's voice echoed, an explosion occurred two squares north of Mert and rest.
"W-what just happened?! Luce?!"
«You got them nice, Shizu-san! Two of them fell to it! It's just a pity it wasn't enough to eliminate them, to no one's surprise.»
Earlier, Rina had instructed Shizu to set-up Hannah's handmade landmine item at the designated spots. The unexpected trap engulfed two of the three incoming opponents, turning the tables on them. The aftermath didn't just end there, too.
«You should act now, Your Highness Lana!»
The next message reached Lana. A moment later, four huge swords of light appeared out of Eden's base, and flew off.
With surprise attack coming to failure, Rina sprung up Lana for the counterattack. It just happened that the north's area was within Eden's base bound, aka Lana's strike territory.
The giant swords of light made direct contact with the northern squad. One of them, a basic job member, was eliminated promptly.
Eden's group jumped on the opportunity. Shizu broke into a dash, sprinting toward the sole unscathed survivor of the trip—Luce. She was the same person whom Renandal had sought some advice from.
Now, t1 were left with six members on this end. And since they'd fallen into Lana's striking range, the confrontation had turned a true 6v6. One of the surprise attackers was a healer who'd barely managed to keep themselves alive with healing skills, but against Luce's agility, the healer could barely keep the pace.
t1 were acting just within Rina's prediction—until it went haywire all of a sudden the next moment.
"It...It's hereeeee!! Give back «White Throne»!! «Dark Knight: Berserk Mode»!"
Cassand's eyes turned bloodshot as soon his eyes landed on Lana's «White Throne».
Cassand had «The Dark Knight of Hell», a high-tier mid-rank advanced version of «Dark Knight». The job came with many darkness attribute related skills, with stats oriented toward the attacker role. Well, there were only a handful people out there willing to take upon the job which required users to lose their rationale and enter mindless state—berserk mode.
Cassand's mind instinctively invoked the berserk category still as soon as he saw the w1—the point of singularity in life of his guild as of late that had been turned upside down.
His bulky physique grew even more bigger atop his herse. Even the broadsword in his hand grew larger. Darkness covered him like a cloak. With the full-bodied armor donning him, he had completely turned into the incarnation of darkness.
"!! «Divine Shield»!"
"Uooooooo!!"
Sierra hurriedly controlled her autonomous shields and merged them together to wedge a cross shield before Cassand, the latter having surrendered himself to insanity. It was an overwhelmingly robust defense skill, yet Cassand somehow teared himself out of its interference.
He was running straight toward Lana.
"!! He got out!"
Sierra was bewildered. And that only meant one thing—they're in a precarious situation.
He didn't attack like monsters in their enraged mode, but he gave no regards to his body and just used his strength to slip out. It was an act so bizarre even Sierra couldn't process it well.
She had never seen something of this sort. It was like, Cassand somehow still managed to hold on to his obsession for the w1 despite losing all his ego, and surpassed even the impossible.
"Lana-sama!"
"STOP THERE!"
"Do not cross over! «Full Throttle»!"
Ester's voice lost its usual calm, and immediately gave chase after him, but she lagged behind. Berserk mode also enhanced agility after all.
"Hn! Unique Skill—«Number One Sonic Star»!"
In that moment, Karua took her action, the only one who could've possibly made it out to. But much to her dismay—
"Stop —«Star Burst: Rain Edge»!"
"Uoooooo!! GET OUT OF MY WAAAAY!!"
"Gaah!"
Karua hurled several consecutive attacks from the flank, but it barely scratched Cassand. He didn't even stagger or was knocked-back, an effect of berserk mode that allowed him to ignore any pain.
With nothing to falter him, Cassand's huge broadsword caught Karua mid-action of her attack squarely, and blasted her away.
She barely had any defense stacked during the attack, and suffered greatly.
Albeit, just in time, it allowed Mert enough window to insert himself.
"«Holy Break»!"
The skill, capable of breaking skill effect, couldn't nullify the berserk state, but the one weakness to it was holy attribute. Unlike Karua's offense which didn't even tickle him, Mert's skill registered a huge damage.
But Cassand obsession burn even more fiercely.
"«Freezing Blizzard»! «Stun Lightning»! «Shining Flush»! «Holy Overflow»! «Mega Shine»!"
"Move oooooout!!"
Till the very end, Cassand tanked every skill of Mert. The latter had already reached within the range to strike Mert.
There was no more room left for chase, nor any hope to stop him. In this critical moment, Mert showed a determined expression, and unleashed his final attack—just in the moment Cassand's sword, clad in mist of darkness, pierced through him.
"«Apocalypse»!"
It was a direct attack.
—BOOOOOM!!
A huge explosion ensues. The final, and ultimate attack of Mert went off at point-blank.
And when the fumes and smoke cleared apart... neither Mert, nor Cassand was within sight.
