Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 336 - 334: Should He Not Have Invited Xue Yang?
The sports event came to a perfect close amidst an atmosphere of tension and excitement.
After receiving the trophy, Xue Yang made a point of inviting Yi Chuan to join him on stage for a photo. Xue Yang’s hand rested on Yi Chuan’s shoulder, and the two of them flashed a peace sign at the camera, looking incredibly harmonious.
"This kid really embodies the true spirit of sports. Not only did he beat his opponent, but he also earned their respect. Yanbei University truly is a renowned institution in Dragon Country; the talent they nurture is on another level."
Listening to Director Lu’s praise, Hu Guoyou couldn’t have been prouder. To think that such an outstanding person was nurtured by our school! How amazing!
Yi Chuan’s expression darkened. He suddenly felt that inviting Xue Yang to their school for a friendly match had been a mistake.
A burst of enthusiastic screaming erupted from the stands.
"Xue Yang!"
"Xue Yang!"
The girls had all skipped shopping for a chance to see Xue Yang receive his trophy. Since all the girls were there, the boys skipped their video games as well, and everyone flocked to the stands. The scene rivaled, if not surpassed, the opening ceremony. But then they realized they were only there to serve as his backdrop and might as well not have come.
"This Xue Yang has a girlfriend, but he still dresses so flamboyantly. Does he think this is a beauty pageant?"
"Exactly."
Despite what they said, everyone was quite envious at heart. Who wouldn’t want to be the center of attention, surrounded by adoring fans like him?
The principal was smiling so widely he could hardly close his mouth. Director Lu was also very pleased, seeing the excellent production quality being broadcast to the television audience.
With that, the sports event concluded successfully. Director Lu and Hu Guoyou agreed to interview Xue Yang the following Monday, after which the broadcast team packed up and left.
Some were joyful, while others were worried.
...
「It was finally Saturday.」
Cui Hao was dragged out of his dormitory early in the morning by Wei Shuyu.
Two hours later, looking at himself in the mirror, Cui Hao thought he was dreaming. He leaned close to the full-length mirror, examining himself carefully. Unable to resist, he pinched himself. It hurt. Only then did he believe that what he saw was real.
"Shuyu, this..."
Wei Shuyu crossed her arms, looking satisfied with her handiwork. "Well? This look is great, isn’t it?"
"Wow, not bad at all. After your makeover, I almost can’t recognize myself."
Today, Wei Shuyu had abandoned her previously exaggerated designs. She had dressed him in a simple white shirt and black casual pants, restyled his hair, and applied a light layer of foundation. The result made him look both bright and handsome.
"Of course. Who do you think I am? I’m the most talented person in our class."
"Then why did you mess with me like that before? I was worried you were going to make me wear those other clothes to the meetup today."
"I just wanted to see if clothes designed unconventionally could actually be worn. I don’t mess around when it’s for real."
"Heh heh, thanks a lot. If my date goes well today, I’ll treat you to a meal some other day."
"Go on, don’t worry. It’ll definitely be a success."
"Thanks, I hope you’re right."
Cui Hao hopped on his bike and waved to Wei Shuyu.
"Cui Hao, you’re going on a date and you’re not driving?"
Cui Hao scratched his head. "I don’t have my driver’s license yet."
...
「At 9:00 AM sharp, Cui Hao arrived at the foot of Xiangshan Mountain.」
Xiangshan is a historic mountain located in the western suburbs of Yancheng. It is roughly ten kilometers from Yanbei University, so it wasn’t too far of a bike ride. Looking at the lush greenery at the foot of the mountain, which wound around it like a green ribbon, Cui Hao’s nervous heart seemed to calm.
After parking his bike in the designated area, Cui Hao went to the spot where he had agreed to meet Bai Yueguang. He waited for about ten minutes before someone suddenly patted him on the back.
Cui Hao jumped, startled. He spun around and saw a rather plain-looking girl in a tracksuit with a crossbody bag smiling at him. "Are you Cui Hao?"
Looking at the newcomer, Cui Hao asked uncertainly, "You... you’re Bai Yueguang?"
In person, Bai Yueguang was nothing like her name suggested. The photo she had shown him before was clearly edited. Fortunately, he could at least tell it was the same person.
Cui Hao had also used someone else’s photo, so now, face to face, it was clear that neither of them had been truthful. And judging by her appearance, she seemed to be no spring chicken; she was definitely a fair bit older than him. There’s a huge difference between a mature woman and a young girl.
The girl extended her hand. "Hello, I’m Bai Yueguang. My name is Ming Yue." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Um... since I’m not exactly a beauty myself, I suggested we exchange photos first," she explained. "I just never expected you to send me a picture like that. I was stunned."
"But you quickly asked to meet."
"I was just wondering if I could really be that lucky—meeting such a handsome guy my first time playing a game. I wanted to see if you were real."
Cui Hao scratched his head. "Sorry to disappoint you."
"Not at all. You look great just as you are."
Cui Hao glanced at Ming Yue. "You..."
"Oh, right, I’ve already started working. You’re still in university, aren’t you?"
Cui Hao felt somewhat downcast. "I’m a freshman."
"I see."
For a moment, Cui Hao wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or disappointed. But he knew one thing for certain: his first attempt at online dating was officially a failure.
"If you’re free, could you take me to meet that very good-looking friend of yours?" Ming Yue asked.
"Ah? Oh, sure."
"You mean, take me to see him now?"
"So, are we still going to hike?" he asked.
"No. I just wasn’t sure what would be a good place to suggest we meet."
Ming Yue had actually been thinking the same thing as Cui Hao: if they met and were close in age, she would see if anything could develop between them. But now, it was obvious that wasn’t going to happen, so there was no need to go hiking.
Cui Hao was already terribly nervous, so he thought it would be even better if Xue Yang could come along. "I’ll call and see if he’s free," he said.
"Great, thank you."
"You’re... welcome."
Cui Hao couldn’t tell anymore if this was his meetup or Xue Yang’s.
It was Saturday, so Xue Yang didn’t go to the studio in the morning. He rested at home, planning to head over in the afternoon. Around eleven o’clock, his phone rang. It was Cui Hao. Xue Yang paused for a moment before answering the call.
"Aren’t you on a date? How come you have time to call me?"
Cui Hao cleared his throat. "Well, I was worried you might be lonely this Saturday, so I was calling to see if you wanted some company for lunch."
Xue Yang raised an eyebrow. "Us? It seems you’ve met Bai Yueguang in person. Is she there with you?"
