Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Moving to a Place Far from Your Classmate

Just as Lin Xi was feeling anxious, she heard the sound of a key turning in the lock. Even though she couldn’t see anyone, she knew it was Xue Yang coming back.

She hurriedly opened the door. Seeing Xue Yang standing there alone, she rose to her tiptoes and threw herself into his embrace.

Xue Yang had just inserted the key into the lock when the door swung open from the inside. Before he could even react, a small figure had flung herself into his arms.

Xue Yang instinctively held her tight. "Lin Xi, what’s wrong?"

He could feel that she was scared, but he didn’t know why.

Although it was cold out, the sky hadn’t completely darkened yet. Xue Yang had timed his return, so in theory, Lin Xi shouldn’t have been frightened.

"Xue Yang, let’s find a new apartment and move," Lin Xi said, her voice muffled against his chest.

Seeing her so terrified, Xue Yang’s heart ached.

"Lin Xi, what exactly happened?"

"Your classmate came by earlier. He was looking for you."

"What classmate? When I’m not here, you shouldn’t open the door for strangers."

"He said his name was Cui Hao, but I didn’t let him in. I have a feeling he’ll come back, though. Xue Yang, can we please move? Let’s go somewhere your classmates can’t find us."

Cui Hao? He knew that guy wouldn’t be fooled so easily. And sure enough, he’d come looking the moment his guard was down.

Fortunately, he had been delayed on his way home; otherwise, he definitely would have run into him. But Lin Xi’s reaction was much stronger than he had anticipated.

"Lin Xi, you don’t want to meet my classmates? Cui Hao is a very close friend of mine," Xue Yang said gently.

"It’s just not the right time. Xue Yang, please? Let’s move to a bigger house where no one will disturb us," Lin Xi pleaded.

She started to cry. It had been a long time since she’d last cried. Since getting together with Xue Yang, aside from the time she’d cried out of fear in the dark, she hadn’t shed another tear.

She was terrified that Xue Yang’s classmates would recognize her and then tell her family. If that happened, she would never be able to be with Xue Yang again. The longer she spent with him, the less she wanted to leave. She knew this was wrong, but she just couldn’t bear to leave so soon.

Lin Xi had been studying diligently, determined to prove herself through her actions.

Xue Yang had recently earned some money from his photo-editing work. Combined with the 5,000 from the lottery win that they had barely touched, moving to a new place wasn’t out of the question.

"Okay," he agreed.

"Xue Yang, thank you."

"I’ll start looking for a new place right now."

Xue Yang acted quickly. Not long after he started searching the rental listings, he found a suitable apartment. Though it was a little farther from University Town—about ten kilometers away, meaning Xue Yang would now have to take the bus to his classes—it was a definite upgrade. The new place had two bedrooms and a living room, plus a private balcony where Lin Xi could hang her laundry. With two rooms, they could each have their own space and would no longer have to squeeze into one.

Taking advantage of the remaining daylight, they packed up their things. Xue Yang didn’t have much, so it was mostly Lin Xi’s belongings that filled the small truck they called. They could come back to the old apartment to handle the move-out formalities whenever they had time.

No sooner had Xue Yang and Lin Xi left than Cui Hao returned, unwilling to give up.

I can’t be wrong. This is the place Xue Yang rented. I even had to go to the trouble of going all the way back to campus to find the rental info he posted back then. The girl I saw earlier must be the treasure Xue Yang has been hiding. No wonder he’s hiding her. She’s so beautiful... if it were me, I’d hide her away too. This time, I have to see her with my own eyes.

Arriving at Xue Yang’s old apartment again, Cui Hao straightened his clothes, cleared his throat, and raised his hand to knock.

KNOCK, KNOCK...

He waited for a long time, but the door remained shut.

"Strange, why isn’t anyone answering?" he wondered aloud.

Just as Cui Hao was about to knock again, the landlord happened to come by. "Are you here to see someone or to rent an apartment?"

"I’m here to see someone."

"That’s unfortunate. The young man who rented this room has already moved out."

Moved out? Cui Hao froze, a wave of awkwardness washing over him. Don’t tell me it was because of me...

"Thank you," he mumbled, then beat a hasty retreat.

Meanwhile, Xue Yang and Lin Xi had arrived at their new home.

Their previous apartment was only about 30 square meters, but this new one was a full seventy. The master bedroom was quite large and came with its own bathroom, a big computer desk, a sizable wardrobe, and a small balcony perfect for sunbathing or watching the snow. It was very convenient.

The second bedroom, while not large, wasn’t small either. It held a 150-centimeter bed, a small wardrobe, and a desk for Lin Xi to study at. It was just right.

However, the two of them immediately began to bicker over who would get the master bedroom.

"This master bedroom is perfect for me."

"Who said it’s for you? I’m the one who rented this place, so of course, the master bedroom is mine."

"I’m a girl; you should let me have it."

"My legs are too long. The bed in the second bedroom won’t even be long enough for me."

"..."

Lin Xi couldn’t refute that, because he was telling the truth.

"The bed in the master bedroom is comfortable. Since we both want it, why don’t we just share? It’s not like we haven’t slept in the same room before."

"Fine, we’ll share! It’s not like I’m scared!"

And so, even though they had rented a two-bedroom apartment, they still ended up squeezing into one bedroom together.

Xue Yang also brought over the water heater Lin Xi had previously bought. He went to install it first, while Lin Xi took care of organizing their clothes and other belongings. As the saying goes, when a man and a woman work together, the labor feels light. With their work divided, they had finished most of the unpacking in no time.

Xue Yang glanced at the time; it was already past midnight.

The windows in the new apartment were better than those at their old place. Once they were closed, the sound of the wind outside was almost inaudible. The balcony was large, and they could sit in the living room and enjoy the view.

"Xue Yang, this apartment must be quite expensive, right?"

"It is a bit, but don’t you worry about it. I’ll take care of it."

Lin Xi smiled sweetly. With Xue Yang around, no problem seemed too big. He was like a treasure, shielding her from the wind and rain.

She had once fantasized that one day, her future boyfriend would arrive to pick her up, riding a glorious Rainbow Cloud. Now she realized that even an ordinary person could radiate a rainbow glow.

"What’s this package?"

Xue Yang’s gaze landed on a large, unopened cardboard box on the floor. He didn’t remember buying anything big recently.

Lin Xi said, "Oh, that’s the clothing from Tide Fashion. I haven’t had a chance to open it yet. Let’s do it now."

She was also curious to see how the clothes from Tide Fashion would look on Xue Yang.

Xue Yang went to get a pair of scissors and cut the box open. Lin Xi pulled out the clothes from inside.

There were a full four sets.

"Why are there so many? I remember I only ordered two sets."
