Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Talent In An Apocalyptic World-Chapter 94: Betrayal? Nope!
Chapter 94: Betrayal? Nope!
Buzz!
A black spatial gate tore open in the hospital room, and the doors swung open. Jake and I stepped out, only to be bombarded by camera flashes that forced us to look away.
’Foolish humans.’
As the survivor of a very nasty incident that took the life of a veteran Limitless like Deacon, they weren’t even considerate of my condition. Everyone just wanted to write the next big story, while the hospital was more interested in the clout they would gain from it.
No one cared about the life of an 18-year—no, 19-year-old boy—who had faced a traumatic experience. Yes, I said 19 because my birthday was on the 1st of October and the war started September 17th. Battling for my life made me miss my first birthday in this body.
"Enough," I said, using my hand to shield my face from the blinding light.
However, it seemed my words fell on deaf ears.
"Big brother, I will—" Jake tried to shield me with his body, but I grabbed his hand and pulled him away.
Darkness converged in my eyes, turning them pitch black as dark fumes began pouring out of my body.
"ENOUGH!" I roared at the top of my lungs, swiping my hand in their direction and unleashing a dark shockwave.
All I could hear were shocked screams, followed by the sounds of people falling over. Soon after, the flashes vanished. The shockwave was mild, so it only pushed the front row back, forcing those behind to grab onto them and causing a lot of cameras to fall.
The only person who truly fell was the doctor who had come in with a few nurses when I regained consciousness.
What was funny was the look of shock and resentment in their eyes. They acted as if I had just done something horrible—and I found this laughable.
"I understand you’re all animals who don’t care about the mental health of a 19-year-old who was at death’s door for six fucking months," I sneered disdainfully. "All you care about is getting the next big thing on camera, but unfortunately, I won’t be your plaything."
Saying this, I took the leather trench coat Jake held and flung it over my shoulder. I was dressed in a black sleeveless turtleneck shirt, complimented by black trousers, boots, and gloves.
This dressing style reminded me of my first encounter with the night creatures—the look that won the hearts of many. It made me feel invincible.
Without saying another word, I began walking forward. Terrified by my earlier action, many reporters stepped aside, while a few others remained in place, snapping as many pictures as they could. I simply shoved them aside with broad shoulders, walking past while Jake followed closely.
However, as soon as I stepped out of the room, I saw Pamela with Natasha and... Dayvon?
Instinctively, my eyes fell on Dayvon’s hand holding Natasha’s like lovers. I raised my gaze to meet hers, but she avoided eye contact and lowered her face.
"You just regained consciousness. You shouldn’t be walking," Pamela said, but her eyes were apologetic.
Was she apologizing for bringing these two along on the day of my recovery?
Was this meant to mean something to me?
"As you can see, I’m in good condition," I shrugged.
Without bothering to say anything else, I walked past her, but Pamela grabbed my hand and looked up at my face.
"I’m sorry you had to see this on the day of your recovery," Pamela sighed heavily.
I guess my suspicions were on point.
Dayvon scoffed from a distance before pulling Natasha closer and putting his hand around her neck. I slowly tilted my head in confusion.
"Why would I be annoyed if someone picked up something I rejected numerous times?"
Buzz!
Dayvon’s smile vanished, while Natasha’s face snapped up to meet my gaze. Her face was a mixture of shock and pain, while Pamela’s gaze carried both shock and anger.
Natasha was basically her student, so I understood why she would react this way to my comment.
Even so, Pamela still felt fragile under my firm grip, and I effortlessly broke away from her. Without saying another word, I walked past the lovebirds without sparing them a glance.
Walking down the hallway, we stopped in front of the elevator, and before I could press the button, the bell rang and the door slid open—revealing two familiar faces I hadn’t seen in a while.
It was Agent Johnson and Agent Ray, the people who brought me to the academy.
"Adam?!" they both blurted out in shock.
How could I blame them? I was a completely different person from the kid they once considered weak.
"Let’s go," I told Jake and stepped into the elevator with the agents still inside.
Jake hurriedly entered, and I clicked the ground floor button. I waited for the doors to slide closed before looking over my shoulder.
"I can’t rest here. The reporters are relentless," I said. "Let’s go somewhere else."
The two agents quickly exchanged confused glances.
"There are reporters up here?" Agent Ray blurted out. "Then what’s the crowd downstairs being held up by our security team?"
Buzz!
I turned around in shock, wondering what was going on. Then I remembered the excited face of the doctor when I returned to the room. He looked like someone who had just won the lottery.
Did he sneak them in for money? Or something else?
Suddenly, knocking him over felt like a light punishment. I wanted to bash his face in.
"I’ll deal with that later..." I pushed the thought aside and returned my attention back to the duo, whose eyes were now on Jake.
They were probably wondering what he was doing here. Based on their reaction, it was safe to say—
"He’s my right-hand man," I said, and they made the "ooh" face while Jake’s expression lit up like a light bulb.
"Now tell me—why are you here?"
Ray and Johnson exchanged glances and let out a heavy sigh.
"I know it’s a bit inconsiderate, coming to you just after you’ve regained consciousness after six months," Ray said while scratching his head.
Meanwhile, Johnson reached into his blazer and pulled out a blue-bound document.
"But it’s a race against time. You’re famous, and the Texas government would like to formally invite you into its fold as one of its exclusive Limitless before anyone else does. Especially Titanfield Agency!" Johnson basically exhaled those words in one breath, leaving me stunned.
