Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 161
We go back to the place we were before to finally sleep, but if I could not relax before now with my mind even fuller and my heart still racing the possibility was even thinner, so while Ethan goes to taking care of my wounds I lay down and cross my paws in front of me, attentive to anyone that may be eavesdropping our conversation.
I thought he would question what had happened between father and I, hell, I even thought he would truly give me a piece of mind and talk my ears out, but he had shown so much interest in those gates that he briefly looked at to the point of bringing us back here before saying anything further, looking distant, lost in thought all the way back, which only peeks my interests more for sure.
"Why do you think that?" I ask as he only hints that the gates are his father, the Demon Lord’s, doing.
"I saw that demon at the door, that horned monster, I have seen it before in paintings all over the demon’s castle walls. That monstrosity is the demonic form of my father’s." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
I frown at the newly acquired information. "Why would his demon form appear in a random door in the middle of nowhere?"
"That’s what I am trying to figure it out, but I bet is not a good thing for sure. What did they say about it?"
I say what Camillo told me, trying to make sense of the situation as well, and as I speak I can clearly see Ethan’s face ashen with every word, his brain working the information.
"That is..."
I do not hear what he has to say at that moment as we hear the people from before filling the city to go back to bed, so we stay quiet and move towards our beds, half closing the door and dimming the light.
When people are gone I stop pretending to be asleep and look back towards Ethan, only to see a very serious and dare say scared face half illuminated by the torch from outside, the half hidden in the dark part of his face adding to the direness of the situation, especially when he drags the silent out, the gears moving in his head and coming to a very bad realization it seems.
"I see, so this was his plan all along... Seraph, do you know how many of these gates are?"
I think back at our talk before everything goes down south. "If I remember correctly there are... three? Yes, three that they know of, at least."
"Three? That many already... And all hidden from us, how could they... We will need to talk to their major."
"Sure, we can do that, but tomorrow and after you tell me what the hell is going on that have you all serious about it."
He turns to the side for a moment, covering all his face in the darkness, but then his eyes meet mine and a strange shadow covers them.
"Is that...I have been able to discover why the Demon Lord is so akin to having so many of his children die off in the hands of others like that... the time I spent there with his cold indifference made me more aware of some things, and, well, me and Lewis have our ways at finding about things and the Demon Lord has a quite unique ability, even for the sanguine clan."
"That is, he can control his own blood at will." I still don’t see a connection with the current situation there, but I can tell just how fearsome it can be when he can stop himself from bleeding out, or even for his blood inside other’s body to attack from inside, many nosferatu ways of using this ability already coming to mind.
The possibilities are tremendous.
But still he manages to surprise me.
"What we discovered is that he can control the blood of those related by blood to him as well... to some degree at least."
"He tried to use it against me when I said I would leave, but the thing is... is that, I could still push him back, control myself to some level."
"But I cannot say the same about my dead brothers and sisters, as far as we know they last only a few weeks after death at best, but if the things they are saying is right... fire creatures, bloody undead beasts, searching for heat... plus that door, it all fits, but still, to keep such supply like this... is still unknown to me."
"The small details may still be lost, hidden away from us, but it does not mean things are not the way they are because of it." I say, knowing full well that magic may work the way it works even if you don’t know all the nooks and crannies about the knows and how’s, still the effect is the same in the end.
I get the overall effect of his powers, and start to understand now how, in a despicable way, he uses his own offspring to keep himself in power, ignoring and even supporting the attack of the other demons on any related to his bloodline, and thinking they were ending his lineage to one day take the power they were, on contrary, they are making him even stronger by giving him more mindless minions out of his own children.
It is beyond horrendous, is savage on another level, and yet somehow does not surprise me to find out that the Demon Lord, orchestrator of all the death upon the High Lands, would be capable of such a thing against his own sons and daughters, it seems even fitting somehow.
Still I cannot understand how the gates and the attack up above are connected to him in all of this, feeling that I am close to putting all the jigsaw in place to get the full picture, to connect all the dots.
But Ethan is ahead of me on that one.
"He is safeguarding a way to make his army reach the main continent. He is preparing for war."
The silence that follows is undone by a surprisingly familiar voice, but not as surprising as the news itself.
"Well if that ain’t bad enough as is." Out of the blue we hear a familiar voice from somewhere, of someone who should not be here, dragging the R’s with the accent of another.
"...Natasha?"
"And Leah, please, the demons sister now."
