Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 64
I got into observing other people and creatures quite a lot after that clumsy flying attempt of mine. As the teaching Master said, a very important part of our learning depended on our meditating skills, almost as if a cooker has its abilities limited and cannot make a decent meal without fire, there is only so much we new disciples can do with our current state as we still lack the energy combuster that we absorb via meditation, and even if I have a greater status than my companions and will receive better pellets to help me improve since I’m an inner disciple, I still put double the effort than any around here for I had a very clear objective set in front of me, on contrary to most kids around here that were just fooling around.
However my inner disciple status, my strange veil, and my odd obsessive efforts only increased the envy and loathing of some, but on the same measure it did increase the favoritism of some for such a mysterious being, almost as if looking up to me as inspirational guidance.
Either way it did not matter to me for I would only go back and forth from one type of study to the other, from the morning classes to studying the books as well as meditating. plus the hidden flying classes in the evening.
And one important thing that I learned from all of that is to observe others in detail.
Some secrets are not told to us using words, and the children of my age do not understand very well the untold words, not only from not being taught so, but for the fact that the Cultivating Realm is full of secrets that many rather not share, for those secrets could be what would lead them to immortality, and being a competitive world where the strong eat the weak if you are not careful enough many hide such knowledge so it does not be stolen from them or used against them.
So if one truly wants to ascend there are but a few ways; or you are a genius and create your own style and technique, or you have a great backing with a lot of resources and secret technics, or you... observe, watch, learn, and steal from others, and sometimes not in a polite way either.
So I watched what I could, and learned everything I can grasp, thirstier than a snow owl in a desert for all the knowledge hidden within every corner of this place.
And a few important things that I learned by watching my seniors meditate, or eavesdropping on their conversations with my sharper sense, is that the place that you meditate matters as much as the link to your basic elements, so while the external Qi energy could be categorized in Ying and Yang, the absorbing rate could be categorized with the number of elements one could think of plus more, some being the mix of basic root elements such as wood is the mix of the primary elements water and earth.
Not only the lesser elements you have the better you absorb that energy as it will come purer into your veins and meridians, the more primary elements your base is formed the better for you as they are stronger and more condensed, and even if you have only two elements as your core base, which usually would be considered very good, if they are not the primary type but the mix of such then they will count as the double because of the mixture, being similar to a four rooted elemental more than a pure dual primary cultivator.
That’s why I have a very strong wind element, for not only do I have it as a primary pure element but my ice element is a mix between wind and water too, doubling its effects there, almost as if I have two thirds of wind and one third of water basically.
The problem is, neither make a very effective shield, so I would have to be very creative in that regard uhm... ice and wild... perhaps some sort of hurricane?
No matter, this was still far beyond my reach and I had to focus on the now, so while I would use my hidden place to practice flying, it was cold and windy enough for me to meditate as well, which explains the sense of belonging that I felt the first moment I stepped there.
And yet I’m ashamed to say that it took me a while to discover that I had been training my flying skills wrong, even though I managed to evolve it to level 3 as well as Strong Will to level 11, my clumsy attempts seemed to have reached their limits and I could not pass that threshold no matter how much I flapped my white wings.
That’s when, a little dishearten, I took a step back and started to observe the only creatures I could around to remotely learn how to fly, the birds, and started to understand just how different their own methods were from each species; on how some from the smaller type could just flap their wings in place and move up, some even stopping midair with how fast they managed to flap like the hummingbird, and others, heavier, needed an extra impulse with their legs to go up, and at times needed a little run before having enough synergy too. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
But what all of them had in common is one thing...
They are all birds.
I mean, that obvious and yet it took me a time to realize that I have been trying to lift this humanoid block of a body up as if levitating, and all the resistance and weight were counterbalanced and not suited for flying, and even if I’m sure that in the future I would manage to fly even in this form, the inexperience me at that moment was trying to do it in the worst and harder way possible!
It is like trying to lift a heavy rock by only using the tip of my fingers, which is possible, but much much harder.
So I, after so long in that humanoid form, finally change back to my original one, firstly taking my clothes off and neatly hiding them in the crevice of a tree, and enjoying the cold wind embracing my naked skin for a moment I let the rune shine inside the little bag around my neck, paws stretching while fur and feather grow, and my owl griffin nature takes form and makes me expand my wings wide and enjoy the true stretch that having my true form out to give.
So stressful, having to pretend to be like them all the time, but it will all be worth it in the end, these humans knowledge will grant me the strength to trespass new frontiers, as well as these pair of wings of mine that I’m about to put into use.
And the horizon would not be the limit anymore.
