Chapter 1986: Chapter 1986: Summer Hall Side Story (188)

Olivia Smith rolled her eyes directly at her phone, "John Taylor, do you have any shame? What does buying a house for your wife have to do with me? I’m not your mom."

On the other end of the line, John Taylor heard Olivia’s words and snickered dismissively, saying:

"You’re part of the Taylor Family. I’m the only male in the family, so it’s up to me to carry on the family name. You, being a useless girl, were born to support me. If you can’t even fulfill this role, what use was it for Mom to give birth to you?"

John Taylor said this self-righteously, not feeling ashamed of his words at all.

Olivia, however, heard his undisguised belittlement and was so furious that she trembled all over.

How could she have such an original family?

If she had to live in such a family for thirty years, she would definitely go crazy.

"If you have a mental problem, go get it treated. Even if your family had a throne, it still has nothing to do with me."

Saying that, she hung up the phone.

Unexpectedly, just as she hung up, John Taylor called back.

Feeling annoyed, Olivia picked up her phone and directly turned it off.

"That stupid bitch, she’s revolting."

John Taylor, furious, threw his phone forcefully to the ground, shattering it to pieces.

Next to him stood a timid middle-aged woman, who was clearly shocked upon seeing his anger.

She seemed very afraid of John Taylor and only cautiously approached him after he calmed down a bit, asking in a low voice:

"What’s wrong, what did your sister say?"

"That dumb bitch said my marriage has nothing to do with her and then hung up the phone."

Upon hearing this, the middle-aged woman also exploded, "Did that useless girl really say that? That ungrateful wretch, I risked my life back then to switch her with a rich family’s daughter, letting her live thirty years of a rich life, and now she doesn’t remember my kindness, won’t properly support her brother. What’s the point of raising her, an ungrateful wretch? Might as well raise a dog, at least you can cook and eat it."

The middle-aged woman cursed angrily, stomping her feet in frustration.

After venting their anger at Olivia, both John Taylor and the middle-aged woman sat on the sofa. John lit a cigarette and kicked an empty can by his feet before speaking:

"So what do we do now? Mei’s dad said they don’t want any dowry, but there must be a house in the market. Where would our family get the money to buy a house in Boston?"

Saying this, his face showed some irritation.

The middle-aged woman, hearing the exhaustion and helplessness in her son’s voice, felt heartbroken.

In her heart, she couldn’t help but hold some resentment towards the other side.

"You know, Mei’s family is really difficult. They don’t even consider how old their daughter is—26 years old. Back in our hometown, she’d already be raising kids. She’s even a year older than you, she’s lucky someone wants to marry her, yet they’re making so many demands."

As she spoke, her mouth twisted with disdain, her face full of contempt.

John Taylor lifted his eyes to glance at her, possibly agreeing with his mom’s point of view since he didn’t speak up to refute.

A moment later, he said, "Talking about this now is useless. Mei’s dad said if there’s no house, there’s no marriage. There are plenty of young guys in their company pursuing Mei. Even if she doesn’t marry me, there are others who would. He didn’t give me a lot of time; I must buy a house soon."

"I refuse to believe she’s so in demand at her age."

The woman’s face still showed unabashed disdain.

John Taylor, though sharing a similar mindset as Mrs. Taylor, still had some self-awareness in this regard.
