Reincarnated Into a Shounen Anime-Chapter 38: World Is Changing
~Inside The Headmaster’s Office~
Headmaster Yamamoto was smiling with an expectant smile at the person in front of him. She wore a difficult expression. Clearly uncomfortable. But after a few moments of contemplation, she sighed.
"Alright grandpa. Can you knock it off? I’m not a kid anymore. I’m a teacher now. You can’t keep treating me like a child... and can you talk? Like actually talk? You’ve been smiling like that from the moment I came here."
Yamamoto Rayna said as she shook her head in exasperation at her grandfather’s antics.
"Hohoho~ No matter how old you become, you will still be the sweet little girl to me. Hohoho ~~"
Headmaster Yamamoto said laughing while stroking his beard. He finally leaned back.
"So how was your day little girl?"
"Grandpa! Argh! You’re impossible! Fine! Do whatever you want! I don’t care anymore! And my day was fine! Hmph!"
Rayna pouted and turned her head away which made the Headmaster laugh again. All her cool teacher vibe was nowhere to be seen. In her place was a granddaughter that was chatting with her grandfather.
"Alright Rayna~. Sigh~. Where did my sweet little girl go? Sigh~... So? How was your day?"
"Is that why you called me? Just to annoy me?"
"...I-I was also asking how was your day dear..."
Headmaster said with a troubled expression. Well, he couldn’t say that wasn’t the part of it, but definitely not out loud.
"Fine... I guess."
"So, how are the top students of this year’s first year? Especially Alexander?"
Rayna didn’t answer.
"Don’t like him that much do you?"
Rayna paused for a moment, feeling conflicted before shaking her head. Headmaster stroked his beard and hummed.
"Because of his sadistic tendencies?"
Rayna thought for a second before slowly nodding.
"Rayna, you have taught worse. So what’s the problem?"
Rayna was silent for a while. Her eyes downcast, frowning heavy in contemplation. Her arms folded.
"I don’t know grandpa... its... it just doesn’t feel right to me. Like, its like the kind of disappointment when your first impression of someone you genuinely thought was a good person turns out to be bad..."
"But Alexander is a good person."
"What makes you say that? If he can torture people like that then there is no guarantee that he won’t or hadn’t done it on someone innocent. Even if the triplets aren’t exactly good people themselves, but that kind of methodical psychological damage is unnecessary. Evil. Sick. Do you know what’s the condition of the triplets? They are not good, the doctors are saying Alexander had broken them so thoroughly that their psychological anchor is being rebuilt around him. Only time will tell if it will be for the better or worse."
Rayna unloaded all the pent up frustration she had bottled up. Headmaster got the reason for dislike. His granddaughter was feeling frustrated. He understood why. He also knew where the situation of the twins will end up. But he still can’t tell if that is better for them or not.
"I see what you mean Rayna. But what I mean by good person is, he is sociable and scalable by normal standards but when the mismatch happens, frictions happen. Like your feeling now. But you need to understand that situations some people grow up in aren’t scalable through normal standards. So you judging his actions based on that is wrong. As a teacher and an elder to the new students. You don’t need to accept him. Just don’t dislike him or hate him.
"Alright ~ Alright old man. You don’t have to lecture me... so tell me, since the time this Academy started 1000 years ago, not once have you accepted a special admission student. So why now? Do you know how much pressure that is creating on that kid? Tsukasa Carico right? Why did you choose him? What’s so special about him? Other than Him awakening traces of a Mythical Aspect of his Mythic-Rank Bloodline?"
Rayna looked at her grandfather with doubtful eyes. Headmaster leaned back in his chair. Hands resting on the armrest. Expression unreadable.
"Carico is the catalyst."
Headmaster said after a while. It made Rayna raise an eye brow.
"You mean catalyst for [World Changing Event]? Was it [Return of Myths]? The event prophesied and indicated by Cowaresis’s appearance?"
Headmaster slowly got up from his chair and walked towards the window. Rayna’s eyes following him. He stood in front of the window. Looking at the horizon. His eyes glistening with otherworldly luster. As if he could see what no one else could.
"[Return of Myth] is already over."
"...What?"
"Indeed. As you have heard. [World Changing Event: Return of Myth] is already over. It ended a 100,000 years ago. At the time of when the Sea God was rising. He was supposed to be the catalyst. Although his rise did change the structure and economy of the world, essentially fulfilling the requirements to be considered a [World Changing Event]. But ultimately, it failed."
Rayna felt her mind stop working for a moment before the information slowly sank in. And along with it came countless number of questions. But she calmed her raging mind and heart. She looked at her grandfather’s back. She knew that he will not lie to her.
"How can a [World Changing Event] fail? And what does Cowaresis’s appearance suggest this time?"
Rayna asked a series of questions. Headmaster did turn his head back.
"Not every event succeeds dear. No matter how good the stage is or how many audience there is, if the performer is not there, the event is bound to fail. The performer in this case is the Sea God. He was supposed to be the catalyst for [Return of Myth]. But after his death, the event stopped and failed."
Rayna contemplated for a while before asking another question that just came to her mind.
"If that’s the case, then what [World Changing Event] is going to happen. And how is Carico the catalyst?"
"Hoho~"
Headmaster laughed softly. He tore his gaze from the horizon and got back to his chair.
"This event is [World Changing Event: Return to Origin]"
"...And...?"
Rayna tried to press for more info but Seeing her grandfather’s smile, it was clear that he will not tell her. So she just sighed...
