Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 167
We move at night when the day of the attack finally comes.
We have the surprise at our side, and had a stronger and bigger team than I had anticipated before, thinking only my lonesome would be coming to mother rescue, so if you count all things together they are better than my expectations when the day finally comes, not that it manages to ease my anxiety at all as I could not shake the nervousness away, as much as I had trained and thought to be ready for this task a long time ago, I had not prepared myself for whatever I am going to find up there, if whatever mother is still truly alive at all, if all this is for nothing after all...
No, it is not for nothing, at least these people, the Alar that had been so good to me would have a change to be free, if all comes down to it, it will be worth it nonetheless.
The only bad thing about it all is that we had not been able to identify exactly where mother is being held captive, and I could not get too close to catch her smell without being caught, so freeing them is to learn where she may be as well, having mapped the possible areas beforehand.
It is impossible to keep all of this hidden for long, but still we fly up towards the Prison Island with the cover of the dark, but stealth wasn’t our strongest trait especially when our fur is very white, and the few men that came with from the Major Benedict are much more integrated with their surrounding then us.
Good thing that we weren’t keeping things quiet for long.
The few guards around expected trouble from inside, so while paddling with my snow leopard pads we circle the three most prominent entrances, with me and Ethan taking the far of one where we saw Aaron before.
Then we strike.
Inside it is as if the walls had been carved by hand, uneven and full of irregularities along it, every nook showing the strength and willpower pushed by every slave forced to work their way inside such sturdy rocks.
The only place with light is a room on the side, and with my night vision I can make out the shapes of the Alar on the other side of the cave, sleeping and left where they are forced to work, barely seeing the sun and the skies, vision so sacred to us winged creatures, having mere torturous glimpses the quick moments they took things and crates outside, living like this for years, creatures of the sky living like slithering creatures, and I could not image worst fate as this for one such as us.
By the time the guards realize something is off we are already at them, and as I fish the keys from the table and throw them at the Alars, is when chaos truly erupts, from more guards coming in from who knows where, to the Alars taking at arms and fighting back.
But of course a bunch of malnourish slaves would not be able to take guards and griffins down, but that’s where we come in and help out, using Ice Shield to protect them from any upcoming attacks while helping out when possible with Ice Lance and Wind Whip, mostly supporting upon the chaos since any bigger attack would affect both sides.
In the chaos, however, I do not forget my main objective from being here and search for a familiar face in the crowd, the Alar Aaron from my childhood, in hopes that he can point the way to where my mother is.
Otherwise I might as well storm this entire island to find her, but I am not leaving mother one more day in this nightmare.
And yet things don’t go as planned when I search and search and do not find him, going back to Ethan only to see him nodding as well.
"Maybe he is with another group?"
"Right." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
We quickly exchange words amidst the chaos and open a way to the outside, the discussion before proven right as the so calm Alars wore furious faces and advanced without mercy against their enslavers, probably dreaming of this moment for years, and the fact that there are the weapons forged here too laying around made so that they are able to quickly arm themselves, and their numbers and rage proven to be the strength of the group as they manage to push back part of the soldiers coming in now even without our help.
But help we do, and not long after all the slaves gather on the outside and, to my utmost disgrace, stretch their sore locked wings and start trying to fly away, while others join hands and gather together.
Could not blame them for wanting to escape the first chance given though, after so long locked in I cannot guarantee I would not do the same, to simply fly away and not even look back.
And yet as acceptable as it was in their slave perspective, all I wanted was to grab them by the wings and shake reason into their brains.
Still I take a deep breath and prepare myself to be very patient as I start asking around if anyone had seen mother or Aaron, but most took me for an enemy and more than once it almost ended up in a fight.
The place is a mess, and I should have predicted that it would be impossible to find a single person in such conditions, akin to a battleground in a war with shouts and classing weapons and people running and flying away, a mess of magic and metal and feathers that even my owl eyes had I had time adjusting to.
And yet today, of all days, lady luck seemed to be on my side as I find him in one of the last groups, one freed by the others and, as I land in front of him, see recognition in his eyes.
I can only hope that he knows where she is now.
Otherwise I may just burn all down until I find her, that just how desperate I am.
