Relentless Pursuit After Divorce-Chapter 1964: Summer Hall Side Story (166)
Thomas Smith blushed red from Evelyn Taylor’s rebuke, yet her words left him frozen in place, thoroughly shaken.
He had always trusted Olivia unconditionally, to the extent that when Olivia asked him for a disabling drug for protection, he didn’t question her motives at all.
In his eyes, Olivia might not be very smart, but she is incredibly kind-hearted. How could he ever suspect she’d harm someone?
But his mother’s words were a rude awakening, leaving him speechless.
Indeed, Olivia had bodyguards around her; who could possibly harm her?
And if even the bodyguards couldn’t handle someone, what use would one pill be from him?
The more Thomas contemplated, the more confused he became. He refused to believe Olivia was such a person, how could Olivia possibly use him?
Charles Smith and Edward Smith remained relatively calm, but their usual warmth in their gaze toward Thomas was gone.
"Thomas, you seem to still trust Olivia more, don’t you?"
Charles Smith’s tone was much calmer than Evelyn Taylor’s, yet there was an unmistakable disappointment that Thomas could not ignore.
He had always lived in a very harmonious family from childhood.
His parents were loving, their family was wealthy, and though his brother was not gentle, he bore the burden of the entire Smith family, allowing him to pursue whatever he liked without worry.
He also had an adorably innocent sister, making him feel his life was complete. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
But ever since Helen Melendy, the real sister, was found, the atmosphere in their family changed, as did his relationships with his parents and brother.
This invisible change pierced his heart, especially the looks of disappointment from his parents and brother, which stung his eyes.
Such disappointment caused him fear, made him anxious.
He knew what kind of person he was, beyond hiding away in the lab researching drugs, he was incapable of anything, not even the most basic social skills.
If not for being the Smith family’s second Young Master, Edward Smith’s younger brother, his life couldn’t be lived quite as freely as now.
But all of this changed due to Helen Melendy’s appearance.
He felt no connection to this sister Helen Melendy; never sharing a single day together makes saying they have a natural blood bond utterly absurd.
He couldn’t understand why his parents and brother could pour so much emotion into someone unknown, yet dismiss someone who lived with them for thirty years so readily.
He didn’t blame his parents, but he greatly resented the woman who disrupted the peace in their family.
"Since that’s the case, you should leave."
Charles Smith waved him off in disappointment, saying, "I heard you bought Olivia a house; since you seem to favor this so-called sister so much, go be with her."
"Dad..."
Thomas still wanted to say something, but Charles Smith no longer spared him a glance, instead gently soothing the outraged and tearful Evelyn Taylor while helping her upstairs.
"Thomas, do you still harbor other thoughts about Olivia?"
Just as Charles Smith and Evelyn Taylor were about to head upstairs, Edward Smith suddenly tossed out this question, changing the expression on all three of their faces.
The three of them were no fools; they understood exactly what Edward Smith’s question implied.
Thomas merely reddened even further without making a sound, while Charles Smith and Evelyn Taylor’s expressions turned even more severe than before.
