Chapter 173: Chapter 173

The final part of the plan is to get mother out safe and sound in the flying ship and come back to support the fleeing slaves while pushing their forces back, the intention has never been to hunt the lion down just yet, my priorities were saving the hostages first and dealing with the after match later even if that meant I may never get to chance to fight him, revenge wasn’t more important than saving lives. πšπ—Ώπ—²πžπ°πšŽπ•“π§πš˜π˜ƒπ—²π₯.πœπš˜π•ž

But seems that a certain Demon Lord and a very stubborn woman had other plans in mind.

As I get out of Lily’s wind attack and am able to take the skies is when I see a creature flying in our direction, I think it is an Alar at first but then I notice that the huge wings are black, and I am unsure for a moment if there are Alars with other wing colors even though as I have seen them with other skin colors but the wings are always white for some reason.

As I start to tense up for the upcoming battle I feel Ethan’s hand brushing the fur on my neck in a calming manner, and as I look up he has a reassuring smile on his face and a strong grip with his other hand.

His fear of heights is still there but he manages to work around it while flying by avoiding looking down completely.

"Don’t worry, is my uncle." I take a long moment to figure out who he is talking about, but actually find out by looking better at the clothes the other is wearing, the most normal looking so far, black and tight and formal, but with silver ends and lines and a huge black fur over the shoulders.

And I only know one guy that is that extravagant.

"My my, look at you, managed to save the lady I supposed?"

"And who might you be?" Asks mother with a hint of uneasiness.

He takes his imaginary hat off and now I realize that not only a pair of black wings had appeared on his back, but his usually white hair has turned black as well, his eyes going from gold to red, all the opposite from Ethan’s transformation.

"My name is Lewis Fraser from the Fallen Demon Clan, I am the Owner of the Auction House The Phoenix Plaza and a friend."

My mother raises an eye, skeptical. "Oh really? We will see about that."

But that only spreads his smile wider. "Oh I’m liking this already, got a feral one this time."

"Do you have anything to say Lewis? You coming all this way wasn’t part of the plan."

Ethan is right, he was supposed to hold back and keep our escape route safe, not put himself in the middle of things and get himself exposed.

So what was he doing here indeed? None of the options that came to mind are good, especially when the ever so present smile on his face drops down at the question.

"We have a dire situation, the portals, the gates... they are acting up."

"Acting up how?"

"The creatures are flowing out in great numbers, I’ve already warned the Major but..."

"But what?"

"I think the Demon Lord is finally launching his attack on the main continent but there is a situation that we did not expect, the gate in the mountain is the most secured so far and the boys, Alexis and Giovanni, went to secure the others, but I figure out now why he wanted control over these high lands as well."

I think I know where this is going, and I’m not liking it one bit.

"Because there is a gate up here too, a fourth one, unprotected, or rather, guarded by his lackeys."

Which meant an easy and free way to get his army to this side, and I even wonder if he needed all the others or if they were just to avert our troops elsewhere while keeping this one strong and open for his devious plans.

Now I regret partially having send the two cultivators to warn the sects bellow, although I at least can hope that the gates underneath are safer than before and have conquered some backup from them.

Worst case scenario we are alone in this... and if so the Guardians won’t be able to hold back the full force of the Demon Lords troops for long.

Most are unprepared for an attack, elves, humans, dwarves, and even if they were they are hardly as united as a zombie walking army with a hive mind, but letting they do as they please and let the Demon Lord have his way is not an option so we are left with little to no choice but to fight back as long as we can.

Giving up is not an option, we would not want to repeat the past where the demons slaughtered the other races with their overwhelming strength, back when they were free to roam this land.

And after being out of the minds of the people for all these years as the main continent people thought they were locked out for good and that they would never have to worry about the demons again, plus raging their own wars, both military and cultural wise, wasting time questioning the ways of a long gone Goodness of Magic, lead to this day were the opportunity was presented, and the current Demon Lord has the power to seize it.

It is almost tempting to let things go, let the consequence of their actions roll down, but if the Demon Lord manages to subdue the main continent it is not just those unprepared mocking ones that will pay, but all of us for the consequences of their lack of actions.

A land of fire will become and I quite like my icy peaks.

So there is only one course of action left, something that I had discussed and planned with Ethan beforehand as we lay our plans forth, but did not think the time to do so would come so early, and that I would not even be able to bring mother to safety myself for the opportunity won’t last long for us.

As we will use the best defense strategy there is... and will attack the source up.
