Chapter 128: Chapter 128

There is only one explanation for what has happened and it is as odd as the situation itself, I think to myself, is that something strange may have happened with the mix we got ourselves into, from my ongoing evolution state that mixes and changes my whole body and constitution, to him biting me on the spot and pulling that same boiling energy inside himself, creating some sort of connection that way.

Evolution on itself is something unique and mysterious, it would not surprise me that such side effect came from him biting me alongside it.

Which reminds me, I should have a look at my status now:

Status: Oddly calm about the situation

A lot has changed, including the way the information is displayed by my advanced appraisal status level, but what catches my attention de most is the new title earned, Fierce Protector, which might as well after all I have been through, although I wonder what difference it makes overall since titles are more... achievements of my then status on themselves, and the ominous one, Demon Bond, a very fitting name I suppose, and that proves that something definitely happened in our exchange beyond making my neck sore.

"Next time go easy on my neck." I say without thinking, unable to turn and stretch much of that side before hissing with the soreness, trying to stretch it a little to no avail.

"Next time?" Says Ethan excitedly, exuding a puppy aura with my choice of words that earns him a raise of my eyebrow. "Sorry my King Seraph, I will be more careful... next time."

He enjoys tantalizing me does he not? At least is all forgiven when he takes the matter seriously and starts massaging my neck and shoulder on the side as the fox scouts to the other side, alleviating some of the tension by pressing and rounding the right spots.

Before he can get any funny ideas out of this, or any more than he already has, I speak up:

"For how long was I out?" Not much by the state of my status I presume.

"A couple of hours at most." Only that? Is has been slowly lowering down the time needed to evolve at each new evolution which is great but explains why I had not fully recovered yet.

All in all, however, is best to stay for as little as possible in this place.

And this is where it finally comes to me, where is this place? Where had we ended up at? I remember going down, falling, and as much as there is truly a hole in the ceiling where the only natural light enters I did not expect to find some sort of living room down here, all broken and crumbling but still with a usable fireplace on the side.

"You don’t want to take a break?" Ethan asks as I stand and start taking my surroundings in, but one long stare of mine and he shrugs with a smile, continuing: "While you were recovering I had a look around, but since I’m not sure the limits of our... new found connection I did not wander far."

I nod at that, and brushing the dust away I walk towards what once had been the opening of a door, and once my eyes adjust to the difference of light from outside I stop to look, blinking a few times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things in front of me.

"This... what is this, where are we?"

"We are underground, somehow." I could see that, with the ceiling of stones and stalactites right above our heads, but what caught our attention the most it’s the fact that there is an actual city down here, probably copied from yet another dimension by the former Demon Lord as these houses are completely square, with no glass on the windows and barely any doors, made of some kind of sand, thick as stone, and probably coming from a desert place of some sort.

And yet one would expect such a gloomy underground base to be filled with darkness and lacking any life and yet it is the opposite, not only the ceiling is full of glowing diamond shaped crystals swinging freely at the end of many chains except for the central huge one that glows brightly, changing the color from blue to purple and white, but there are too plenty of mushroom plants growing along the walls and are placed along the way like trees, growing as much so and filling the place with their is strange foreign shapes and forms.

I have never seen anything like it, and as much as it looked beautiful and colorful we do not lower our guard down, especially with the peculiar plant life ahead of us, coming from who knows where, its characteristics and behavior unknown, beyond normal if it could withstand such conditions, with a thinner and yet still present fog around, with no light beyond that of the crystals, and no soil beyond the rock hard ground floor of this underground cave to give it all sustenance.

And still we press on.
