Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 68
This time around he is gone for a while so I start growing comfortable in my loneliness, taking some time off the book to stretch my back, and that’s when I see the first flock of pure white snow drifting slowly from the sky.
I stretch my hand to catch it, but as an illusion it soon melts away at the palm of my hand, however I’m not disappointed at it for soon many others follow suit, and with a calm weather and wind they are lazy to trail the air, rounding their spiraling curves down slowly.
I stand to watch, my now long slim body of a young teenager wearing barely enough amount of clothes to pass as normal, enjoying the lowering temperature and, standing straight among the slowly pilling white snow I start feeling a little bit at home, my pale skin and hair easily blending in with my surroundings if not for the patterns of blue on my white vests.
And that reminded me of the silent song of the Solstice, the calling of winter in a smooth dance mother taught me to performance, one of the few moments she would take the changing Rune out only for amusement, her long vest flustering in the wind.
"Do you feel it? The pull the world has on our souls, can you dance with it?"
I could not, and yet I remember her steps, her moves, and when I see it my hands and legs are already in motion, palms white as snow making arches in the air, so softly that my moves do not disturb the descend of the snowflakes, but my actually blends in with it, following the call, as she would have said, making them spiral like leaves around me. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
I use the tip of my toes to draw on the snow, taking my shoes off before I even wished for it, no barrier between me and the cold floor, cupping my feet to accommodate the gentle yet precise feeling that fills my mind and moves, and as my long vests give my dance shape and expand like my wings would have, the calls last as long as the first fleeing snow, short yet meaningful, chilling yet comforting, a call from home.
I end the lonely dance on the ground, one leg down and the other crossed at my front like a swan extended neck, gracious and beautiful, and yet the wind chooses that moment to pick up and my veil, having a limit to how much movement it could withstand, flies off my face and into the ground not too far from me.
That’s when I notice, or rather, I’m let known that I was not alone anymore for the only one aware of such hidden place beyond me claps his hands slowly.
"That was beautiful beyond words Seraph, I-I’m left speechless." My name has a different taste coming from his lips, but at least I’m quick enough to avert my gaze before I could see more than a glimpse of him; and him of me; though I could tell that the veil hid many details from the outside world with just a glance at his face.
"Can you pass that to me please?" I say without looking, hiding my face with my hair by turning it to the side and dreading that I’ve shown too much already and that he, being the rascal he is, would cause havoc and play this card against me, but I’m surprised when his hand stretches out beside me and in between his fingers is the fleeting veil.
"Here." He says, giving it back to me, and I soon have it attached back in place, far too used at this point to need more than a second to do so, although it seems I need a better one for future battles, cannot have it moving out of place with a few movements and wind.
It is funny, somehow, how he, Ethan; he has been insisting on telling me his name all the time, almost as if he knew I did not remember it quite as often; never asked me anything about that, about the veil, about the book, about my past, nothing at all, almost as if...as if he knew somehow, or felt enough so as to never have asked.
Odd indeed, coming from such a blabbering rascal.
Instead he would find ways to poke me out of my calmness, I mean, most were inoffensive pranks and plays, like making a red carpet of roses all around my rock which was as difficult to ignore as the smirking responsible for it was sitting on it while being framed by the red petals dancing in the wind, or when he filled the place with puppies and kitties of all kind; still don’t know where he got so many, nor where they went after; and it was impossible to concentrate when they were everywhere selling cuteness, biting my feet as I did not have in me to simply thrown them aside as they puppies pushed my book aside to lay on my lap, but worst of it all was the warm laugh he would always give every time I frowned and growled at one of his tricks, a very real and enthusiastic laugh that was hard not o join in.
There were small things too, like presents and all, but mostly he would have them once he went off and about, telling me he thought that golden robe would look good on me as I would match his golden tiger, or that the tea had a clean fragrance as my own, and so on and on.
I did not accept them of course, at first I thought it would incentive his insistent behavior if I accepted this sort of thing, but I should have known that it would take more than that for him to give up as of now he only simply puts more effort into finding ways for me to accept his gifts, like invading my room and putting the things there when I’m not around, or to sometimes invade dinner table and change my tea to his, only increasing the gossips around me.
I ignored them of course, ignored it all, but some were harder to do than others... like this blabbering rascal of a devil; not so little anymore.
This time around, however, he comes with a simple gift, a different type of veil, white and golden, probably to match the clothes he gave before and to match his too, always wearing red and gold, sometimes black, even when not on his Sect’s robes.
But today he did not intend to stop with gifts only, and when I’m about to turn my face away and try to focus on the words in the book, which is getting harder and harder to do, he speaks up once more:
"Is to match the clothes I gave you, so you can use it tonight!" I ignore him by staring at the pages of the book, but still hear him and he knows it so he insists:
"I got a small break now after this mission so I thought we could go walk in the city, buy some foods, some magical artifacts, and I know you have not been out a lot so you absolutely must take a break with me!" He says with a dimpled smile and a somewhat childish excitement, but the last time he brought me somewhere made me regret trusting him as it had been a big hot spring that he found hidden inside the woods as these mountains are as big and mysterious as the Higher Lands, and not only the fact that I was very uncomfortable with big pools of water since I fell on that river and almost drowned, but to make things worse he was already undressed enough to make me blush and walk away, fuming.
I’ve never followed him anywhere since.
"Come on, I promise you it will be completely fine, and there will be an auction full of rare items! See:" At that he takes a pamphlet out made of thick paper with cursive writing in golden letters and cataloging hand drawn paintings and descriptions of the objects that would be showcased.
At first I get slightly interested for the fact that, yes, we do receive some a good amount of coins and magical stones to improve ourselves, and the inner disciples receive even more, and I had some in me to buy a few interesting things myself, perhaps something could help me improve my skills, so why not browse their catalog?
Ethan Trevil, the little devil, notices that he manages to get my attention once more and seems quite satisfied when my gaze shifts from the book to the catalog, smirking satisfactorily as he sits beside me to show the paper, trying to move closer to me as I put my book on the rock between us, making him only deepen his smirk.
Great cauldrons for refining pills, herbs and rare weapons, silk and even jewelry is there, all enchanted, made from good materials presumably, not the best of the best otherwise we would not even have had access to their list of items, but one in particular catches my eye more than others, a golden cage put on a pedestal as its contents are meticulously drawn.
I read the word bellow:
’Behold this rarest of the rare items! This creature has been hurt, but is still perfect for breeding potions, enhancements, and all source of magic!’
And of course they had magical creatures too, but this one is still even worse than the pets and bonded beasts for it is a fairy, a small, blond petite fairy, and it was been sold to be killed and put on a cauldron of mixtures.
And it did look quite familiar to a fierce fairy that I knew.
That makes me stand on the spot and take the paper out of his hand only to turn around so I could lift my veil and have a proper look at the image.
Long golden hair, small face and big blue eyes framed by a pair of transparent white wings, and I knew for sure, all made sense, after the blast, after her wind magic...
Because that is Lily Goldenbee, and this fierce lady needs my help.
"...Lets go" I surprise him by accepting so easily, and I can tell he was ready to put up a fight to convince me.
"Y-you will?" He blinks a little too quickly.
I don’t repeat myself as, with the paper in hands, I walk out to grab my things, a sense of emergency taking over me.
