Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Talent In An Apocalyptic World-Chapter 73: Bold Declaration
Chapter 73: Bold Declaration
Colonel Silas Hodge was a decorated war veteran, known for surviving three separate supernatural incursions in the Midwest. He is a man who has successfully led both Limitless, Ascendants, and humans into battle on numerous occasions, solidifying his place in history as one of the most brilliant military geniuses of his time.
Even in old age, his gaze of steel had not changed.
The crowd went quiet, and the reporters went mute. For a moment, the chaos had vanished, giving me the chance to make sense of everything around me.
There was an elevated center located at the heart of the square, and a military man in uniform stood there. It seemed like he was giving a speech before the crowd went wild with my appearance. Behind the stage were military tents where I assumed the enlistment took place, while civilians were barricaded to walkways with soldiers lined up and armed to maintain peace and sanity.
It was far more organized than I thought.
Thud!
My wandering eyes returned to the colonel as he took bold steps toward me. I wouldn’t consider myself tall, but he was quite smaller—probably due to age—but the fighting spirit in his eyes was far beyond what I had seen before. It’s a shame such a man was not blessed with a talent by the heavens.
"You are Adam Black?" he asked in a deep tone that would make one believe he was talking to a thirty-year-old hulk of a man.
"The one who saved 3,000 lives in Louisiana?" he added, raising his gray brows.
"Yes," I responded firmly, and a gasp spread across the crowd for a short while before silence returned.
Colonel Silas nodded a few times, his steel gaze fixated on mine. For some reason, I felt a bit of pressure looking directly at this old man whom I could squash effortlessly.
This is aura.
This is presence.
Something I am yet to attain even after centuries of living.
"What brings you here?" Colonel Silas asked. "Have you come to support us and save more lives?"
Snap!
The camera shutter flashes returned—but just very few and controlled. They dared not go wild in the presence of the general. I glanced around a bit, taking in the facial expressions of everyone around. They wore expectant looks, curious to know what my exact response would be.
While it’s true Limitless were treated badly, it’s mostly because they have all failed to understand how the world works. Deceit and manipulation exist for a reason. If there were no need for these two things, the universe would never allow them to exist.
To possess talent is never enough.
To possess a dream, drive, and ambition is never enough.
If a man fails to learn how to bend the world to his will and make them walk his path—either through deceit or manipulation—they are bound to fall to less talented men who possess these traits.
These faces were not my enemies, as Pamela described. They are my possible source of strength. Yes, they don’t perceive we Limitless as humans—and we are greater beings that threaten their existence—but we can also become gods whom they have no choice but to run to and kneel before.
All that is needed is to steer them in the right direction in a subtle way that makes them believe they had always wanted to head in that direction all along.
Yes, the only one capable of doing this is me.
The man destined to unite the realms, wage war against the heavens, and replace God.
"No..." I shook my head and watched the colonel’s eyes dilate with surprise.
"The last time I went to Louisiana, I went there to save lives," I said, raising my voice for all to hear. "This time, I’m heading back there to fight—and reclaim the land we have lost!"
Buzz!
Gasps began spreading through the crowd—but much louder now. The flashes increased twofold, and the chatter of the reporters behind us got louder as well. My words were shifting the world around me—I could feel it!
Colonel Silas broke a rare smile and stepped forward, patting my shoulders like a proud father would to his son.
"I admire your passion, child... The world needs more Limitless like you," he said with a warm smile.
’But,’ I inwardly muttered, predicting his next words.
"But the battlefield is not child’s play. A man with your talent must focus on saving more lives." Colonel Silas stepped back as he spoke. "I will assign you to the support unit. I hope you will make more achievements there."
Saying this, the old man didn’t wait for my response. He turned around and began walking away.
"Above Louisiana’s skyline, we were attacked by orc wranglers! I was dragged out of the helicopter by its beast, so I dragged them into my world, murdered the orc with my bare hands, and forced his beast into submission!" I yelled, and the colonel froze in his steps.
He looked over his shoulder, and I could see the surprise.
"On the ground, I saw a military van transporting civilians to the C.A.T.H. being harassed by an Orc Berserker! I boarded the military van and fought the orc berserker with these hands, bested him in battle, and saved dozens of terrified men, women, and children!" I continued, and the gasps grew louder.
This time, the colonel turned to meet my gaze, completely overwhelmed by my words—and even the crowd began to clap and cheer in the background.
"To save the 3,000 civilians I brought back, I fought off the orc horde with these hands and secured the lives of thousands!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "IF THERE IS A LIMITLESS IN THIS CAMP QUALIFIED TO FIGHT AT THE FRONTLINES, YOU WILL FIND NO BETTER CANDIDATE THAN MYSELF!"
Buzz!
Throwing my hands apart, white and black fumes poured out of my body, rising above the skies.
"WHY? YOU MAY ASK?" I grinned viciously. "BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY DUAL-TALENTED LIMITLESS IN TEXAS. THE STRONGEST LIMITLESS OF MY GENERATION!"
