Chapter 54: I’m a Parrot

’Oh! It’s not that bad. Tastes like blueberry.’

After drinking the potion, I opened my eyes immediately, expecting to see myself standing behind the dead end.

’Wh-what the hell?!’

But instead, I found myself standing in what looked like solid darkness. Under me, all I could see was only absolute darkness despite enhancing my eyes, and all around me, everything was either black or dark, blackish blue.

From the mountains to the plants and even the water ponds, everything was on only those 2 colors.

’Where am I? Is this a mind attack? A trap? A part of the maze?’

Doing my best to not panic, I thought about all the possible reasons for why I ended up here, but I couldn’t confirm any of them.

"Squake Squake!"

All of a sudden, I heard a sound under me. My eyes widened as I found out it was something like parrots. But unlike any parrots I had seen before, this one had inky black feathers and blackish blue irises.

"$҉Q҈U҉A҉K҉E҉!"

Suddenly, a chilling, horrifying sound came out of the small parrot, and before I could react, it flew towards me and entered my body.

"Ah! Get out! Hey!"

I rolled on the ground trying to make it leave, then I used my mind eye, but couldn’t find it anywhere inside me. What was even more surprising was that I couldn’t even sense its soul!

As a last hope, I let a part of my soul leave my body and looked directly at it.

Finding nothing in the front, I made my soul turn around and show me its back.

Then I finally saw it.

A tattoo of a black parrot with blackish blue irises was getting absorbed slowly by my soul’s back.

After looking at it with confusion for a moment, I came to a realization.

"Oh, looks like my soul has a defense mechanism or something."

Sighing in relief, I sat on the ground and stared at the parrot tattoo as it kept vanishing with each passing second.

Eventually, it got devoured completely, then a surge of information and new power entered my body, aura core, and soul.

My eyes widened as I realized that wasn’t supposed to be the potion effect, but before I could think about the reason, my vision changed, returning to the former scene of the dead end.

As I tried to understand what just happened, I heard some voices behind me.

"Mmm, the mana cleaner works well. That’s the best water I tasted in my life!"

"The water problem got fixed. We will count on you, Andrea."

"Yeah, I will only drink your fresh liquid from today onwards!"

"Motherfucker! Don’t say it like that!"

After turning around, I found my team testing the mana cleaner casually, as if I didn’t just get sent to another dimension.

’Strange. Was it really related to the mind? It looked so real though...’’

"Did you drink it? What is the difference now?" Cutting off my thoughts, Celestina asked with a bright smile on her face.

Instead of answering her, I decided to show her immediately.

With a simple thought, a black parrot with blackish blue irises appeared on my shoulder.

"How is it?"

"...."

Celestina and Andrea stared at me silently, while Maxwell’s mouth was wide open in shock.

Holding my laugh, I coughed and started explaining: "I can now transform my soul into this parrot form. This form seems to be able to fly with a high speed and has a strong bite. Oh also, it can go far away from my body without troubles. I think I can work as a great scout later."

I paused for a moment, letting them absorb the information before continuing:

"Additionally, I got a very small improvement in my physical power and aura core, but I think it’s barely visible."

’There is also the part about my connection with the abyss, but I myself don’t know what that means honestly...’

Suddenly, Celestina grabbed me and took me into her embrace.

Yes, me. Because that parrot wasn’t a pet, but literally me!

"Ohhh, it’s so cute! Can I name it?" Celestina said happily as she kept hugging, kissing, and patting me. But my focus was on only one thing—

’It?’

’Did she just forget that the parrot was literally my soul? I’m not a pet!’

Sighing inwardly, I told her that she could do whatever she wanted.

From the side of my eye, I saw Andrea and Maxwell looking at me with even more intense envy than all the previous times.

I still couldn’t understand why. If my soul had bones they would be crushed by now.

"I will name it Yuno. What do you think?"

I resisted the urge to yell at her and just said it’s good.

"I...want to get a name too..." Andrea muttered under his breath, probably to himself, but I heard him almost clearly.

"Cough!" Maxwell coughed, almost aggressively, before talking: "Anyway, let’s try the key! I want to see how it works."

"Oh, right!’ Andrea got out of his daze and took a blue key out of his pocket.

We watched in anticipation as he walked to the dead end and put the key on the wall.

He rotated the key to the left, and immediately, a part of the wall began gleaming with a blue light taking the shape of a door.

Andrea suddenly started sweating, his eyebrows narrowed as he looked at the door dangerously.

The next moment, he took the key out of the wall and turned to us.

"I’m almost out of mana, it’s either the other side is too far or this key really drains too much mana."

Once he finished talking, the door in the wall disappeared.

I looked at the key in disappointment. I was hoping that it could work as an emergency exit, but it seemed that we made the wrong choice.

Sighing again and ignoring the bomb that Maxwell threw at the wall furiously, I returned my sou to my body out of Celestina’s hug.l

"Sorry, I need MY entire Soul to test the soul threads. I won’t take much time.

After hearing me, she nodded in disappointment and some sadness.

I felt a little bad towards her, but I was finally free!

Walking away, I finally sat while resting my back on a wall.

Then, I focused my consciousness on my abyssal pocket.

When I opened my eyes, I was met by the usual scene with floating items, wills, and souls all around me, but there was a difference this time.

The flat land I always stood in was replaced by solid darkness like the one I saw earlier.

Seeing this new change and remembering the potion’s original effect, a strange theory appeared in my mind.

"Was... was that place the abyss?"

I didn’t know much about the abyss. All these years I thought it was just an imaginary place in the stories I used to hear in the orphanage, but all these things confirmed its existence.

"Haah... there is no point in thinking about it."

I shook my head and focused on the current matter.

I raised my finger and focused on it. After a moment, my finger started dismantling until it turned into black soul threads.

My lips curled into a wide smile. "It works!!"

Now, all I had to do was make some experiments before leaving this place.

My eyes landed on a soul that was shaped as a black wolf.

The wolf started trembling after sensing my gaze.

"Hehe, let’s start with you."
